A tip for future, when you apply frenzy and smackback, and attack an enemy with frenzy and smackback, it will be a loop until one of the units die. So be careful, I had lost a run because of it.😅

@@TT55_STS525 frenzy does interact with smackback in that every single attack from frenzy will get smackback and that smackback will make them attack for every frenzy, but once they are both there on both things hitting each other they just hit once over and over. The fun part is that the whole time they are interrupting each other's frenzy so if they both have enough health whichever one wins can probably kill everything else on the board lol. Thing is it only really happens with the cat boss and maybe the new guardian. The cat boss however has the thorns enemy which makes frenzy way worse if you haven't already killed them and it's pretty hard to win a back and forth like that. I did just have a run where the guardian had smackback, frenzy and 0 damage and my frenzy smackback unit used the built up attacks to attack like 15 times after the first enemy was dead

@@mojojojo6535 3 3 3 with no effects is still not “decent” that’s still just a worse base for upgrading then a 2 cooldown one one. That’s a snoof without the snow and lategame if snoof is in not upgraded that will just be useful as an application of effects. 90 turns to deal with lategame enemies is not an acceptable amount of time. 3 health will also be a liability just as often as 1 hp is so it’s not really an upgrade there either. A 3 3 3 is primarily useful when doing things like stacking status effects or being buffed by other sources like bom ( or if it’s applying the bom itself in multi strike even better) and a 1 1 that has 2 cooldown is just better then it especially if you can find the charm to lower the unit’s cooldown by 1 from there on top of whatever status effects you give them. A naked gnome can permanently snow a opponent for example if it’s cooldown is reduced by 1 and given the snow charm.

I think one way of thinking about the cards themselves is this: The turn timer means that you have decide between things that help you along the fight or cards that just solve the "right now". Buffs that stick around are the former and snowing enemies in tend to slow things down rather temporarily. Also, snowing someone in doesnt care if you do it at the last moment or right at the get go. You dont have to wait till the problem arrives to stop the problem.

Although that is true, most of the time it is more beneficial to not snow until you need to, and instead play units and use buffs, like you said. But because of reinforcements, and synced up counters, there are certainly situations where snowing earlier makes a lot of sense.

While you probably already know this, but challengewise anything with Status Conditions not named Bom or Overburn you should run Snowdwellers. Their main mechanic is status conditions and outside of spells are the only ones with access to Spice, Shell, and Shroom.

one criticism i’m willing to share is that i think that the redraw counter upgrade is optimally better than draw plus 1 at the first upgrade because over time you get more cards and get more options to get yourself out of a bind consistently, especially with a small deck.

With sneezle, noomlin yank item and noomlin biscuit on sun stone you can infinite sneezle. You attack sneezle with yank, give him sun stone so he does damage, yank again and voila you have infite card draw and damage! Bonus if you can get demonize or some more attack on sneezle. Also the berry mistbox is required since you then heal sneezle every time you hit him.

After seeing the dev post about them working on addressing the difficulty curve, I kinda wish they don’t make it easier. I really like the level it’s at personally. If they just added the resolve eye, I feel that’d be enough to make it easy for the whiners

When I saw the dev post my hope for it was it getting easier but them adding more of the hard bells with maybe one unlocked right away, easy mode bells sound like a great idea though and I think would be a fun way of customizing the difficulty to better suit a broader amount of people

One of my favourite roguelites, synthetik legion rising, has a really modular difficulty system where you can tweak a lot of different values aka a percentage for general difficulty and rewards, a series of modifiers tied to said percentage which add something to make the game harder but also something to make it easier, an in game value determining enemy spawns and difficulty which you can raise or lower in the middle of the run, and three separate "ascension modifiers" which you unlock after beating the game at a certain percentage. It's one of the best difficulty systems i've seen and i really think more games could implement something similar, including wildfrost. The three ascension bells are definitely a good start and i like that unlike in slay the spire you can mix and match them instead of having to use all of them if you only want the last one, though it wouldn't hurt to add more of them here. On top of those, you'd need some smaller modifiers which are all unlocked from the start so people can mix and match them to play the game enough to get good at it and later be able to beat it normally (with one of those being "easy mode" which simply tweaks various values to make combats easier). Afterwards i feel like the game really needs a more branching map. Have some optional map branches which include harder fights with good rewards, or on the flipside some optional events which give you a good reward but make the next fights harder. This game is amazing, i think it genuinely has a good shot at being the next slay the spire in terms of being "the roguelite deckbuilder", but it lacks all of the various features of slay the spire which massively increase its replayability. Oh and another thing, i think there should be an option in snowdwell to activate or deactivate the various things you unlocked, so that if you're trying to go for a certain build you aren't going to dilute your pool of possible choices with stuff you don't want (or at least an option to rate up and rate down some stuff).

I can only imagine this with Noomlin'd Slapcrackers. If you have Kernel in front of Sneezle you suddenly have four coin tosses to either make Sneezle tougher or draw another card; likely another Shellbo or Slapcrackers. _That_ could give you an infinite turn. Just buff the ever loving shit out of both of them and suddenly you can't die.

Kernal would be the sticking point here, since you need a card to buff his hp. A much easier way is just to have the healing station (restores 1hp to a unit when it takes damage) in the other row.

Make the leader something one chooses rather than it being random. That way players can focus on mastering a certain starting deck and/or builds rather than having to do something different every time.

I think gaming community is just getting too soft. There definitely should be some hard games, and it is not something to write a bad review about... Because it is not unfairly hard, Retro here shows in every video that it is possible to beat this game consistently, when the person playing is using their brain.

Big change would be ascension mode so it starts easier, but that would take a lot of rework to implement properly. Maybe some simpler way would be for game to start you with a couple of crowns and then remove them as time goes on (Also show hint that you can remove crowns whenever you like from cards) and enemies having less hp /attack. I find current difficulty fun hard so I would love for it to stay this way instead of permanently changing, but there is some QoL stuff that would help. 1. make us able to skip cards and gain 5-10 gold instead 2. Add visual around attack symbol for smackback. With charm bell it's easy to not realize some enemy has smackback and die. 3. make us able to choose faction and then show 3 random heroes But yeah, those won't really make game easier so for that ascension system is probably best. Edit: One easy thing that would probably make difficulty much less is when dropping charm make us choose between 2 charms

I think a viable way would be to set a “base mode” introducing more elements to customize your deck (like multiple choice charms and such) and more loot opportunities. I would also lower some of the health pools. I would then scale the game further with ascension modes that closely resemble what the game is currently or make it harder. I feel many of the complaints on the Steam reviews where also oriented toward not being in control of your deck-building, and I can see a point there (however, I also know why the devs chose this) I enjoy the game as it currently is and can’t put it down, it’s a masterpiece. However, I don’t think it was a smart idea to set up a single mode with a standard difficulty, because you risk cutting a huge player base. The purists will think “ok that’s how art is”, and I agree, but it’s just not smart marketing-wise or even if you just want to have many people playing your game. TLDR: set up an easier base game with more deck building freedom and smaller health-pools and implement an ascension mode that replicates and scales the current game

I'd say less a specific deck, and more a specific run. A run where you can hit a crown at every single shop I'd imagine it is fairly legit.

I'd add that snowdwellers probably want it more than shademancers or clunkmasters. For shademancers it's next to useless since shades count as cards rather than companions and therefore it's not likely that you'll need an extra regular companion. Clunkmasters focus more on clunkers who likewise don't count against the limit, so you wouldn't really have enough space to deploy the hero, the four companions and a few clunkers. Snowdwellers also use clunkers a decent bit of course, so i'd still say the other two bells are more useful, but if you have a specific engine going (like having a snow hero, snoof, yuki, snoffel, wallop and the bear shaped snow mimik for the ultimate snow build) then it could be useful.
