The more tech becomes embedded in daily life, the more grateful I am that I grew up at a time before personal computers and smart devices. Those were very, very special years.

People touch their smartphones every minute because they are lonely They jump at every sign that someone is paying attention to them Adopting modern tech will NOT make them any less lonely Just the opposite People need to return to analogue and minimalism We need to stick to the analogue and improve on it If you know what i mean

In many ways I hate my cell phone, in others I love it. I feel our phones rule our lives. My phone takes great photo's, it also supplies me with my work schedule, it gives me entertainment, education and an ability to read books and listen to music wherever I might be. I've recently returned to shooting film, rather than digital. My digital camera is pretty soulless, my 35mm cameras are mysterious and more challenging, saying to me, I dare you to use me. I come from the analogue era, when everything was slower, we had time to think, to create, I hate my mobile phone it does everything, including controlling my behaviour. Pet hate, for example, in a restaurant, waiting for food, what do you see, family on phones, not talking, not connecting. Great talk, many thanks.

I'm looking forward to going analog altogether. De-Digitalization. Amazing talk!

You're in for an eye opening experience. Film is expensive. Assuming C-41 color, Tetnal is expensive. You no longer have the option of 'delete' if you don't like the image. Film forces you to plan ahead with location, exposure, composition and hope, beyond hope, that you have 'good light'.

@@Tumbleweed1961These are all part of what is great about analogue, being more involved and respectful of the creative process.

The problem with the relationship between people and gadgets is essentially because of our western way of thinking (contrasting it with eastern) which makes us perceive these objects as separate from us. These gadgets are created with essentially the same matter as we are made of. We are literally the first of mankind to live with these objects in their physical form, let’s give ourselves some more time and be sympathetic towards ourselves. This whole discourse literally is grounded in the western delusion of control. Instead of resisting the general public should rather be taught more about the ins and outs of how this technology works. I personally don’t think an electronic engineer suffers these problems that the layman struggles.

I accept both analog and digital devices. But I think we need to accept analog more right now because I think digital devices are getting too much and screens kind of changes our behavior. It's really affecting my behavior as well. I'm Constantly on the computer, tv (with a streaming device plugged in), PS4, and iPod. But Thank you whatever, I don't own an iPhone or else. I want to be a filmmaker but I want to have more analog and less digital.

I always said carrying a cellphone was like having a ball and chain around your foot - never totally free when you go out on the town, etc,

Nothing wrong with computers and digital devices, but it's the internet connectivity that makes them truly a bottomless pit and addictive. I would like to cut down on it, but I'm digital junkie already. It may sound radical, but I think it's best to at least ditch the internet connection at home if you cannot contain yourself.

I had no internet at home for almost one year (just 2GB mobile data on my phone) and I felt so free. It was a really nice time. Of course some days were really boring, but no internet doesn't mean no technology. I still had some games for my PC. But the best about having no internet is that you are limited. You don't have the endless possibility of watching, gaming and so on. I sometimes went to a shop with free wifi, downloaded a few KZbin Videos and watched them at home when I wanted to chill. But even without phone there are still a lot things to do: reading, meditation, cooking, going for a walk, sports, playing card and of course talking to other people. I never talked so much with strangers like in that time. Social media is for connecting each other but it feels like it does the exact opposite.
