Rally-X is basically Pac-Man if it was designed like a driving game. It has very similar music, it was made in the same year and the general objective is virtually identical (Clear levels by collecting all instances of a particular item in a maze-like setting while avoiding enemies that are chasing you at every turn). #ChangeMyMind I'm surprised this game never got a NES/Famicom port. I love the score tally sound in the Sharp X68000 version; it sounds very pleasant.

Oddly enough, there was a blatant Rally-X clone on both the Vic-20 and the Commodore 64: Radar Rat Race. The gameplay of both games is ABSOLUTELY identical. I mean... all you'd have to do to hack Rally-X into Radar Rat Race would be to: Change the racecars into rats Change the rocks into cats Change the smoke screens into star screens Change the flags into cheese Change the BANG into EEEK Change the fuel gauge into a time gauge

"Farting in the streets" (reference to The Who - Won't get fooled again in misheard lyrics) Rally-X was appeared once in Ridge Racer series alongside with other NAMCO IPs (such as Tekken, Mappy, Pac-Man, Ace Combat, Time Crisis, SoulCalibur and more) as a advertising on the track.

The MSX and X68K versions are actually ports of New Rally-X. Notice the music and the presence of L flags. I’m sure the bonus stages are there too. Also, the VIC-20 port is one of the earliest games from HAL Laboratory.
@amerigocosta74523 жыл бұрын
Exactly. A lot of people doesn't even know that many early VIC-20 and also C64 cartridge games were developed by HAL Labs in Japan, mostly because they were credited to Commodore that published them. Also the VIC-20 was mostly designed by Commodore of Japan, and was also a huge success there unlike the C64 and Amiga that totally flopped.

The MSX could do decent scrolling if graphics were kept fairly simple, and that's the case here. There are other cases like Pippols.

@@amerigocosta7452 There's something about it's grapichs modes no? You sacrifice some soothness to have more sprites on screen. This is the example of Gradius series.
@amerigocosta74523 жыл бұрын
@@TheTenthArt eventho I owned an MSX-1 I don't really know what the real issue is. My understanding is that the graphics memory is separated from the general memory and can only be processed in chunks. But then again it's possible to make smoother scrolling routines in software at the expenses of graphics detail. So you have River Raid on the MSX running very smoothly while Star Force is like 8 pixels at once.
