THIS is amazing mate. What you have done here is magical. I need something like this to make my consoles easy to handle again. My current option is becoming a cable and logistical nightmare! Exactly what is needed and I will be keeping a close eye on this. Thank you for going through this much trouble to make such magic mate, I just dont have much options for PAL low latency like this

Do you want to know how to do this for a tenner including the Rpi? I am in the UK

I am blown away by you playing Duck Hunt through this thing. I am even more blown away that you have it going through an HDMI to VGA converter, and am now thinking of shopping around for a good CRT VGA monitor, instead of looking for a PVM.

A device like this would be fantastic to own! This has some of the most important features the OSSC is missing. Very, very cool work!

+1 on adding tint control for NTSC sources. How many horizontal pixels does the ADC sample? I'm looking at possibly using something this to capture actual video since so many composite/s-video capture cards either lack a decent comb filter or screw up in some other way (like wacky AGC messing with brightness randomly). That and this would be great for modern TVs that have long since dropped S-Video inputs and are now killing off composite inputs. (for all those LaserDisc and VHS fans!)

I would love to buy one of these! Seems much simpler than the OSSC

Mike I'm using that HDMI to VGA converter along with a monoprice VGA to Component cable. It's connected to my CRT in pass through mode and It doesn't work properly. I get a jumpy inage with skewed colors. Do you know how I can fix it?

3:25 - Going from the HDMI output on this thing to a VGA output converter, is it possible to also add a scanline generator?
@NicB-Creations6 жыл бұрын
Can you explain why it's not ok to connect a console to more then 1 output? I'd like to hook up my N64 to the s-video and NES to composite. Then use it as a switch, it that not ok?

amazing work! ive been intrested in a similar solution. as of now there is no way to convert 15khz 240p/288p to 31khz 240p/288p via framedubbeling(120/100hz) similar as a graphics card can output with custom timings. whould it be possible to add that feature to the retrotink?(50/60hz 240p/288p rgb input => 100/120hz 240p/288p output)

It's a cheap generic one: www.aliexpress.com/item/TISHRIC-For-HDMI2VGA-With-Audio-With-Power-Cable-Mini-Micro-For-HDMI-Connector-1080P-For-HDTV/32839905126.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.571d4c4d1rGtg8. But it works great!

Question; Some consoles switch from 240p to 480i like the PS1,, will the RetroTINK-2X keep the output true to input in passthrough mode? My main use of it will be converting Composite to RGB for the OSSC.
@retrotink3396 жыл бұрын
Yup! I just tried Chrono Cross last night. Switches from 480i to 240p and vice versa super fast!
@Dopefish6 жыл бұрын
I'm super interested to use this in combination with the OSSC (like many others). Would it be possible with a version that could output straight to analog RGB instead of using a HDMI to VGA converter? Either way I'd like to purchase one from either videogameperfection, or from you directly :)
@MrBenedictHeyer6 жыл бұрын
This looks great! Do you need a sync combiner after the HDMI to VGA converter? And which one do you use?
@retrotink3396 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't use a sync converter. I just plug the HV inputs into the sync in and sync out. It's off spec, but gets the job done.
@MrBenedictHeyer6 жыл бұрын
Mike Chi Gotcha! Thanks for the quick reply! I briefly tried this with my BVM D series monitor but I got too scared and bought an Extron RGB interface :)
@Izquierda6 жыл бұрын
Just ordered one of these. I will be using it like you with a VGA to BNC cable hooked to a BVM with pass-thru mode. Basically buying this only to connect systems that output 240p S-Video at best to a BVM that does not have a Y/C decoder card. This should work, right? Also, as someone asked, do you plan to release a version with direct RGB analog output instead of HDMI? I would use it for the same purpose. Turns out that a proper S-Video to RGB solution just doesn't seem to exist. Found a converter that outputs YPbPr but it ruins the 240p input by turning it into a messy shimmery 480i signal.
@retrotink3396 жыл бұрын
Cool thanks! I did think about release a RGB version but the HDMI->VGA converter is exactly the same thing in terms of quality and lag. The only downside is no composite sync generation, but that's a not a big deal for most users.
@Izquierda6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Yeah that sounds like the best compromise. For sync I'll just do what you did and hook up the H and V to the Sync in and Sync out on the BVM.
@GustavoValdiviesso6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I'm ordering one from the website, but I need to ask you something: do the several options differ on the board level or just the connectors? I'm asking because I would like to use it as an HDMI mod of an NES, instead of an external device. So I won't use the connectors anyway. Can I do that?
@jfkanye50016 жыл бұрын
So this might be a newbie question, but please bear with me. This allows the pie to output 240p, is this limited to retropie, or could it also output 240p with Kodi? For example playing a 480p video file at 240p. I know there would be a reduction in detail, I'm just curious.
@crispux36 жыл бұрын
Love your work. I've been following for a long time even though I don't own a pi. Have you ever considered having rf output? I have a RadioShack hdmi to rf converter just for fun. It works to connect my switch to 30+ year old dial tvs. (and yes, the picture isn't great, but it brings the feels for sure)

I have an analog HD-CRT set with Vga input no hdmi. With vms turned high, av signal with nes using both 480p and 1080i mode the zapper is working about 3FT. Even with differing aspect ratios including zoom. 16:9 4:3. Tho cannot get super scope or menacer working with av or scart or HD retrovision component in 240p mode. Note, the infrared rf boxes they use are not wide enough for wide screen possibly like the Wiimote sensor bar. The TV remote seems to work on it, hmm. Tho the menacer reacts and has random shots. Hope master system light phazer works. Justifier don't work on the snes either tho bearing resemblance to the zapper technology. Hope retrotink upscaling or line doubling the image will help. The vga works accurately with the dreamcast phazer. Tho not with av mode or scart to component mode unfortunately. Guns react to the plasma set and putting a camera to the plasma, I definitely see strobing bands indicating that it has scanlines.

Hi Mike. 240p Passthrough is great for the OSSC. Is it possible to add a hue setting somehow? That's important for Super mario bros. Everyone wants a different sky color.

I've been searching for something to Input Composite, S-Video and output RGB for a long time, DVD Recorders just don't cut it (lag , region locked). I like to keep my consoles stock, so it's very useful for the AV Famicom and N64 which don't have RGB output.
