Retsuko vs Inui: Did Haida Make the RIGHT Choice? | Aggretsuko Season 3

Haida wasn't wrong for choosing Retsuko, and I am certain that Inui figured that out before most of the viewers. Inui wanted a committed relationship with Haida, but it is clear that Haida couldn't provide that. Him not replying to her question about liking each other was salvageable, but the attack in front of the office was the nail in the coffin. From her perspective, Inui just watched the guy she liked risk his life for another woman then cry in desperation when she doesn't respond. If a guy does that for someone else but can't say that he likes you back when asked, a chance at a happy relationship is slim. It would be honestly cruel for Haida to start dating Inui after that. Speaking of the stalker scene, the face she gives when Haida tries to say that he would've chosen her if given more time was basically saying "Don't even try to lie to me so I can feel better about being rejected". It is honestly my favorite part of that scene between them because you can read the sadness and frustration she has about being rejected by Haida. Don't even need dialogue to know what's going through her head.

Retsuko is the one who doesn't deserve Haida, since she as much cared about him and as much thought about him as she does over Fox guy in her office or any other random guy. I hope this show doesn't just end with RetsukoxHaida because she suddenly figure out that she cannot do any better than Haida and she will prove that she cares.

MrConredsX at this point in time, I agree. If they continue the series, I hope they start to build on their relationship. At first it almost seemed like Retsuko and Haida was a thing in the end (mainly cause I do want them to end up together, but I also just want them to be happy), but it wasn’t officially said. Retsuko was just being a little more honest with a coworker than she usually is. I think if they do get another season (I honestly don’t know if they assured another), that would probably be the next story of either becoming a couple or just Retsuko having an actual relationship with her coworker friends

At least one season would need to be RetsukoxHaida focused, but it would need to be the last season since i can't imagine the show continuing if they all reached happy endings. So either Season 4 or 5 is going to be the last one.

​@@MrConredsX Honestly that sounds like a great way to structure the series. We don't tend to get a lot of works these days that are actually designed to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. So I would be happy to see the series conclude in 5 seasons (4 may feel a bit rushed imo).

@@deponia Many shows are made with intention to make toys and money, like Pokemon never ends or progress to sell merch and games while Simpsons never end to sell views and boost channel popularity. Aggretsuko is an interesting take since its also a franchise that sells toys but the creator wanted to tell a certain relatable story that was probably taken from their experience. And it need the beggining, middle and end. I think creator of Pokemon would also tell a story if he actually owned the rights to his creation. But that belong to Nintendo and many people in that corporation wearing black suit

You know, the fact than everyone tells him than he should choose inui and he made the flip coin thing and the flower petals thing told me than he couldn’t let retsukko go, if he could, he would have been convinced by the coin, and shouldn’t made the flower petals thing, though all this time everyone and everything tells him than he should give up on retsukko until the app match, that was the only one (thing) than reaffirm him, and gave him the push than he needed. (Inui was pretty cute, but is better for both than Haida was sincere with his feelings)

That's pretty dangerous tho. In s1, I didn't want Haida to be Retsuko's boyfriend because Haida was a nice guy and Retsuko was only looking for a way to get out of work. I said Haida deserved better. Now Haida's this clingy, obssesive, insecure guy that might never find the right girl for himself because he cannot let go. This was by no fault of Retsuko either. She didn't string him along. She was honest in rejecting him but the guy still can't let go. Poor Haida.

There wasn't a right or wrong choice. The whole message of the series was "There's no right or wrong choice. Only consequences that you live with." Haida didn't really reject her, though. Inui said it. She wants to be more than friends with Haida but won't go through with it if he doesn't feel the same. I'm glad Inui didn't end up with Haida. Inui deserves someone as mature as her.

I feel like Haida should have picked Retsuko because it would be best for Inui. Inui deserves someone who would have picked her for HER and not someone who would still be hung up on someone else, and not someone who picked her just because she was available. I would say differently if Haida seemed to like her as much as Retsuko, but it was clear that deep down he wanted Retsuko more. It just wouldn't be fair for Inui

Yea Inui was a "smarter" choice in the sense of what fenneko said that its the safer path and calm, it doesnt seem like Haida ever liked Inui like that. In fact at a lot of parts he seemed kind of uncomfortable when she was trying to take things further while at his place, he seemed more attached to the idea that SOMEONE liked him at all. It's nice when someone likes you, it makes you feel good, but he still has strong feelings Retsuko. He doesn't want a guarantee that him and retsuko will be together I feel the season is more of him taking that leap to just GETTING to know her, because in all his previous attempts he failed because that wasnt how you ask retsuko to hang out.

Haida didn't even really MAKE a decision. He didn't dump Inui, she gave up on him because she realized it was pointless. And she made the right move. At the end of S1, Retsuko told Haida she wasn't interested in a relationship with him. She'd rather date a sexy VR unicorn than date Haida. Her disgusted expression when he showed her the 100% compatibility result at the end of S3, basically summarizes her feelings towards Haida. She has NEVER considered him as a potential boyfriend, EVER, despite knowing him for FIVE years. If you've known someone that long and they have never considered you romantically or sexually, they are just not that into you. Haida is clinging to a fantasy. I honestly hope they don't end up together in the end, if only because I don't think either of their unhealthy behaviors should be rewarded.

If I was Haida, I would have done some soul searching to figure out why I was drawn to Retsuko and try emulating that aspect within myself. After that, it wouldn't be so hard for him to move on and connecting with someone new like Inui. Inui was someone who knows who she is and knows what she wants but doesn't seem to have that self fiery passion that Retsuko does. That's clearly one of the things that makes Haida feel very connected to her even when they're really not close like her two other friends.

If you think they shouldn't be rewarded, that's not how it works. They can still earn it, but it depends on the writer. It's like in real life, maturity isn't something that you gain overnight, it is something you gain by experience and a few kind words (Anai is a good example, and his change may be hinting as to the direction of this show, along with other characters like Tadano). The important part now is where are they going from here on, starting with Haida's "Then let's punch at them back.", not what they did before. But considering this is *Aggressive* Retsuko, and it is still a slice of life Japanese anime with a touch of drama, Rarecho might still go with the roundabout way of enforcing the status quo for the MC, as is it is the standard. That or they get married and have punk rock/metal-guitar grinding kids and the hijinks go on.

Eventhough Haida and Inui would have made a loving and stable couple, I think it was very respectable of Haida to reject her. I mean with how easy the two of them talked to one another and got along, you would naturally think they would develop a romantic interest but of course there was one thing getting in the way of that dream... retsuko. Getting over a crush is already hard enough but getting over a 5 year old crush might seem almost impossible. Everyone in the show was telling him to get over retsuko and look towards a definite relationship with Inui but Haida just couldnt do that. He wasnt ready to move on and dating Inui during that doubtful time would only trap a gear in the clockworks of their relationship. The timing was just unfortunate so even if Inui would be the better choice as she'd give Haida the emotional support he deserves, him rejecting her was kind of inevitable from the start. Also Inui's matureness towards the whole situation, giving him space to think and ensuring Haida doesnt feel too guilty with either decision he makes, is just so commendable and makes me like her even more. I cant help but feel bad for her. I do hope Inui makes a reappearance in s4 like Tadano did because she did have amazing chemistry with Haida and I would be so glad if they continued being friends.

Not that great of a character, but she definitely served her purpose. She made Haida question his own conviction and strengthened his resolve by the end. Anyone could have done it but, having him "see" other people did put into him the idea that he should no longer stew on his feelings, and be much more trusting of it. Cause at the end of the day, feelings trump logic when it comes to love. And that's what he did approaching the end of the season.

i think Haida made the right choice in choosing Retsuko because at the bar when he said he was ready to move on all that went out the Window when Retsuko texted him asking for guitar lessons. in that moment he completely forgot about Inui. Haida fliped a coin and did the flower test not to pick Inui he wanted the coin to fall heads up he wanted the path to lead to Retsuko's name he wanted the pedal to have Retsuko name with it. He tried telling Inui that if he gave it thought he'd chose her but he's lying to himself so he doesn't hurt Inui's feelings. Retsuko stole Haida's heart 5 years ago.

I was shipping for Haida to get over Retsuko and choose Inui. I totally feel for him since I couldn't get over someone myself. Hanging on the feeling for someone forever without anything in return is very tiresome (granted the dude didn't say anything how he feel), and Inui was the push that could help him get over her. But when I saw him do the coin toss and picking petals from flowers to choose between Retsuko or Inui I was like "yeahhhhh just let Inui go, don't drag the poor woman into this since you aren't going to get over Retsuko."

@@sprinkelle1165 Thing is he was also pressured into going for Inui. That's the dealbreaker for me. Inui could be as nice as she wants but the fact that his friends are pushing him can only lead to disaster because, as they say, pressure has to go somewhere or it will explode. It went to the point that Haida was becoming uncomfortable with Inui, and it is really hard to blame him. Besides, the Retsuko attack just sealed the deal for him. He can't do anything about it, that's him doing it almost subconsiously. At that point in time he doesn't have a choice anymore, his heart has spoken and it won't ever be Inui.

I'm seeing a lot of comments say he made the right choice because he wouldn't be committed to Inui and isn't really over Retsuko. Which I agree with on that part. His lack of decision and his unwillingness to move on from Retsuko would make a relationship with Inui a pretty toxic one to be honest. However, I do believe he made the wrong choice here. Not for not choosing Inui, but for choosing Retsuko at all. Think about it. Can anyone point to Retsuko actively wanting to hang out with Haida after work before the guitar lessons? Can you point to before the guitar lessons when she was the one to be the first to engage a conversation with him? Can you point to when she took an interest in anything in Haida's life? Even the guitar lessons are questionable because she only hung out with him to get something out of him. As it stands I do not believe Retsuko even views him as an actual friend. Just simply coworkers. The season finale was the first time that we saw her actually want to hang out with him, even then it's lunch at work. Until they go beyond the workplace their relationship will not go any further. Let's also not forget about the fact that she told him point black, with no chance of misunderstanding, she's not interested in him. So him continuing to chase her despite knowing it's a lost cause at this point paints a potentially horrible relationship for the two. Haida is a dog chasing a car. If he was to actually catch it I doubt he'd know what to do. He's chasing a literal fantasy at this point. The fact that he chose her at all only makes it clear that Haida isn't ready for relationships in general. He needs to grow past an office crush and learn that not all women will like him back. That sometimes a sure thing should be taken, or at least given a chance. He's still too immature.

You're a bit harsher on Haida than I am, but I agree. Inui could've been a great match for him, but that's besides the point. Ideally he should've moved on from Retsuko a long time ago. She turned him down in s1, but his feelings for her made him miserable in s2, and would've made him miserable in s3 even without the Inui subplot. Missing out on a relationship with Inui was really just the icing on the cake.

The best way to explain it would be like this. The best thing for Haida to be able to do is to move on from Retsuko and start a life with Inui. But emotional attachments aren't an easy thing to get rid of, they tend to linger. In the long run, it could be possible for Haida to cut those romantic ties, but how long would that take? In the meanwhile, would that be fair to Inui? Would the relationship last long enough for him to get over Retsuko or would it break down because of his lingering connections to Retsuko?

To be honest Inui is so to the point and understanding to Haida. She deserves better than the excuses and mumbling from Haida. She still likes him but letting him go is her best choice. Had they started a relationship he would still have eyes for Retsuko. I’m not really on board with the HaidaxRetsu ship , it sweet as a crush scenario but Retsuko has no romantic feelings for him and sees him in a platonic way. She only turn to him when she needs help with something and the important thing is she never takes advantage of his obvious crush on her.

Me personally, retsuko wasn't the right answer. She's never had those type of feelings for haida. She's not even got them now at the end of season 3. It was more of a buddy helping a buddy get out of depression. Great thing to do, but haida is chasing a unicorn (pun intended). Haida from season one said he didn't know retsuko, and he still didn't. He had no clue about her goings on without resorting to stalking. He was further removed from her social life than either past season. Not exactly friendship blossoming into love. When a great girl like Inui already had such feelings, and haida seemed to reciprocate before retsuko needed help with her instrument. End of the day, Inui was the safe choice. And probably the one that would be more fulfilling and less stressful.

Well, hopefully, next season they have Haida get with Fenneko because Fenneko makes FAR more sense and has some subtle hints of feelings, the most obvious of which being her statement in the bar where she says that "The battle wasn't supposed to end like this." shortly before crying, which is a curious statement especially mixed with the emotional outburst it extracted as it begs the question of how in the world was she hoping it would end?

I liked Inui, and thought she balanced out Haida's more skittish personality. But I was a Retsuko/Haida shipper from the start, so HELL YEAH.

personally I think their archs parallel each other. Both Haida and Retsuko had to deal with taking initiative in their lives vs living them passively. But it all boils down well in the arguably now infamous karaoke scene at the end. Haida is already well aware he can't change or push his feelings onto to Retsuko but all he wants is to be someone she can confide in as stated in his claim "I want to be were you belong. I don't expect you to trust the world-but trust in me" that in many ways bounces off of his original confession at the end of season 1 where he says he doesn't know the real Retsuko but want to know her which is paralleled by her frustration in saying he doesn't know her at all. Then when she let's loose rather than back down and leave her be Haida becomes the only one who can literally climb up and face her rage against the world, meet her there, and in his words "Then let's punch them back" Its unclear if anything romantic will actually bloom from this but their relationship is shifting into one of at least mutual trust which for Retsuko is huge since even with her closest friends she doesn't really confide her grievances with (probably being what lead her to death metal to begin with) Honestly I was surprised this season with the fact Fenneko stated that they were work friends, the kind you don't see outside the office. Before I was under the impression they were best friends but what kind of best friend do you not regularly see outside of work (sure on ocassion they meet outside the office but sincerely Fenneko is shown more often with Haida than Retsuko) . Making me realize the first real friendships she's made in her adult life were with Washimi and Gori. That said even with them she can hardly bring herself to have deeper discussions unless prompted. Both Washimi and Monica this season served to be the main pushing forces of having Retsuko be honest with herself with what she wants implying she was incapable of allowing herself to do so before. With Haida he's passive in this emotional rut he put himself in for Retsuko knowing he was already rejected once and faced with a way out he can't bring himself to take. He arguably should but even in the face of rejection he can't help but want to be close enough to her that he can discover who she really is. Haidas explication for why he even loves her was him finding out someone he thought of as "vanilla" actually had something more to her. That was just finding out she was "stealing" free water. I can only sympathize with how that snowballed over the years.

Haida should've been with Inui, I'll tell you why. He has been chasing Retsuko for 5 years, she had already made up her mind saying that she views him as just a friend and nothing more. What Haida should have done was put that behind him, I know what that's like to have the girl you like not reciprocate the same feeling that you have for them and it's a bitter pill to swallow but you have to move forward with your life or else you're going to wind up hurting yourself chasing something you can't have. Not to mention Inui was genuine and loyal to him, she showed genuine interest and even went out of her way to cook dinner for the two of them. Haida had the goose that laid golden eggs and what did he do with it? Tossed it right in the incinerator. Tsunoda was so spot on to grill him the way she did and call him out on it. I hope Inui find happiness in season 4 and make some realize what he missed out on.

The provlem is that haida dosn't want that kind of relationship, inui is to perfect to me and it destroise her soul even more if she was with haida, she dosn't consurne that thing need time and effort, and retsuko is not a perfect but she is a strong woman with of sense of dependency and sometimes make mistakes but she allways stand up fore herself but inui is like a piece of paper, i mean she is to perfect, so no matter how haida choose, it dosn't matter, is not about these 2 girls, is about haida here, he want to be happy with whatever he wants

The problem is that it would be unfair for Inui if he chose her, knowing he still had feelings for Retsuko. Inui knows what she wants out of the relationship and I'm glad she cut it off now instead of sticking it out and it becoming an even bigger problem down the line. As long as Haida still has Retsuko on a pedestal, I don't see the relationship moving forward and she knew that. Maybe he'll regret it down the line or not but at least I'm happy it ended there. If there is a Season 4, I also hope she finds someone who is willing to put her first in the romance.

I don't know. I've been in Haida's shoes before and I've tried to date a "Retsuko". To me, she was my entire world and i wanted nothing more than to protect her. But for years she made her feelings clear she could never and will never feel the same about me, depsite us being togther once. She too was emotionally unstable but i didn't care. She was just too amazing to me. Thing was, she had better options and i just wasn't her type. If i was Haida, I would have choosen Inui because...how can you not! Her intentions were clear, she's seems easy to talk to, she isn't explosive or toxic, and you could have easily lived a quiet life with her. Not to mention SHE ACTUALLY LIKED HIS ASS!! How do you reject that after years of being rejected by someone else. It's unrealistic to think that Retsuko and Haida could go anywhere, especially after their Karaoke sceen. He's torturing himself by staying in love with Retsuko. And she made it clear that she isn't responsible for his feelings, so why even defend that ship?

Well, from a certain point I do agree, but I don't think that choosing Retsuko was completely unreasonable either, Haida has liked her for years, Unui acknowleged that his built up feelings for Retsuko would get in the way of their relationship, and that maybe he would regret choosing Unui, not because he'd stop liking her or something, but sort of like the advice that Retsuko gave to Haida when he asked her about the Girl B and Girl A stuff, and BECAUSE Unui liked him, even if she would feel upset for getting rejected, she choose to be mature and to do what she thinks was best for him, which would be to let him choose Retsuko (tho I do be feeling pretty bad for her since she was so selfless towards his decision, I REALLY hope that she appears on S4), I think the Karaoke scene with his line of "let's punch back!" was an advance in him starting to know Retsuko better and maybe becoming actual friends with her in the next season(s) ( if there even are any more they will produce actually lol dunno), but then again I don't think theres any need to hate on any ship or another, as long as it'd be a healthy relationship (for example if Retsuko slowly starts liking him as future episodes progress and they get to know more bout each other) I guess in the end, feelings are feelings and even if from a more logical viewpoint one choice would better, feelings are just unreasonable, and you can't just force yourself to change those feelings like that; Haida is just not willing to give up on Retsuko, but i'd for sure would be interesting to see him moving on from retsuko on future seasons too, and becomes just friends with her lmao, let us just see where the story goes I suppose :)

In the end feelings like that can and will destroy you. Just as he can't change his feelings for Retsuko, Retsuko won't change her feelings towards him. It would be unrealistic for her to suddenly start feeling for him after all those years and what he has done for her. There's nothing he can do that will change that fact. For his sake, I hope he moves on.

Just because you experienced that doesn't mean Haida will experience the same, Retsuko might start to grow feelings for Haida herself anyway. The web of choices and decisions will always vary from one person or another and one can say that that ending is just as realistic as yours... just because someone underwent a change at a specific moment, when neither of you did in your history. That's why life is interesting, no two person have the exact same experiences. Even though the pattern seems to point towards tragedy for Haida, life has a curious tendency to break patterns just because it felt like it. So you'll really never know unless you tried. Retsuko never really closed the door for Haida anyway. I've been in his position before and I would say I got lucky the first time around. It wasn't even a true confession, supposed to be just a joke one time... she accepted, and then it just blossomed. Sometimes you never know what will happen anyway, maybe they'll grow closer, maybe they'll get bitter. The important thing is that they enjoyed the ride. Realistically speaking, he chose correctly... because he never had a choice in the end. His heart spoke in front of Inui and she understood, so she closed the door for him. Haida's emotions during that scene was at its rawest, most sincere form, and Inui made him realize that. He took a knife to his hand and felt no pain, only anger, fear, and then despair. You don't normally feel these one after the other unless the person involved is someone you cared for deeply. That is why I'm rooting for them. Both of them are still yet to take choices that I sadly didn't make, and they're growing up one step at a time. And if they take just the right choices, the end will be something to behold. Not because it is realistic for me or anything, but because it shows that life is life, you can't take it for granted.

It took Haida 5 years to suddenly get Resuko to visit his apartment. But it took only like 2 months (wasn't paying attention to the time pass in season 3 but around 2 months) to get Inui to visit his apartment. In real life I would have chosen Inui easily. But since Haida can never get over his feelings with Resuko, it's the right choice for him to pick Retsuko. I think he would forever regret and not get over feelings for Retsuko even if he's with Inui

Alright, so I haven't seen alot of people saying this, but here was my perspective on the matter, Inui is seen as perfect for Haida, they both have same interests and such. But once you see his motivations of falling for Retsuko, such as her imperfections(that water thief scene), I started to realize why Retsuko was going to be chosen. Inui, no matter what, was seen as perfect in the viewers eyes, we never had an intimate moment with Inui where we see that her surface isn't all she is. Haida never saw that too. So therefore, I think Haida saw Inui as perfect, therefore he didn't/couldn't like her in that way. However Inui deserves happiness and I love her :)

When Inui cut ties with Haida because he rescued Retsuko it rubbed me the wrong way, because it's being implied that Haida only rescued her because he thinks she will open up to him or that Inui will think she still has a shot with Haida if he just allowed the Fan to assault her.

I think the one part of the scene that specifically nailed the coffin or the one part that all in made Inui to just cut things off is when Haida was about to say that he could have choose her... I'm mostly basing this off the english dub, but Haida was about to say that if he had more time he would pick Inui but immediately changed his answer since he saw the look Inui gave to him that he shouldn't lie to himself because he himself knows that that isnt the truth. So i think because of what Haida was about to say she probably cut things off overall because like... I don’t ship Inui with Haida because I think Inui deserves better than to be a rebound. Like it or not, that’s ultimately what she would’ve been if Haida had chosen her because there’s no way Haida could get over the feelings he’s had for Retsuko for the past five years just overnight. The coin flip and flower petal scenes were evidence of his unwillingness to move on so a relationship with Inui would’ve been doomed no matter how much they had in common. I honestly question if Haida would have ever even considered a relationship with Inui on his own if nobody had pushed him to date her. Inui deserves to be someone’s first best, not second.

Inui would have been a smart and safe choice to assure happiness, but I can also see that Haida might feel self conscious about himself. Of how Inui might be more put together or ‘vanilla’ as he thought Retsuko was before he fell in love, while he might be ‘messed up.’ Though we’ve seen parts of his story, we also don’t know too much about him. We know some flaws, but maybe there are other things about him we might not know about. I feel like even though he made his choice, even if they don’t end up together, they will help one another with any issues they might have. Their conversation at the end showed promise :)

As you say there is no right or wrong in Haidas choice. No one of them were a wrong or right choice they were just that, a choice. Sadly we can't choose who to love... and I do know how it feels like when you are really close to a friend and it would just make perfectly sense to fall in love with that friend, but you just don't or can't and simultaneously you are in love with someone else who seems unreachable in comparison but is the person who you love. To be clear I'm actually gald I didn't fall in love with my friends. I have many really close friends and I love spending time with them and being open about so much that's going on. I can fall in love with anyone of my friends and I know that but I'm glad I don't and no they aren't back ups to me. That's what differed me and Haida. The people who are close to me are actual friends and thankful no second love interests. We talk a lot about friendship and relationships and my best of my friends and I promised each other to be honest when we fall in love with each other, so we can work it out. The person I'm in love with right now is a person I tried to tell about my feelings about 6month ago, after our exams... Yeah I bet you already got it. Corona got in the way. He went back to his home town and we rarely communicated with each other because I was a nervous wreck and we both were really busy with university. I wanted to tell him in person but no matter what I tried nothing worked. Wanna do it on video call? Wups he had to go when we were done with homework. I tried to come by with a car of a friend? Nop no contact, his mam is a highly risk groupe, that's why he went back and helped with his little sister. Yes I do knwo that it sounds like he might know and tried to avoid it but my feelings didn't change so I have to tell him even if he says no, I need to know... So he is my Retsuko. It's difficult to tell him, we didn't have much contact because of corona so it was hard to keep up the relationship that we already had, he probably will reject me because our university is really hard and maintaining or even *starting* a relationship during the pendamic is even more difficult, but I need my chance. I need to know how he feels, even if it is bad, because I can't move on without telling him and I can't change how I feel. Haida was honest to himself. His feelings for Retsuko didn't change and he stayed true to that instead of maybe even hurting Innui in the long term. That's why he waited so long, that's why he was too nervous to get close to Innui, that's why he repeated the coin, stripe and flower game he was playing. You don't choose who you love, you just do and it often hurts.

While I am making some green tea, I seem to remember Tadano and Retsuko’s relationship together. Tadano and Retsuko dated and clicked, but when the marriage topic came up, they both realized that both of them have completely different opinions. So what is the solution for this? They broke up immediately. They don’t want to take this relationship a second chance because their relationship will grow toxic through frustrations and give them reasons why should they separate. Now, if Haida and Inui went on a date, it would hurt Inui because she feels like she and him are going out because Inui acts like a substitute to Haida rather than a partner she’ll spend her life unconditionally. Sure, Haida can just let go Retsuko and try someone, and then what? What do you think will happen? Do you think this is a happily ever after? What I liked the most is the reaction of Inui when she realized Haida was in love for oher person. She stopped being “over kind” drastically and started being cold, yeah polite, but cold. She even had a point whe said that someway forced Haida to take a decision. It almost felt realistic!. In real life not all the choices are for our benefit, so you can pick up the “right” and lose after all. I've been scouring KZbin listening to different opinions on S3 and this is the only video I've seen that takes an objective look at the situation between Retsuko, Haida & Inui. I've seen and read too many people making definitive statements about what Haida should've chosen but you're only one to acknowledge that it's hard to know the correct answer since we'll never see the other side. I think it's easy to make a case for both sides but at the end of the day, Haida needed to choose. And he did. I agree that it's totally possible that Haida & Retsuko could try to go into a relationship and it wouldn't at all be what Haida hoped for (possible material for Season 4...) but we're not at that point yet.

I think the thing a lot of people forget when it comes to this is preference. Inui is very cute, but as much as Haida knew she was a better choice, she may not have been what he wanted. This is a much more nuanced take then the others I have seen, and I'm glad to see it. I'd also like to add to the discussion that it would have never been fair to Inui and eventually, it was likely Haida's feelings for Retsuko would have made their relationship fail anyway. No girl wants to be in a relationship where the guy is pining for another, that would have just been torture for Inui, and she wouldn't deserve that. Just because someone is a good person, doesn't mean they are good for another person. We saw that in season one.

Haida is going through a rough time working in the office and believe me. Its damn stressful work and Retsuko indirectly gives him moment of times to destress and such. Plus its hard to open up and trying not to create conflicts. So in my opinion, Haida would've chose Retsuko, because Inui is new and doesn't understand her co-workers years they invested on in their lives on the only possible job market that it qualifies to them.

I think it all hinged on haida's ability to let go emotionally and give emotionally. He was reluctantly willing to give up on Retsuko in a slow but gradual attempt of letting go of an unhealthy attachment he has for her. I say unhealthy because he can't very much describe *why* he likes retsuko as Fenneko was helping him figure out. He could only describe certain instances she acted in. From afar. That kind of attraction is something that is a draw in for sure, but he doesn't know her beyond much that. Even when haida did find out more it was never cause Retsuko told him or confided in him. She actually even just used him for free bass lessons when they hadn't developed a very good friend ship beyond office co-workers. That may sound like a stretch to some, but think of it this way. Out of kindness, Haida gave her those free lessons when she could have gotten a teacher. Her fear of being discovered and her own current financial situation pushed her to reach out to Haida. Beyond that? I don't think he would have been her first choice. Retsuko's mistakes always lead back to falling on her friends for support and she does *nothing* to help them in return. She is very much focused on her own world and fantasy rather than giving back to her friends. She didn't even thank Haida for saving her. She does have a kinder side, but she is also very self-driven which can be misleading. I do not think Haida and Retsuko are a good match because of this. Haida has always been willing to give SO much with getting absolutely no affection, no information and barely any friendship in return. I do think he wasn't ready for Inui, not completely though. As he immediately stopped on a dime to do something for Retsuko when she reached out again. He wasn't completely over her and he hadn't had that smack-in-the-face reality that Retsuko simply just does not feel that way back to Haida. Their song battle reflected that. I think it wasn't a romantical gesture so much as it was Haida again reaching out to Retsuko to help her open up to her friends and see that they are ALWAYS there for her. Will Retsuko develop feelings after that? I don't know, but from everything before that they are *not* a good match right now. He should have let go and picked Inui.

I really liked season 3... nearly every scene was great and the character development was great! But i hate that the only way, Restuko reconise Haida is after she been stalked and attacked. The seasons final feels rushed and leaves us with a terrible massage. All the selfesteem, Restuko had build up, was gone and Haida had to build it up again. Mäh. It's great to see a character on screen who is unable to bond with a love interest. I wish we had seen Haida moving on an letting go of Restuko (it's oke to be single and it's oke to take your time). It's like going back to a restaurant where you had a great meal before. Do you order the same thing again, knowing it'll be good or do you take a risk that something else on the menu might be just as good or even better? Inui is the sure thing. Retsuko is the risky choice. It's up for the person dining to determine whether or not they're willing to take a risk. You can't fault someone for going either way. Personally, I'm all for Haida following his dreams in perusing Retsuko over Inui. He's longed for her for five years. He's still got a crush after five years and being rejected. Gonna briefly share my thoughts before watching the video. Inui is the obvious choice. She's perfect. But interestingly enough Haida is charmed by people's flaws rather then their virtues. Also he likes that 5+ year slow burn, apparently. I'm thinking they're going to draw this waiting game out for another season or two. Hopefully they'll have a season where when Haida and Retsuko get together, they explore how their relationship is difficult sometimes. Inui or Ratsuko was the choice Haida thought he was making, but it wasn't really a choice he was presented with. First of all, Ratsuko wasn't interested so in that regard there was no choice to be had. You could say he had a choice whether to let go of his feelings towards Ratusko so he can be happy with Inui, and I definitely think he should have, but he didn't have a choice in that either. He just couldn't do it, and it was obvious the moment he had to act without thinking. His only actual choice was whether to pursue a relationship with Inui while he still had unresolved feelings for Ratsuko. He chose not to do that, and that is the right choice. Sure, he could've handled it better. Inui was hurt by his indecisiveness, but she would have been way more hurt if he tried to force himself into the "right" relationship with her. So in the end, Haida made the only right choice given his character flaw of not being able to move on from Ratsuko.

At the risk of sounding...super vague and wishy-washy, I don't think Haida should have chosen either of them. I don't think he should be in a relationship, especially with someone as awesome as Inui, with someone he's not fully happy to commit to. That doesn't do either party in the relationship any good. But I do think that him continuing to have such persistent feelings for Retsuko (especially when he can't even give a clear answer as to why he has them), someone he has explicitly said he doesn't know terribly well and who is very obviously not interested in him without making ANY kind of attempt to work through those feelings and move on is...not the best choice for anyone to make, either. Intentionally keeping yourself in a doomed, one-sided romantic attachment with someone you don't know that well (and trust, me I speak from experience) is only going to make you more miserable in the long-run, and I think his over-attachment to his coworker is preventing him from truly developing as an adult. I felt there was real potential with him and Inui, and I greatly enjoyed their interactions; I Got™ it, so to speak. I've never had that reaction to any part of his relationship with Retsuko. TLDR, everyone should stay single, and Inui should get a spin-off.

I think Haida did the right thing. Yes, Inui is perfect, when Retsuko is all about imperfection. Haida would have it easy with Inui, but in exchange he would have to live in lies. Lying to Inui abot liking her, lying to himself. It tough chose to live like that, and you can never achieve happiness this way. So, Haida was right for choosing Retsuko, Inui didn't need his pity, she is fine woman, she could find someone for her, who will love her no matter what

Here my issue. Retsuko has said to Haida in the past...that she doesn't like Haida like that. Retsuko has had many relationships that have failed before I feel like Haida should too. It just the healthy thing to do and no one seems to be looking at that fact

In all honesty, Haida should have chosen Inui. Where he like waits for her but senses trouble from overhearing Retsuko's call from her felliw band member. So he then soon saves her life and asks someone to call a hospital. Then goes back to meet up with Inui and start a relationship with her.

My own personal belief is he did not make the right decision. What would make things even more complicated is the fact that Retsy and Haida work in the same department, same office at that matter. If anything happens (A brerak up/ some other drama) they will be stuck to work with and see each other and that can impact performance, and EVERYONE will know there is a problem. Yes, Inui does work in the same building, but in two different departments on 2 separate floors. And she does not come with all of the drama and is fully ready to commit. But on the other hand, if he had made the right decision, he would not have been there to save Retsy's life......

I think he could develop feelings for Inui if he gave it time. He fell for Retsuko over basically nothing. All his feeling for her are based on knowing nothing about her. He's really just fawning over her because he's committed to the thought of her with nothing solid. I really did lose some respect I had for him. Manoka is the best character now.

I think Haida hasn't found the right person yet. He needs someone he is interested in and likes him back. Relationships take work. It is important to at least want to let someone half-way. If you don't view them as a romantic partner it will almost never turn out that way. Haida owes it to himself to take some time to be alone and reflect. To not let anyone else give him relationship advice.

It's not that I think Inui was a better choice in the last episode but from her first appearance I was really hoping it would go well and Haida would move on from Retsuko. By the end though, it seemed like he shegged it with Inui and Retsuko never liked him so there shouldn't have been a "choice", just him ending up back at square one. I'm not a fan of the ambiguous ending having the possible implication that Retsuko opened her heart to him because they karaoke screamed at each other. Haida bottled it and should've faced the consequences of that or been written to get over Retsuko imo.

I'm glad he stuck with Retsuko. Tbh I kind of had a feeling it wouldn't work with Inui for the simple fact that even tho she seemed perfect for him and everyone around him kept telling him to go for her, she into you, etc, no one ever asked if he ACTUALLY LIKED HER BACK. Like yeah Haida thought she was cute but no one ever confirmed if he actually had feelings for her like she had feelings for him. The overall vibe I got from everyone was always a mentality of "settling for the easier option" which if the feelings aren't there from the start, it would have led to a more unhealthy relationship down the road, which would turn a seemingly perfect match into an unstable one. Especially since Hida's feelings would still be strong for retsko, it's hard to simply just go of someone who you've had feelings for 5+YEARS, even when in another relationship imo.

honestly i cant even say, ive been shipping haida x retsuko since season 1 and as soon as inui was introduced i hated her cause i thought haida might pick her over retsuko and i didnt want that to happen so now that i think about it inui was a good character but i just think she seemed too perfect. idk just imo. but yeah i'm happy with the s3 ending

We know she isn't afraid to take initiative. We know she conducts herself maturely and gracefully. Basically, she has her life figured out. Also, good at curry.

Personally I would have gone with Inui from the simple fact that she cooked for Haida 🤷‍♂️
