As someone who worked the customer service desk at K-Mart during high school, and when I'd come home for break my first few years of college, I gotta say this is SOOOO far off base. These customers are way too intelligent, kind, and patient than the real deal. From the guy who modeled the women's underwear sets he was trying on for my coworker, because he wanted a "woman's opinion", to the guy who returned a pair of incredibly used golf shoes, complete with scorecard, mini pencil, dirt, grass, and lady bugs in the box, oh the stories I could tell. But my personal favorite, the one that still keeps me up at night, was the old woman who came in the day after Christmas, the busiest return day of the year, with FOUR HUGE GARBAGE BAGS full of yarn she bought the week prior, because it was now .2¢ cheaper, and she wanted the price adjustment. This was late '90's, so we didn't have the same technology we do today, which meant, according to store policy, I had to manually type in the UPC code of each roll, type in the old price, type in the UPC again, and new price. There were about, no exaggeration here, 50+ people in line behind her by the end of the roughly 45 min. transaction. The grand total for all of it, about $7-8. The kicker is it didn't need to be that day, she still had about a month or two before it was too late. Man I shudder just thinking about it. Thankfully the customers behind her were pretty understanding, and most complimented me for staying so calm, as they were ready to go off on her. Good times!!

I worked for Dick’s Sporting Goods and I was a cashier. We did all the returns because we didn’t have a separate customer service. So we’d also have people return shoes that were clearly heavily used. Sooo ridiculous.

I worked at Kmart and my handheld scanner was broken so I had to try to hoist a 75lb bag of dog food onto my countertop to scan it. Not surprisingly, the bag busted open and there was dog food EVERYWHERE. One of my all time worst days in my retail career. I was probably 23 years old and was making like $7.25 an hour and living in an efficiency apartment thinking my day couldn't get any worse 😛

But cash 99% will always be the more opportune choice, seeing as it is legal tender in the United States and can be converted to other currencies...across the entire planet. While the store credit is ONLY valid within that chain of particular stores. Cause you said if you can do basic math, store credit is better....which basic math would say that they are equivalent, but CoD/CoH (cash on delivery/cash on hand) outweighs store credit at almost every point.
