Also on a couple of stages you can push back a cactus or tree stump to get the helmet. There are also a couple stages where you push back a tree stump and get invisibility for about 10 seconds. And returning home, push back a hydrant, cactus or tree stump for a set of ballons, one of which is a 7650. If you get the correct colored balloon for a 7650, then all remaining balloons captured are also 7650. And a couple stages where Pac-man is returning home you can sometimes get an 'S' for an extra Pac-man. You have to rub against the cactus as you jump with your super shoes, or rub against the cliffs with your super shoes. I always wanted a bonus stage or two on Pac-land where Pac-man could try out the different vehicles the monsters use.

Little bit of trivia: the US version of Pac-Land was modeled after the "Pac Man" cartoon at the time (which is why Chomp-Chomp the dog is in the opening screen, US Pac Man's nose is shorter than JP Pac Man, and why the Pac Family have hair/blue bow (US Baby Pac)--JP Ms. Pac Man has no hair, and JP Baby Pac is female with red bow). Also, JP Pac-Land has an ending, US Pac-Land keeps cycling through levels.

@@kajioukun They do but when Namco wanted to do a US version, Hanna-Barbers were open to Namco using the US designs. When they did “Pac Man: The New Adventures” they did a rework where the first kid was “Jr. Pac Man” (aka “Pac Baby #1”) and Pac Baby #2 was the daughter. @reillywalker1952 жыл бұрын
@@theimortal1974 From what I've read, this game was only ported officially to the Famicom. Nintendo built early Famicom cartridges with little storage space to keep costs down, so Namco probably had to cut down on graphics to help make this game fit. The Commodore 64 also had a lot more onboard RAM to work with than the Famicom (64 KB vs 2 KB), which Grandslam probably took full advantage of.

Update this to include the Arcade Archives and Pac-Man Museum+ versions. Although both versions are virtually identical to the original arcade versions, there are two minor changes that some may not notice. Ms. Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man were both replaced by Pac-Mom and Pac-Sis. This is because of Bandai Namco's ongoing dispute with AtGames for the Ms. Pac-Man trademark

i dont quite understand the unanimous hatred for the famicom/nes port. i think it's main problem is rly just the color which is kinda unavoidable due the the famicom's hardware as evident in a lot of namcot's other ports and a lot of famicom games at the time that are ports of similar, colorful arcade games. i think making pac man small was a good call too cause if u notice that the other 8bit ports have pac mans head big but with practically no legs and waddling around on lil feet while the famicom port has him small but still with legs like the arcade. i think the game also controls pretty great and some of the graphics are pretty nice(i like the simplicity of the houses and the blue and green hills in the bridge levels) but i also agree that they couldve made a better port especially with things they cut out like the scene of the fairy giving u the boots and removing pac man's family and the door to the fairy land -_- i think its a pretty decent port considering how early it came out and that it obviously cant compete with the pc engine port, it looks different enough and has its own lil charm. like compare it to the port of yokai dochuki on famicom and pc engine where both look similar to the arcade but because of that there's like no reason to even ever buy the famicom port if u have the pc engine since its inferior in every way since its a direct imitation of something that the pc engine can and does way better.

1. Arcade: It's perfect as always. Pacman's face is cute, especially at the end. He has little nose and a little red hat. 2. Arcade (Japan): Pacman's face is not that cute. He has big nose and a bit larger brownish hat. I prefer the non Japan version. 3. Sharp: Very good, it's almost identical to the Arcade version except the picture is narrower and Pacman has big nose. (which I don't like, but it's not a big problem) 4. Playstation: It's like the Sharp version, but the picture size (also the resolution?) is smaller. But, Pacman has little nose. 5. TurboGrafix: Really good, but it's not that good like the previous versions. The background has simplier graphics. The game area is zoomed. 6. Atari: The scroll is not really good, the enemy sprites are different, the audio is ok. Pacman sometimes smiles. It's better than the Amiga version, which is rare! 7. Amiga: The scroll here is also not really good, (bad for an Amiga), the graphics are identical to the Atari version. The audio is not the real one, but it's ok. Pacman has only one face, which looks angry. 8. C64: Very nice for this machine. Pacman has face expressions in the different situations. The sound could have been better. 9. NES: It's good. One of the smoothest scroll. But, Pacman's face is always angry. 10. NEC: Less colors would have been better. The graphics are a bit ugly this way. Pacman looks not really kind. 11. Amstrad: No scroll. (better off without that) The sounds are not any good. The graphics are ok, a bit dark though. 12. Atari Lynx: It has a too low resolution and because of this, the graphics are a bit ugly. I think the developers did their best though. It's not that bad, if you can stand this pixel face.. :) 13. MSX: It's like the Spectrum version, but somehow it's better. 14. Spectrum: Usually the worst version. But, it's not that bad game on this machine.

I always watch the arcade original footage first and then jump straight to the ZX Spectrum and then Amstrad CPC just to see the biggest difference.

The Amiga version could have been as good as the arcade if they hadn't have done a crappy ST port... theres no excuse for slow shakey scrolling when the blitter could do it without breaking a sweat, especially as something as simple as that game.

the euro computer versions were the last games to come from quicksilva, who shut it's doors after they were released. talk about ending things with a bang.

Grandslam published Pac Land, but this was the last game to use the Quicksilva brand. Quicksilva was Grandslam - Argus Press brought Quicksilva, who became Grandslam. They were in business until about 1995. They also owned Bug Byte (Manic Miner's publishers).

Wow, I've never seen the X68000 version! This is the best version obviously. I grew up with the C64 version though and love it!

Pac-land's controls is very confusing to me. Why did you have to use the buttons to move and the d-pad to jump? Also, the NES version looks more like an Atari 5200 game

Arcade (US): the one we like 10/10 Arcade (JP): like the US version, but pac's nose is bigger 10/10 Nes: the graphics are a bit bad, but the music is good. Btw, where is pac's nose? 7/10 Nec pc 8001: all the sprites are ok except for the road, it makes my eyes burn! Btw decent music for this computer 6/10 C64: good graphics and music for the commodore 64. 8/10 Amstard CPC: game is slow and starts getting slower if more than 1 ghost is on the screen. Also because of the limits of the computer, it does not have sidescrolling 5/10 Amiga: good music in start, but this game is underwhelming for what can the amiga do, and the music is slow. 5.5/10 Atari st: similar to the amiga, but chiptune music. Better than amiga since it is not underwhelming 7/10 TurboGrafx 16: it is like the original arcade one! 9/10 Zx spectrum: good old speccy. only yellow, blue and black. But the music is like the amstard one and like the CPC, it does not have sidescrolling. Good for the speccy 6/10 MSX: like the speccy, but the music is faster and the yellow is more white! 6.25/10 Atari lynx: good for a portable system at the time. 7/10 Sharp x68000 like the arcade version 9/10 Psx: same as arcade! 10/10

The jp version of the arcade version is better due to it changing Pac-Mans eyes from the human like ones to the more traditional pie eyes

Turbo-Grafx 16 is one of the better ports, as expected. But, so is Atari Lynx which is weird.
@jasonlee78164 жыл бұрын
Atari Lynx had a number of good arcade ports Double Dragon, Hard Drivin, Hydra, Klax, Ninja Gaiden aka Shadow Warriors, Paperboy, Raiden, Rampage, Rampart, Road Blasters, Rygar, S.T.U.N. Runner, Super Off Road, Toki, Xybots why would it be weird to expect a better port of Pac-Land on the Atari Lynx?

A Hanna Barbera's animation into a video game! Arcade (USA/Midway): WHOA WHOA WHOA, the speed! *inserts voices* *Faster* ! *Faster* ! *of Pac-Man 2* Arcade (JP/Namco): Pac-Man eyes are correct, speed okay, Ms. Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man it's okay! Nes: No way, 8-Bit, NO! Paint/Adobe Flash Mode! NEC PC-8001mkll SR: Glitched graphics, not smooth scroll, and CRT filter. Commodore 64: Decent conversion, it's okay with his limitations. Amstrad CPC: Literally the same as Commodore 64, but not scroll and some changes in the colors. Amiga: *WHY THIS IS WORST THAN COMMODORE 64* ?!?! Atari ST: Literally the same as Amiga, but, better music! TG16/PC Engine: Now you can call this an port! And, an Expert/Pro mode when the game is completed! ZX Spectrum (128K): Literally the same as Amstrad CPC, but worse colors and decent music. MSX: Literally the same as ZX Spectrum, with correct BPM music. Atari Lynx: An decent conversion, with good colors and music! Sharp X68000: Again, YOU can call this an port! Playstation: Literally the same as Arcade but the nose is, cutted? My favorites: Arcade, TG16/PC Engine, Sharp X68000 and PS1
