Great review! It would be fantastic to have an original analog Echorec from the '60s to compare this one to! Hoping I'm wrong, but this sounds a bit like the Strymon El Capistan, which is too bright, and not "organic" like the original units from '60s. Looking forward to your upcoming vids. Cheers!

Thank you so much. I finally got a chance to play it side by side with an old one and those originals are just magic. There was a warmth there that you could get close to with this but it just wasn’t quite the same. This is still great and for a third the price I’m happy, but those old ones just fill a room with some amazing sound.

Deciding between this and the echofix Ef X2 (Roland space echo clone). If you had to pick between a traditional tape delay and this what would you go with?

If I could only choose one I would probably go Ef-x2. It’s just too good and has so many options. I use the rackmount one for easy switching between sources. But it’s amazing. This has a super special sound but I think the old space echo is just so versatile it’s hard to say no to it.

Good video. I want to reiterate for folks that don't read the comments or watch other videos about this product that you are supposed to clean and oil the drum (the oil is included) before first turning it on. Re: the unboxing part of the video -- thank goodness for fast forward 8^) .

Couple questions; Does this thing saturate like an OD like the re202 does? And does the expression pedal connection only control the disk speed instead of something more useful like feedback like the boss dd8 warp mode. I’m starting to lean towards the boss re202 if this is the case

So it can totally saturate if you want to. From what I’ve seen the expression so far only controls speed. I’ll see if there are any switches anywhere ;)

This is the only demo video that has impressed me so far, but it still seems a bit more modulated than might be useful for most recording situations. I'm also going to hold off because I've heard about some shipping damage issues and the fact that the parts are 3d printed and not fully polished/burnished in some cases. Since I'm halfway across the world, the shipping issue is the main concern.

Thank you so much. I totally understand that. I’ve heard about some of the issues with the heads and I think I may have dodged a bullet there. I know T-Rex seems to be working to fix that but with all the shipping issues lately around the world I totally get the hesitation. Mine was packed pretty well but that 3d printed head I could see being an issue. At 2100.00 I do wish they would have had solid parts made for that. Mine feel super sturdy but I have seen some of those reports online. I wish more dealers had them in stock where you could try one and make sure it’s perfect before pulling the trigger.

I see in another comment that you oiled this off-camera. Along with that, there is a process for making sure the play heads are correctly seated. If anyone decides to turn theirs on its side like this, you should repeat that process instead of just turning it back on immediately as is done in this video.

Apparently you’re supposed to oil it before you even run it so hopefully you’ve oiled it by now… I guess directions serve some purpose. You were worried, but not enough to follow the instructions.

Totally. I didn’t film it but I actually oiled it before we started doing the sound part. But the tutorial video that came out the following week was super helpful on maintenance.
