Really enjoyed the longer video Luke. I notice you never get involved with replacing the manifold bolts, yet they are a common issue. I'd also like to see a vid on that and rear silencer removal, as that can also be a pig if a job. Also the replacement of the tandem pump on a 997 would be a good vid.
@friendsgreenporsche52343 жыл бұрын
Hi a1topdog. The manifold bolt heads are always heavily corroded, but they are still nearly always performing as they should (i.e are securely fastened to the cylinder head and are along way away from developing a leak of gasses). Therefore, although it would be nice to have lovely shiny manifolds under there, it isn't something that *needs* doing. I suppose it's much like the suspension dampers that you see us cleaning up a lot in the videos. The bottom part of the bodies are always surface corroded, but 95% of the time, the damper is performing as it should, and therefore, you're not going to replace the damper just to make it look pretty from the underside. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and we'll look into making one on the silencer and tandem pump "how-tos" Best Luke

@1968spikey3 жыл бұрын
Surely there's a fix for the self-cancelling indicator issue rather than buying a full Porsche replacement unit. As you say if it's a common fault then there's a demand for a repair over a replace. If it's the plastic cam then it could easily be reproduced by 3D printing - which must be more economical? Just a thought.
@friendsgreenporsche52343 жыл бұрын
You're right, it probably can be fixed, but I imagine it would require the investment of a lot of time to find the fix and a way to reproduce that fix efficiently. I can think of many other things that break on these cars that could do with a like-wise after-market fixing solution!

Hi David, you could certainly live with a 996 as a daily driver, but the English roads will take their toll on the underside of the car during the winter months. In an ideal world, if possible, I'd use the 996 as the daily from May-September, and then have a typical daily car through the winter.

I would like to see "how to" videos on how you actually do some of the common repairs. As an example, I have the bad bump stops on the front of my 997 and am wondering just how to go about replacing them. You wouldn't have to do a step-by-step tutorial, but if you could give a quick synopsis of jobs like that that would give a guy the overall gist of the job. I'm not a mechanic but would like to do all the repairs myself. You guys make it sound so easy! Awesome channel, thanks for everything!

Same request. Please show how bump stops are done. Assuming this does not need a realignment.

And if you could describe how difficult a job is, any special tools required, any follow up steps needed like alignment, etc., and if the job could be done without a lift like yours. I have a set of quick jacks which get the car about 2' off the ground. Also, what is the best way to clean the engine and engine bay and to keep it clean? Been using my pressure washer, but not sure if I'm on the right track! Thanks!
@garyw19713 жыл бұрын
Basically you have to drop the suspension and remove the shock. If you've not done it before and working off the ground it will be a massive ball ache. Its level 4/5 difficult for a novice. There is a tutorial on youtube for a 996 turbo.. black guy called Hightower.. might help but if it was me I'd pay someone else.. 👍

Hi Andre, I'll be honest with you; unless the car has sentimental value, you'd be much better off selling your car and buying a manual version. It will simply be much more cost effective. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

99 996 owner = bit stiff when cold but otherwise rifle bolt. Anything less is an issue, but not necessarily the box. Lots between the lever and the wheels.
@friendsgreenporsche52343 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. The gearboxes are generally really good in the 996s. The most common wear signs are 1. A whine from the gearbox itself, caused by a worn out pinion bearing. 2. A second gear "pop out", which is caused by the gear itself wearing,. 3. A second gear "crunch", caused by the second gear synchro wearing. I hope this helps.
@MrJohnnyRoyale3 жыл бұрын
@@kesterhewett1234 it’s defiant worse when it’s cold. The garage I bought it from did put new transmission fluid in for me, which I think has helped when it’s warm but has perhaps made it worse when it’s cold! I’m not sure I would describe it as stiff when cold though, and it isn’t across all the gears, just first and second seem hard to get in to when cold.

@@friendsgreenporsche5234I appreciate the reply, thanks! Interesting that you don’t get many problems on the 996s. Mine’s actually a 997.2.
