Yeah, I’m not buying that this was his childhood game. He couldn’t even give the proper date of purchase. 8:01 May of 1990? First off, the Super Nintendo wasn’t even released in the US until August of ‘91. Second, Earthbound wasn’t released in the US until June of ‘95.

Good point, you could totally get an Etsy strategy guide, Etsy box, and Chinese duplicate and slap them all together. The lack of any internal cardboard or other papers is also a giveaway given how perfect the box and game are. Should've opened that game up and confirmed it's original PCBs. Also, yeah, super sketch that that dude thought it was 1990 when the SNES launched in 91 in the US. He said he was 2 years old in 1990 vs. 7, which is a big difference and by 7 he would've remembered getting it new. That's wild he just pocketed probably $1300 or so. They need to keep game bits at the counter and open any retro game over $50 to verify it's real.

I wonder how the worth of old games will change. Like games dropping in price once the people that feel nostalgic for them are at getting to an age, where they reselling their collections and demand is decreasing. I heard people talking about that this already happened to Atari VCS games a while ago. Will there be a point when the prices increase again or will it be free fall once most of the people that enjoyed them back in the day are gone? Over the last half a year to a year I saw prices drop quite a bit when comparing what they went for like a year ago and nowadays. Going after sites like pricecharting, Earthbound also peaked and went down again.
@MartinvanZ
@MartinvanZ 11 ай бұрын
People that played these games when they were young are just around 40 now. They will most likely keep collecting until they reach 60. At that point newer generation systems will be the once that will be collected the most. But the old stuff will be still sought after by newer collectors, mainly for historical reasons. So if you keep that in mind the games that are of a historical significance will most likely keep their value, even when the people that played the games are no longer active collectors. The bulk of games will drop in value. But as long as the franchise of the series is still populair, the first games will be collectable. Think of game series like, Mario, Zelda, Street fighter, tomb Raider etc. As long as the series keeps it spot in the top current games.
@jiduto
@jiduto 11 ай бұрын
The prices peaked during covid when a lot of people were stuck at home and got bored. As for people aging out, these games will still be valuable because they will continue to just get older and more rare. I do agree that those of us who grew up with these games will eventually not be around anymore, but video games will always be a part of culture, and the old Nintendo stuff will always be appreciated and sought after, in my opinion.
@MartinvanZ
@MartinvanZ 11 ай бұрын
@@jiduto yes, but it might get more selective. Some games may drop in value while others will keep value or rise. I Look at comics for example, you will see the more historical importance the higher the price. You can get an old comic for little money but the first superman comic is worth a fortune.

@@poa2.0surface77Emulators have been around since the 90s and age of fans depends on the platform. We will see a curve with all platforms but the question is what will happen further into the future. Big Box games with their feelies are awesome and nice to look at. Many collectors also don't care too much about if the floppy disks are still working. There is a chance that these games might become something like artworks that you put on show, even if you didn't grow up with them. In the end you should always think about how much something is worth to you and not so much about how much you could profit of it in the future. The problem are the many resellers / scalpers, that are driving prices up. Maybe this will actually bring them back down to a normal level if the number of resellers goes down. People nostalgic for these games will most likely continue collecting. Once prices are more reasonable again, it might even attract the ones that gave up on collecting because of inflated prices. That games were selling for thousands was never healthy. This "rating" crap was neither. People that bought into this in hopes of high profits aren't collectors anyway.

That person took care of them only to have you slapping and scraping them around. I guess when you’re rich you cease to care. The lady at the register too. Wonder how many boxes and manuals you’ve damaged. Can’t have a heavy hand like that. Bet you’ve got fluorescent lighting in your store again all the boxes and plastics. Preservation.
