The Not-D-Pad reminds me of the 3DS circle pad. I wonder if the circle pad was inspired by this...

That... D-Pad thing is probably the worst thing I've ever seen and I've used the 3DS circle pad. Which I see another comment mentioned. A shame as I agree with you that the controller looks (and probably feels given its shape and structure) REALLY good.

Im not a fan of these classic NES controllers. Id love to try out this Max controller. Im still thinking about 3D printing of a new controller shell when I get my 3D printer. I recently had a problem with Sega Master System controller, as it was very dirty inside, and I followed your usual steps. I didnt had isopropyl avaiable at hand, so I just used after shave, and it actually did its job, but left some of the scent for some time.

RetroRepairs for now many people likes the most the Xbox style controller, but those are a bit bigger, so Id have to make a bigger PCB. My all time fav controller is a Saturn one, so I'd most probably go for something like this

If you're handy with a soldering iron, I think you could easily cut the PCB into 3 sections - D pad, AB, then the IC and Start Select, then wire back the traces to the proper part. Possibly even lift the IC and wire it to a project board or something. You'd just need to drill another hole in each PCB part so it will hold still in your new printed case. Would be a cool project for sure. Reminds me of the 'modern N64 controller' project retrofighters.com/

Sounds like a plan then. But since I still dont have a 3D printer, it would be another position on "to do" list. Thanks for the tips, Ill be sure to write everything down, and of course Ill let you know if I eventually make it !

Hum. I've been thinking about making a bartop arcade, retropie etc. Would be sorta cool to add a NES arcade pad as a controller. :)

Jari Heiska I've had a very similar thought. I was thinking of using an actual NES with a multicart. If you're handy you could probably even use to advantages and bypass the player selector switch to have a two player cabinet

I suppose it is possible, but i just do it as a hobby. It would help to be in a large enough city where you could get lots of stuff to fix for cheap, and lots of people to buy your stuff

Same here with me, I binge watched a bunch of these repair videos over the summer and it is getting me interested in doing this as some sort of hobby as well. I not as skilled at it and don't have much of a setup such as having a multimeter or soldering iron at hand to troubleshoot but I get by with a couple of things that just need replacements. All in all, keep up the good work, I find it entertaining and helpful 👍

Did all NES Max controllers have that wobble on the D-Pad? That D-Pad looks weird to use, but I'm sure it plays fine.

Yep. And once you get used to not lifting up your thumb it's reasonably intuitive. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea but I loved it.

Though it can be used for any game I don't think that was its true intent. Some games like rc pro am or ice hockey its unbeatable

Those were the two games I used it most with. And Blades of Steel, of course.

The NES Max was my favorite controller. I loved them so much I had a pair of them and almost never brought out the regular ones.

Not in this case. None of these are analog, its a 4 way pad with a joystick on it.
