The sirens at 7:07 reminded me of an old factory me and a friend explored two years ago. We heard sirens which stopped _really_ close to our location so we assumed it was police and booked it, only to realise about 300ft from the building that there was a hospital maybe a quarter mile away from us and the sirens were actually _ambulances._ We even passed the hospital on our way to the factory.

The pipe with a loop is designed that way to compensate for thermal expansion so it doesnt crack and break from heat and pressure,

These seem to be nixie tubes displaying some numbers back in the days. You can vaguely see the number-shaped cathodes. The panel to the right had an LED replacement for that purpose.

I'm so happy y'all were able to do a full video on the plant after the previous situation with the alarm. The last time I visited New Orleans in 2017, I saw the smoke stacks from the top of some bridge going over the city so quite naturally I had to drive until I found it. I didn't try to find a way in as badly as I wanted to, but even just the outside of the building looks absolutely mental.

@24:11 the reason the generating tubes curve around is because thats were burners where. One hole for each burner and im assuming it was a coal fired plant. So pulverized coal would be blown through there and it would burn in suspension. The heavy ash would fall into a water trough and the lighter ash would go up with the hot gasses and out the furnace.

That scrapper was actually pretty cool even though I hate what they do and the mess they make. I was exploring an old US Steel research lab that is part of an old cement factory. I saw a yellow metal saw horse when we walked through the door but didn't think anything of it. My friend and I went through every room on all 3 floors of the building and never saw the guy. It didn't hit us until after we left the building that someone was in there. It's pretty creepy that someone was pretty much watching and avoiding us. The place has been caught on fire 3 or 4 times at that point and gutted/scrapped long before that's why we didn't think much of the saw horse. We basically thought someone else who was exploring found it and set it up

I remember taking a few photos of this magnificent decaying power plant back in 2016, when I had New Orleans as a home port for the ship I was working on as a photographer back then. As far as I remember, it was the Carnival Inspiration. I was temped to get a closer look, but I, too, noticed the alarm system. I am glad I can see now how this historic powerplant looks like on the inside. You are doing an awesome job.

Those are tubes in the condenser. Cool river water comes in through the tubes, and hotter water or steam is on the shell side. The shell side condenses, and goes back into the hotwell (storage tank that is used as make-up in the feedwater system).

I build and repair boilers for a living. The boilers are lined with tubes or what you all called “pipes”. The holes in the boiler wall are where the burners would have been. Coal is crushed into a fine powder and injected into those burners creating a flame to heat the boiler.
