Please have Shem on here as often as possible; I greatly appreciated the fact that he’s the first person to respond to the chip choice, and overall package, the same as most of us that have been following these emulation handhelds. I can’t believe it’s a year later and the performance delta is minimal given the extra cost and abundance of great, cheap Snapdragon chips.

I bought both the RP5 and RPmini early bird I know that in the past they’ve had issues with early adaptations but I think with the materials this is the one for retroid to get it right the first time . Super excited!

The 8gb and android 13 feels like a PR scheme. The chip is already able to do A13.

Not exactly, they needed to reach out to Qualcomm to get updated kernels or something. The cellphones which have that chip had to develop A13 updates themselves.

I love the look of the rp5, the specs are ok but I’m not buying another handheld until I know for sure there won’t be input lag issues. For me, the Odin 2 was unplayable - I just sold my pro last week, I’m sticking with my ayaneo air plus for now.

I ordered the black RP5 because of the uncanny OLED Vita design cues. When Vita emulation reaches peak, maybe I will be able to retire my poor old console. I am really excited tbh. The console looks super clean with an amazing screen (we haven't seen it, but come on 5.5" 1080p, it's gonna be great). The power is for me more than enough. I have a Oneplus 7 Pro with 855 and with stock drivers and everything I can play everything incl. some random light 3D Switch titles.

You only get import fees on Retroid if you're daft enough to pick DHL over 4px. Plus they take a lot longer to get to the UK with DHL.

Rob and/or Shem: Would one of y'all consider making a video on how to port Lineage to an Android device? Even if it's a bad port, I couldn't find any video documentation on how to do such, and I figure it could be a fun project for people to try if they had a little extra guidance.

Yo for dreamcast games I gotta say NFL 2ks were amazing before Madden shut them down, the first person view was way ahead of it's time. Plus 2 player it was so clutch in football games picking your play on the controller so the person next to you doesn't see what play you select on screen. Better days

I just got an excellent condition Odin2 Base used on Fb for $200. Is there any point in getting the RP5 or Mini?... I haven't fully delved into the Odin2 yet, but I am stoked on the form factor.

Idk, im on the fence between the mini and the RG Cube still. I feel like i'll be playing 3ds a lot and that will just look better on the Cube i think. IDK.

I really want a mini but I won't be ordering because of the concerns you all mentioned. Potential first batch jank and software issues. I know the mini is the smaller, cheaper device but why keep it at 6gb ram and android 10 when they're changing it for the 5? I may honestly be fine with the ram for my uses but it just seems weird to me. not only that but I can't decide on a color until I start seeing the unit in some people's hands, haha. I'll gladly skip the $10 discount and pay full price once I know for sure what I'm getting myself into

Doesn't the S20 FE have android 13? It runs a SD865. But I am wondering should I cancel my preorder for the RP5 (I don't have any android handhelds) because I have a GPD Win 4+Switch+3DS.

I'm sorry but I'm going to see if Retroid packs more power into the RP6 in 6 months or so, just because a chip has Snapdragon in the name does not mean it's going to perform significantly better than the RP4 Pro. Much like how Galaxy A35 < Galaxy S24, SD 865 is way < SD 8 Gen2 or G3X. it was the chip in the Galaxy S20...back in 2020, when people took selfies wearing masks. Real world emu performance is not enough to make a difference. Oh yeah I forgot OLED. Some people would buy a $300 Atari Lynx if it had OLED. I'll wait there'll be a RP7 before Switch Dos releases.

i’m with Shem, a small screen on a powerful device is just stupid. what joy is there playing ps2/ngc on a screen you need to squint at. 4:3 is cool and all, but ONLY for 16bit games. which a billion other consoles can handle already. wanting the mini for that aspect ratio alone is just mega overkill and wasteful for that price. i genuinely don’t get it.

You forgot that 4:3 is not only 16bit but ps2 and gc was original 4:3 so for that powerful device with that small screen is like a dream

Hard to see the point in the RP5 (and even less so the Mini). Weak for the price, especially when you can whack a $50USD G8 on an old phone. And then there's the handheld PC aftermarket. Just done an '8 Handheld PCs cheaper and stronger than the Steam Deck' watchalong. Plentiful 6800u and/or ROG Ally options for under $300USD!

Even the Razer Edge is getting very close to it in price, due too recent price drops. And that has a larger 6.8 inch 144Hz AMOLED screen, with a faster Snapdragon G3x Gen1 SoC inside.

Oh the pimax retro (365) chip was one of the best ps1 retro device ive ever had but one of the worst in every other shape or form if the software is trash it gets worst......Linux has never been official on any of the devices period why retroid? Asking for this for years now and of all these companies retroid? Lol i call BS i cant wait......😅
