Retrospectrum: Bob Dylan’s America | Art Loft

I remember being impressed as a young man by Dylan's seemingly perennial quest to learn as an artist, musically. He seemed never to be satisfied. Even after reaching the pinnacle he was always struggling to grow. He was always more concerned with the art itself, the quest for sublime expression, than commercial popularity. His drawings and paintings when he started out, like about fifty years ago, were always interesting, if rather primitive. Now he has mastered the brush. Wow! This is like Dante Gabriel Rosseti meets Edward Hopper. The man continues to awe and mystify.

Multidimensional mind that is further aided by a clarity of purpose and will to action. It is a real surprise to me to learn that Bob Dylan is a masterful draftsman and painter. Maybe that is not entirely my lapse, as I have yet to see a book about his visual art in my big city's library. I am now more motivated than ever to get serious about the production end of my artistic life. (Too many great ideas sitting in sketch books.)

Still looking for videos of him actually painting these paintings. If anyone could send a link of him painting that’d be great. Not just a short clip of him painting one little stroke but a piece from nearly start to finish. A person can’t get this good at painting without painting often for years and years. His whole life has been in the spot light so there’s got to be a video out there somewhere. Also, would love to see Johnny Depp painting video.
