I've had my Clear Retroid 4 Pro and I'm blown away on how much I like it. I love the form factor. It plays everything I throw at it with ease. Prince of Persia for switch is amazing an plays flawlessly. Again I love how small but not to small the device is and I've got large hands. I get zero hand fatigue. Perfect size! I noticed you mentioned ram at 8 gigs. I was looking around and it says on average I use about 6 so I think ram is ok? I will have to check out your setup. I use an Iphone and Apple products but it wasn't hard to setup at all. I enjoy tinkering too and after a week I got everything working and now I just load games and play and love it. The price point was perfect for me too. I wouldn't worry about specs, this thing is great and when playing games you never ever think man i wish this display was better etc. I just play and enjoy. its 10/10 for me. Get the carry case and screen protector too.

I just got into the retro handheld emulator scene when the RG35XX SP came out and I’ve fallen into the rabbit hole. Saw the Odin 2 mini come out which was extremely tempting but a point’s been made that it’s the same price as a steamdeck so might as well get that (I’m not in the market for that) Bought this Retroid pocket 4 pro yesterday after watching A LOT of videos, but if I hadn’t already been convinced, THIS video would have made me get one for sure. You pretty much said everything I wanted to hear to get me to buy this, so thanks!

Did you consider the Anbernic RG556? Has oled 1080p and someone put it next to this and wow, it even looked better than the Steam Deck oled side-by-side...colors were richer somehow... My RP4P is coming but hopefully I made the right decision.
@OJAYSAN3 ай бұрын
If you agree with my points I think you'll be happy with the pocket. Personally, the 556 sits in a weird spot. A bit underpowered and is set up for 3d games. That's why I like the pocket because it's dpad focused. And the Odin 2 blazes thru 3d games
@lilluckypit2 ай бұрын
@@WreckerALeX you did. the Rg556 has a good screen, that it. Its not portable and the RP4P has more power. I almost got the 556 but I got the 4. the analogs on the 556 are not the best.
@WreckerALeX2 ай бұрын
@@lilluckypit I play a lot of joystick games and I hate that its so low...grip is a must but still the grip is pretty small... I wear medium gloves and I wished the grip was a bit bigger. Also the case is useless since it doesn't fit the grip so I never use it. RP4P has the d-pad at the top so this controller setup is more for retro games...I wouldn't recommend this device if you want to game with the joysticks.

Im debating between this clear color or the white 16bit. Were there times you rather had a different color? The clear looks amazing. I would get the white one just to match the smaller gray Anbernics I own but I keep coming back to this one.
@OJAYSAN3 ай бұрын
Actually, the crystal and the 16bit models were the ones I was going back and forth on. The only other translucent model I own before this was an atomic purple miyoo mini. So I ended doing the crystal bc of that and it’s a pretty unique look. I have an Odin 2 coming in the 16bit color so I like to have variety vs similar or matching colors.

JUST bought this handheld. I prefer D-pad games (smaller form factor and battery seems nice too) which was the biggest pro for this one and this came in at about $100 cheaper, in my currency and the dollar is high atm, than the Odin 2 Pro WITH extra bits and bobs (bag and grips) and a lot cheaper than the Ayaneo mini S (also no customs now). WOULD want to try Switch-indie stuff but besides that just lower end stuff for most systems GC and back. Thinking this'll be good (please affirm my newly made purchase😛)? Edit: this easier to use than Linux-based really? I'm upgrading from a 351P, that I'm still happy with, so that's NICE to hear. Took me a while to get to grips with the 351P (Portmaster specifically). Was looking a bit at the Steam Deck besides this but heard D-pad wasn't ideal so went with this.

Switch does work fairly well for low intensity games, there's a community list of tested games you can review. Yes android is much better in general from battery to general usage. I find the steam decks dpad to be good. I can't say I play games that require precision out of it though.
@dud3243 ай бұрын
gonna get one solely as a balatro machine because idk cant really get into it on my normal steam deck but the smaller form factor of the pocket pro 4 would be perfect for baltaro sessions on my bed or couch.

I'm really hesitating because it is Android. Android is so famous for eating up a big chunk of RAM just to run the Android system.
@OJAYSAN3 ай бұрын
Why do you think that is an issue?
@ShamShahar-wv7iv3 ай бұрын
@@OJAYSAN I don't know, since it only 8 GB of ram, maybe it will affect the game performance in the long run? is it not the same as the phone version of Android?

@@ShamShahar-wv7ivit’s definitely not lacking power perfect for nearly every ps2 and GameCube games ever, and that will never change.
@OJAYSAN3 ай бұрын
Tbh I never noticed an issue with low ram except for the fruit emulators. But keep in mind those were in active development still. You can also lock the app into memory so you are less likely to have issues. In addition, when something runs out of memory they’re allowed to use the swapfile which is part of the internal memory. Sure it may slowdown but it takes a lot to get to that point since you’re running only a few apps at a time
@KyleRuggles3 ай бұрын
@@OJAYSAN Agreed! Great review btw. I got the RP3+ myself, it only has 4gb, it's fine. Same with my Odin base. The only time it's an issue is if I'm running ES-DE with a high memory usage theme, it'll restart at times after if I play ps2 and Game Cube. Not good for switch, but 8gb of ram is more than enough for most emulators and with the last recent Y*zu images, most switch titles run perfectly fine.

Odin 2 vs Retroiod Pocket 4 pro, what do you recommend?

Get RP4Pro for DPad focused games. Odin2 for 2 Analog Sticks focused games or games that use left side analog stick more often. Really depends on your need. I had both. Sold my Odin 2 because I only really play old arcade games.
