Finally! Out of all the videos and retropie tutorials done by everyone else THIS is the only one that actually uses the raspberry pi to do everything on it. I never understood why all those other videos say you have to go through a PC to burn images and download ROMs and then transfer them to your pi via SD/USB/network... they're basically turning a 1 step process into 4 and I always questioned "can't you do it all straight from the pi?" without a single reply....anyhow, thanks for showing this simplest and convenient method.👍

I use Samsung BAR 300MB/s a little cheaper than the Sandisk Extreme for the same or less money. Even at store prices. The only downside is the quirky shape limits how many you can plug into a Pi. You can't fit one above the other.

i use retropie on twisteros with an ssd. was hoping for a supreme ultra build soon but who knows. the official build has been on 4.7.1 for a while. i wonder, if and what, any future updates will hold

I suggest getting a clone ps3 controller. They have a driver for it in retropi. IMO it's a lot easier to use because a is not b and b is not a... etc. It's too confusing for me using the xbox controller with the nintendo button scheme.

hi thanks for all the help but I have 1 issue. during bootup of retropie, I see 2 lines that are red which gives an error regarding "[e-mail]". how to fix this? also, when I try playing any mame roms (I placed it in the arcade folder as instructed), i get an error and it ask me which emu do i want to use. I select mame2003 and it works. but there's no AUDIO. no sound. I selected HDMI under raspi-config and also in the retropie settings as well. should I place all my mame rom in diff parent emu folder instead?

So confused.. So we don't need to unzip the ROMs when adding them to the USB stick or do we? You left them zipped in the video (at least at the point where I'm currently paused in the video) but I've read a few guides online and they say to unzip them (except for MAME) before transferring them. Does it work both ways?

Disregard.. Later into the video he mentions the section of the wiki where it tells you which file extensions are supported, so it looks like the answer depends on whether or not the wiki says it's supported to leave them in .zip/.7z or whatever.

I cannot connect mine. I tried everything I could find on the net......Why it is so difficult is beyond me. I bought the controller just for my Pi and am pretty frustrated that it will not connect. It pairs, but does not connect.

@@TheKillogicEffect Did you install the sixaxis driver? I paired 3 of mine with no issues. I installed the sixaxis driver, then went to bluetooth(while the controller was plugged in) and I was prompted to remove the usb cable and the process was complete. Let me know if I can help you out.

Does this work with retropie 4.8? When I try to install dolphin emulator in retropie setup dolphin is marked as red and it says " dolphin is not available for your system (rpi4) , package flags fall 64 bit".

This works with twister os, got it up and running with sd card in usb caddy, still can't get the pre build image to boot up using 1tb hdd in USB to sata caddy, il try later with changing the 2 boot files (probably all 14) as thats what the error im getting is, il let u know how i get on, thanks for the info on other post too👍 much appreciated

I downloaded a 500gb img pre built image and chose to write to a 2tb USB 3 flash drive... I get a message saying software out of date .. updated this got rid of message but can't boot from it still even after setting boot from USB... do I have to update the boot loader? I tried arcade punks vertical build. I want to make a vertical cabinet with old school stuff, pac man, galaga etc, but I could not get it to boot. black screen on the pi 4 every time. wondering if there is another step, the site is not the clearest.

It’s a prebuilt image. The problem is possibly your boot media or cable.

iam having the retroflag rpi4 case , booting retropie from sd card and having my roms on a 128gb ssd. my ssd is almost full of games and gaming images, during the boot system stays on loading system config state for 10+ minutes and then boot to retropie ui. can you help me to find the problem?

Sometimes the problem is with some boxart or videos slowing it down. If you find the offending file it may sort the delay

@@leepspvideo I need to convert the file I downloaded from nkit.iso to .iso. This is for nintendo wii. The nkit.iso file shows up as blank and won't start. To convert it to iso I downloaded Nkit from vimm but it won't start. I suppose it has to be converted to iso to run in wii?

c64 - go to the retropie config and install vice. Amiga needs kickstart ROMs - Google or download a pre-built retropie image to get a copy. arcadepunks

F: etropie-mount oms is how my usb stick is laid out for where roms are I put gb files in gb folder but no roms are being recognized, I have a pi 4 4gb model, I also put a lot of other roms on the USB stick and the stick is formatted as fat32 is 64gb USB 3.0 in both of the 3.0 ports on the pi 4 I tried.

Depends on the usb or ssd. All of the systems Retropie supports would have had slower data access back in the day. I don’t think it matters for running games.

a 4gb would be the safest bet just incase you ever decide to run android on it or if you want to just have an overall better time with using web browsers

If you only want to run Retropie, save yourself some money and go with the 2gb version. The 4gb will work as a desktop but isn't needed for Retropie.

Buy the game and dump the files to your PC that's the only legal way to do so otherwise you'd be pirating which is illegal

@@2Am1r yup as long as you aren't trying to distribute the files to others you can make copies using your PC as long as it has a proper disc reader (I just read they use a dvd-9 format) and if you have a pc with good enough specs you should be able to play them on xenia
