If you think about it, this movie really showed how vile society was in treating people with mental health issues. Dorothy was suffering from PTSD from the tornado/OZ.. and her aunt/uncle were going to send her for electric shock treatment.. which most likely would have fried her brain. Loved this movie when I was 5 or 6

It's true...even though we've progressed (mostly) past this kind of treatment there's still a million problems with how we deal with it today.

Fun fact about Tik-Tok, he is one of the very first robots ever created in literacy, having debuted in one of the sequels to Wizard of Oz, Ozma of Oz which was written in 1907. He’s actually referred to as “the prototype robot” and to get an idea of how old he is, he actually PREDATES the term of robot as we know it by 13 years. And with that in mind, and remembering that both Wizard of Oz and Ozma of Oz (as well as ALL the other original Oz books by L Frank Baum) are over 100 years old (the last sequel, Glinda of Oz was written in 1920), that means Tik-Tok, were he to exist in real life as he works in the movie, has already used up at least a 10th of his functioning lifespan! He’ll still be working perfectly for about another 900 years long after we die. Way to go. Tik-Tok!

It was actually based on two of the sequel books. The marvelous land of Oz and Ozma of Oz. The little blonde girl is this movie was supposed to be “Ozma” the true heir to the throne of oz but the witch turned her into a little boy and made him a slave. He escaped by creating jack with the life powder and building the flying couch thing. I read the whole series as a kid. My best friend and I were kind of obsessed with them at one point. This movie isn't terrifying. The way people talk about it, you'd think they were talking about Antichrist or Salo. I watched it between the ages of 7 and 9 and I wasn't remotely traumatized, just baffled as to why everything looked different from the 1939 film. Of course, I had also seen Gremlins and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at that age and loved them both.
