If you're looking for another fun OS to try on your Pi, TwisterOS is pretty cool. It gives you a Windows or Mac look and feel and a few other pre-installed apps. that will make using your Pi more fun. I would install it to a separate microSD for playing around with it (don't erase what you've already got working). If interested, you can check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWPJZWqQmNioe8k

I have the 4gb kit with a clear see through acrylic case. One issue i have with the unit is that the cooling intake holes are so small. They are in the shape of a raspberry and block more than half the fan making the fan almost useless. It was advised to take a dremel and cut out a circle the size of the actual fan. I am going to do this. Other than that this is one cool piece of kit.

Aww man, I feel ripped off. Mine didn't come with a 64 GB micro SD card nor a USB card reader. That's pretty cool you got those. I just got my Raspberry Pi 4 recently and have been too busy at work to install it but this video will be very helpful when I do so, because the video link CanaKit provided on the included card was just taking the Raspberry Pi out and placing it in the case and that was it. No video about the heatsinks or fan which I know are important. I'm not a total noob though. I took out my Raspberry Pi 3 the other day I had stored away for a couple years and it booted up just fine into EmulationStation. Played a couple retro games and remembered to bring up the menu to shut down safely. The fact this comes with a power on and off switch blows my mind.

🥳Just received my Ras. Pi4 today! I opted for the 8GB RAM, 128GB Memory Version. Absolutely Thrilled! I have been reading and reviewing this for a few months. Finally have one! I watched the video first, now my next move is to get an ESD Setup for Installation. Some that are familiar may think it is obvious, but NOOBS (newbs) may think it is okay to handle/install the PCB without ESD precautions. What do you think? And Thanks for the Review @WTT
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome, congrats on your first Pi! Thank you for watching. Some will say (and have told me) ESD precautions are not necessary, I personally feel it's a good idea. I once worked in contract electronics manufacturing and it was mandatory to use ground straps and ESD smocks when handling any PCB. Using a ground strap ensures you never have a problem with your Pi. Also, the packaging in the box warns you about taking precautions, so clearly it's still a potential issue. Static electricity can do some serious damage to a chip. That said, I have handled Pi's by holding the fiberglass edges and honestly never had an issue. But, I prefer to side on caution, especially when others are watching me 😎 Anyways, got quite a bit more Pi 4 info. on my website if interested: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4 and if you plan on Pi 4 retro gaming this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming

I don't often overclock, but when I do I don't go above 2Ghz usually. Doing so will void the warranty, though I've never had any issues as a result but again I don't do it unless I need to squeeze a little better performance. TwisterOS has a nice tool built in called Commander Pi which makes it super easy to overclock also.

@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 3 жыл бұрын
I was recently watching NetFlix at 1080p using a new OS that I'm recording for the Pi 4 (video later this week). It played smoothly, but using a 4GB Pi 4. An 8GB Pi isn't going to run any faster or slower than a 4GB. What may help is overclocking your existing 4GB Pi to 2Ghz. I'd recommend checking out my Twister OS video, it includes a utility called Commander Pi. Overclock to the Recommended settings, try it on your Pi 4 4GB and see if that helps. You may want to use a different microSD (if you have an extra unused one) and check it out.
@sandeepnagendra7088

@@WagnersTechTalk That is very interesting. Now that you mentioned that Netflix worked fine, I am thinking could it be the youtube encoding which may be pushing the pi not to get the frames right. I will give Netflix a try and look into overclocking if that fails. Thanks !! And yes, I was skeptical that moving to a 8gb would help, but was not sure as the raspbian is 32 bit (so max 4 gig) plus my memory utilization was low when that was happening.
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Pi foundation hasn't optimized the OS for video playback, from what I understand. It will work, but with some dropped frames. Just want to make sure you know going to an 8GB Pi isn't going to speed things up, just allow you to run more stuff concurrently. Hope that helps!

@@eagleeyeviewimages Thank you, happy you're enjoying the channel! Typically, yes you would leave the microSD card in the Pi4 all the time. There are more advanced (and faster) ways to use the Pi 4 including using an SSD drive, but the microSD is typically sufficient. You can also use a separate microSD to install Kali, shutdown the Pi, swap microSD's and then you'll be running another OS. One that I really like is TwisterOS, I've got an older video on that if you're interested ( here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWPJZWqQmNioe8k ). They've made a lot of enhancements since this video and I'll be covering it in the not so distant future. However, there are a number of distributions that will work just fine on your Pi 4, nothing keeping you from trying them all :)

It is a great kit, and I was very happy with my 4gb max kit. However, by the time you pay for the max kit, a keyboard, mouse and monitor (if you don't have them lying about) you are beginning to approach the cost of a low end chromebook. I sure would not upgrade from my 4gb model until USB boot and Raspberry Pi Os 64 bit is out of beta.

@@WagnersTechTalk I don't see the point in making Raspberry Pi Os look like Windows (shudder) or Mac OS (Oh the pain), lol. They do include the spoofed version of Chromium for streaming though. I am impressed with the 64bit version of Ubuntu 64bit with the XFCE desktop. It works well. And if you can break away from the Debian fold, Manjaro also works well. I have tried Ubuntu MATE as well on the Pi and it is impressive. I think for Windows/Mac users just coming into the the Pi world, Twister is an interesting option from a usability standpoint. Even the WiFi configuration is nicely done, printing is a breeze too, overclocking is easily done, RetroPie pre-installed, lots of "interesting" reasons to take a look at Twister outside of just the familiar UI. At least, IMO.

Not fully correct. A single application instance/process (i.e. chromium tab, instance of LibreOffice Writer, etc.) can each allocate up to 3GB of RAM. Much of the CPU impact had to do with the fact that I was constantly adding more tabs/apps during the test. CPU was of course impacted by this constant launching/memory allocation. I gave the CPU no time to rest. Pi OS 64-bit may handle this better, but since it is in beta I didn't want to demonstrate beta software only the official released version, unless it's done in a separate video (which I likely will). No single process can address more than 3GB of RAM (on PiOS 32-Bit), however multiple processes (when instantiated) can consume the 8GB of RAM available on a Pi 4 with an 8GB Pi. You can read more about that here, if interested: www.raspberrypi.com/news/8gb-raspberry-pi-4-on-sale-now-at-75/ In terms of the color scheme chosen, you may find TwisterOS more to your liking : twisteros.com/download.html There are dark/light themes available which allow the Pi to look like Windows or Mac. Not sure about the mouse cursor, that may still be an issue but there may be some accessibility add-ons to make it easier (I've used some for touch screens on the Pi 4, but not mouse cursors-specifically). Hopefully some of this is helpful, thank you for watching! If I come across any Mouse Cursor extensions I'll reply back here. Just FYI- TwisterOS is essentially PiOS with an improved front-end and a number of pre-installed applications and games. I prefer it over the base PiOS install myself.
