The Acros II did the church proud. One of these days they're going to repaint the church bright yellow and photogs around the world are going to have their hair catch fire 😅

really like the arch at 9:02 - that would make a cool massive print to see all the details. I actually prefer the low tide view as it shows more of the rocks up close. And great last image too! Much better than the teed up view that's been shot a million times.

Great video Chris. The Black Church is high on my bucket list and I'll live through your eyes until I get there myself. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful photograph and photography. Such a stark contrast of the icelandic church to those white washed north American ones that stand out against the blue sky. I was looking at the very same camera last year, but decided against it. I convinced myself that inserting the 6X9 back into my MPP MkVII was sufficient.

The stars must be aligned; this one showed up on day one. That Horseman is sweet. As for that Rodenstock, you sure got a purty lens! ;-)

In my opinion the Horseman VH is an overlooked camera, I have bought one two years ago because it fits perfectly to my needs, fantastic built quality, very low weight and in principle plenty possibilities for adjustment. A 65 mm. Is slightly tricky to handle but it works all very nice. It is very seldom that an experienced large format photographer decides to give it a fair chance ! Really looking forward to see you working with it! Kind regards, Arie Bood

Thanks Arie, I totally agree. It's such a cool little camera yet I haven't seen anyone shooting with them. Especially for travel, it was perfect for throwing in the luggage!

Very interesting video. The photos were wonderful & I appreciate your dedication to work in the cold. I am too used to the the heat & humidity to endure that. It is 9 pm where I live & 85 degrees.

Superb. Was just thinking of you over the weekend, and BOOM! Worth the wait, as always. I hope the Horseman has held up right through the trip, and you don’t have any teething light leaks or cable gremlins. Looking forward to the next parts. I’m trying to think where you’re transiting too, but sure it will be spectacular (and bet myself five bucks it’s Svalbard ;-) )

I was thinking we might have to get search and rescue out to find you, and then, viola. With a 6x9 Horseman no less! You must've known I've been gassing over the Fuji 690s. And now this. Thanks a lot. Exceptional images once again. Looking forward to both the next Iceland video as well as your next stop (I have an idea, but mum's the word).

Very nice Chris. I liked the BW shot of the arch a lot. The 14 mm shot of the mountain really surprised me. I wouldn't have expected you could recover the mountains size so well. That is a great trick to try.

Epic return to the vlogging. Great Arty photos. Canon R5 (jealous) ! Splashing out on new photo equipment I see did you get a few backs for the Horseman? Loved the black and white 'Stargate' photo with the detail in the archway 😁

Your last shot is quite stunning, I have seen many shots of this mountain but yours with the cracked ice in the front is probably the one I prefer the most. I do not remember seeing one like that, quite a unique view you caught

Thank you for the video since you have used both the film and digital, can you say something about the way you take the digital B&W and your process to match your film tonality , i am not satisficed with my B&W digitally.
@ChrisDarnell
@ChrisDarnell Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Sajjad, I certainly know what you mean. For the most part it’s really about getting enough contrast, in my opinion anyway. Its really easy for the digitals to look flat, so I usually find I need to set both a black point and a white point, in other words I bring the blacks down until nearly clipping, and same with bringing the whites up. From there it’s a case of playing with mid-tone contrast using either curves or the contrast slider until you get the balance you’re after.
