I have this scanner with the upgraded‘light pin’ gates and agree, it is an amazing scanner.

I am not aware of the 'light pin' gates, thanks for the info. I will contact Roger to ask more about these, thats if he is still making them for the mark i unit.

That scanner or one of the newer models is my dream. But there's no way I can justify the cost for the few movies I do. I get by with the cheap Wolverine scanner and somewhat rescue the footage via software. Eventually I'll send my most treasured films to someone with a quality scanner. If something should happen to them in the mail at least I'll still have the lower quality scans done with the Wolverine. Very informative video, thanks.

I have the Epson 850 which is a great scanner for slides that do not need to be scanned at very high resolutions. The slide gate for the retroscan scans at a low resolution I believe so would not suit my needs. If a customer needs very high res scans I put them on to a friend who has very specialised scanners for that kind of work.

Does your scanner allow for 16 MM realtime 24 fps transfer with sound ?

When you purchased it, was it originally a Universal with the HD camera and you upgraded it to the 2K camera?

Thanks for the video! Can it overscan the fame? (Can it scan and include the sprocket holes at the edge?)

Yes it can. I do this when I am scanning 16mm film with optical sound but for the majority of films I do not scan the sprocket holes.

Spot-On stuff. You mentioned a "wolverine" system. Could you advise me as to who sells this product. ALTERNATIVELY...Can you quote me for some 15 x 16mm 1938 Rare (?) footage/reels (German Army training/etc) - converted to digital please.

The Retroscan is sold and manufactured in Texas, USA by Moviestuff. Roger is the CEO, a very knowledgeable guy. They no longer make this model, the new mark ii model sells from $10,000 plus taxes, inport duties and shipping. The Wolverine machines are stnd & super 8 only, very cheap to buy and a pain to use but are available on Amazon & Ebay. I can transfer 16mm, my prices are based on reel sizes.
