@@HalfMonty11It has a lot of drawbacks for double the cost. The size for starters makes it a lot less portable. The battery life is also worse. Plenty of consoles to play on a half price console thats more portable and lasts longer.

@@HalfMonty11I agree that I find the price point a bit deceiving compared to a steam deck (which I have one and my little brothers play with it just fine, you obv can't play on the metro standing, but sit and it will be perfect still). So I'm a bit confused on this market still, but I will have to inform myself better, because I do miss some old games.

"How does anyone use one of these devices?" After a lot of hw and a lot of thanks to youtube I am now "ok" at it and just got s rp4 pro for my early birthday present. The ability to run a lot of roms, the way it runs android games, and with my love of the cloud, loving this thing way more than I thought. I love games and hate the word favorite, but this will be my most used device for sure. It is just TOO convenient for my crazy life, crazy kids, and sometimes crazy work hours. I am blown away at what this thing does compared to my s 23 ultra. Dno if it's the fan, or just the bloatware of flagships, but the rp4 cruises. It even makes my tidal sound better with my iems lol! Just watch them all. They all have something to add and and have different perspectives to their reviews, and are not always in agreement. Some have a methodology, or do a deep dive, others have something happening to their unit that doesn't happen to others. Personally i like to watch Taki Udon, Retro Game Corps, TechDweeb, The Phawx, and ETA Prime. At least two or three of them, to get a clear picture, other times, all of them, if i am in doubt about a certain piece of hardware.

IMO Taki and Phawx are the better technical spec deep divers, RGC is the better "crack a cold one open and enjoy the chill vibe" type of content.

@00Resev I I watched all of those and more but I like Taki's take on things. His criticism can be hard for fan boys to swallow but that's what reviews are for. It's even more important when it comes to items shipping overseas because returns can be bad for both sellers and buyers when there are mismatch expectations.

Thank you Taki for this deep dive on the Pocket 4 Pro. If it were any deeper people would confuse it with the Mariana Trench. It's obvious that a ton of work went into making this video. Unfortunately for me, I watched and commented under the First Look video a few days after it was published. I assume most of this video was already recorded by then because not a single one of my amazing game recommendations made the cut. Maybe I just have terrible taste in games? Ha. Anyways, the one I cared about most was/is "WRC: Rally Evolved" for the PS2. It was Sony and Evolution Studios' rally game swansong and by all accounts they went out on top. My current Snapdragon 845 powered LG phone, the best gaming anything I own at the moment, can't run it well at all. If the Pocket 4 Pro could run it full speed at 1X resolution that would help sell this system to me. Does anyone know how well it'll run here? A semi off topic question: My understanding is that all versions of the Pocket 3 and 4 series use third party iPhone 8/SE2/SE3 screens. Would a factory first party Apple screen be a plug-in-play upgrade for the Pockets 3 and 4? I'm asking because it's not that hard to find older mainline iPhones and newer SEs for sale dirt cheap that have good screens, but are otherwise inoperative. Or is this one of those things where even if it works it quite literally won't make a difference?

This video has me considering this device... That being said, I'd like to see what wii-U titles it could handle. I know ps3 is out of the question.

Android doesn't have a WiiU emulator. Theoretically you could run CEMU, the PC WiiU emulator, on Android using one of the Windows emulators we have but the performance will probably be terrible, if it even worked. If WiiU, PS3, or any generation of Xbox is important to you then you'll want to skip Android handhelds entirely. X86 based UMPC units like the Ally or that new Legion are going to be what you'll need.

Would you recommend this or the Odin 2, especially for someone who is new to emulation? I have a Pocket Flip, but had a very hard time setting it up and getting games on it to work, for the most part and because of this I took a break from it. I am not ready to give up on emulation devices, though and would appreciate something much more powerful; PlayStation 2 games are my main goal.

Quick question Taki - hoping to hear back from you for some help on this one - can we use the same exact instructions for setup on the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro as you provided for the Retroid Pocket 2 + ? That was a REALLY great guide and it worked PERFECT for me on the 2 +. I just ordered thie 4 Pro and I am really hoping that I can use that same guide to get it going. Are you able to confirm if that guide is still valid for this device?

Hey Taki, appreciate your work, would you consider giving space to exclusive games or games that aren't playable in some other handhelds without emulation? I mean you can play FFXII and on a Switch and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on the Vita, so I feel that's coverage that would be more useful to other PS2 games.

IMHO, you did not need to qualify your comments on the green screen issue so much. There was clearly a problem with the display and its calibration both, and you were right to call it out. Even if the company has been made aware of the issue, downplaying it and promoting a fix before it’s been made available to test is absolutely the wrong move, even if there’s a high degree of trust between a reviewer and the manufacturer. It was legitimately surprising to see, and I am glad you didn’t go this route.

I mainly wanted to have something to point back to in the future to explain how I approach these kinds of things and where I think my obligations are to the viewer and to the company. I've never described this process before, so I think it will be valuable to have going forward. I agree with your other points.

I will say, regarding Hollow Knight, I always felt like there was something “off” about how the game felt on the switch. So I also bought it on PC, and it felt way better there! Dunno if it’s just perceived or actual input lag, but I just had a better time on the PC version. :)

Thanks Taki. Great dive in to the games. I'm still on the fence between this and the odin 2. I didn't really want to spend $299 on an odin. Plus the base model is hard to get. So this may just be the one to get. I've got a miyoo mini plus at present. The only issue is the screen size... Did you find it impacted much on the gameplay?
@Allyouknow5820
@Allyouknow5820 8 ай бұрын
Just a stranger giving advice but: if you're interested in this, get the base model and spend half of what you intended on the Odin2 ! If you're really looking for a real improvement to PS2 emulation, try to get a Odin 1 Pro (it's 199 on their official website so you know it's legit). It's a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, so you'll have better support in emulation in general. I have an Odin Lite, and given the small difference with the Retroid 4 Pro, very happy that I did in 2022 ! If I didn't have it, would go for the 4 base definitely.

@@Allyouknow5820 thank you. Advice is always welcome. I think the rp4 base would be too underpowered for me. I'd rather spend $50 more and get the pro. My max budget is £250 as I'm uk based. So I guess that's around $300 ish?
