GREAT guide! I just got one of these for my 5 year old for Christmas. I ended up using the DIG program so he can look at system and game box pictures instead of all that reading. DIG is pretty good and my son LOVES his Pocket 2. I appreciate the tips and tricks!

Also dude, just some friendly advice, but you should wait at least 1-2 seconds after giving an instruction and before moving on, I find that I hardly have enough time to pause the video before you are already onto a new instruction. Just a tip, and please know I appreciate all of *your* tips.

Hmmm at 4:37 There is no Android folder on my SD card. Also I can't enter into my SD card folders by hooking up the device with my PC. I only have access to my SD card via a USB card reader. Thank you Edit: yes my usb mode is set to file transfer. I can only access the internal memory of the device. I seem to be missing a few more folders on my SD if I compare them to the ones in the video. They all seem to be android related folders (DCIM, Arlarm, Notifications, movies, download, ringtones)

I know it's a bit late but have your tried typing out the file path at the top (in red bar top of screen) and see if that will take you their may be a case of random hidden files etc.

Can you also explain to me the advantage of having the sd formatted as internal? I have never used an android device so this is all pretty foreign to me, but it seems like I would be able to transfer files more quickly via inserting the SD into my computer than via the USB/internal

Was able to get my card to format as internal, but when I connected it to a USB and set the USB mode to file transfer I only ever saw the internal memory, never saw the SD card or a way to access it.

If you run the reinstall.sh script that can reset a lot of the app settings which might help. I fudged up some cores in retroarch and it solved the issue for me so maybe worth a shot before reflashing the entire device.

I changed the two lines in the retroarch.cfg file exactly as shown in this video and overwrote the old file. Now Retroarch crashes immediately upon being told to run. Any idea what went wrong here?

I got my Pocket 2+ today, and started to set it up. My retroarch is a different style..but it is better that way. It is the standard android format I am used to on my phone and tablet. But for some reason on the right side of the screen, there is a white bar that stays. It only appears in retroarch that I have seen. When I am out of retroarch, it isn't there. And it stays during games. I thought it was an issue with my device...but I saw a pic online of someone else that had it too in a post just talking about what they got. Does anyone else have a white bar, and know how to remove it?

thank you this is great. very specific Halflife question. I was able to get all of my controls mapped to gamepad except one. Going to menu screen. Theres no setting for it under the mapping settings. I have to switch to virtual mode first and tap "B." not the end of the world but is this something i can fix?

I don't think so. Just map pause to Start, then yeah, you have to use virtual mode and B to get to the menu.

Wherever you want. The games folder that comes preinstalled is exclusively for the encrypted roms the unit shops with, for use with RetroidOS.

Every time I try to copy the valve folder and send it to my retroid it just says device has been disconnected or turned off but it's on plain as day. All I want is to play half life on the go :(

Make sure you're using a USB 2.0 port. The RP2 is not compatible with USB 3.0.

Make sure you're not playing while charging, firstly. More intensive titles will heat up the RP2 faster.

ok, so i formatted the sd card to use as internal and now it won't recognize an sd card at all. I used a 128gb card to do this with and saved the 32gb card it came with as a backup. I tried putting the old card in and it still won't read the card. How do I make it so it no longer looks at the sd card as internal storage?

Read a lot of the comments and a lot of people including me are having the same issue with the formatting. Im going to try and put the backup data on another sd card and try to see if it works without formatting. From what I read formatting isn’t necessary to get this stuff to run but we’ll see. Ill keep you updated

Need some help here, bud. I’d downloaded some extra PS1 cores, and somehow switched from psxarmed, which works best, to one called PS1beetle, or something like that. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to get back to psxrearmed. I’ve tried “load core”, but it won’t change. The games load in this core, but none of the buttons work. And yes, I’ve made sure the button were set to ps3 and so on, but it won’t save it no matter what, and still won’t work. Can you give me a detailed description of how to get back to psxrearmed?

If you have the files backed up, grab another sd card and moves the files on there and dont format this card. This happened to me and this helped.

@@Cyberphile I formated my new sd card as internal and then afterwards I removed the card so all the data that usually is stored on the internal memory was lost even when put the card back. However good news I managed to get everything back and retroarch working as I updated to android 8.1 everything seems fine apart from the standalone flycast app which cannot recognise the analogue stick but other buttons work fine. Do have any idea where I can sort this out and thank you for getting back

Good Video, but the amount of steps necessary are rediculus. All work and no play. Retroarch 1.8.4… seriously? And another one for GBA? Even if one subtracted the steps for the usual Android setup, this thing is an epic fail software-wise. If they don't make a RP3 with a touch screen, this mapping-mess won't have a future.

I agree with you. I think the best option in the meantime is to use individual emulators for each system, and then setting up a separate front end. Tbh, I've had enough trouble with retroarch on pc and more current Android phones. Unfortunately that might mean purchasing premium emulators on top of the device...

This system is total crap. I can't explain enough how much I hate it. I ordered this and Super Console X on the same day. I've had the Super Console X for about a month, and it still amazes me. I finally just got the RP2 today, and it's taking everything I have to not sell it on ebay. I figured this would be as simple as just adding roms to a folder and playing them, but no. It's basically just a dummy android device that you have to configure on your own, and it's full of bugs.

This is a video for beginners? What a joke. Speed talking, 30 things to do in 5 seconds what a joke. This would not be a video for anyone that is actually a beginner. I am 52 have never used a computer for more than the internet and playing video games. I am a beginner literally and this video sucks! I have had my retroid 2 plus since May and haven't been able to use it because videos like this are not as good as you think they are. This video should have been like 4 times as long. Speak slower and give one thing to do at a time with a pause here while doing it til you give the next thing to do. Example you said to get some rom from the play station store for DS games. How the hell do you get on PS store? How awesome it would be if someone actually made a video from package to running a game. The video would most likely be a 4 hour video

I said what I said because it's true this video is not for beginners. It's not about pausing 400 times which if it was on a computer and I could click a mouse and the video wouldn't disappear that would be one thing but when on a phone that would get annoying real quick. I am 52 disabled and have never used a phone for anything other than calling people and sometimes texting. And I have owned a computer but only browsed the Internet and stuck disks in to play video games. I don't even know how to get on to the PlayStation store or Google store where you said to buy some rom or emulator for 4.99 for DS games. If you truly actually wanted to help REAL beginners you would make a better video. I from constant pain have nothing to do all day and I can only play my PS4 RPGs so many times that's why I bought this to have access to numerous choices. Maybe for people that grew up with a phone in their hands the things you say are common knowledge but for me it's like you are speaking a foreign language. Do you by chance live near lake Havasu city Arizona? I would pay you a hundred dollars to set this thing up for me. Oh well you will probably continue to think that your video is good enough for a real beginner but it isn't. Take care

I'd say you should figure out how applications and programs work in general beforehand, seeing as how you couldn't find the app store on an android OS
