Ah yes the chosokabe experience I remember having an easier time with chosokabe since they're practically isolated on Shikoku island, but they're much closer to the capital than shimazu or date. One of these days I should play shogun 2.

Hey Serious Trivia, 1. I suggest after you conquer the island of Shikoku, I suggest you turn your intention on the island of Kyushu because the Satsuma has a Blacksmith to give armor for your melee units and Buzen has the artisan to give your range units more ranges and plus the island itself provide you with full access of the trade notes for more income. 2. I say at some point tear down the archery dojo in the capitol of Tosa. It dose not provide bonus to archer units except income and I say replace it with a market for more income. 3. I also suggest you don't bother with eager to serve to get generals, I say get a Market to recruit a Metsuketo bribe enemy generals with good traits or a cool portraits or model and I usually go for the ones with Masks on.

That first tip is exactly what I did on my current Chosokabe campaign. After Shikoku, I went straight for northeast Kyushu for the craftsmen there, as they let you create units with crazy high accuracy bonuses. Of course, it meant that once Kyushu was conquered, I had to spend a looooong time stamping out Christianity on the island, pretty much for the rest of my first daimyo's life, but it was fine as after Kyushu and Shikoku are taken, you're relatively safe from attack and can work on building an unbreakable money printer of an economy for the mid-late game. Especially if you ally yourself with the Mori clan, as I did (or whoever is dominant in the southern tip of Honshu).

Alrighty lets go! ah this brings back memory. just a historical tidbit for those who wants to learn more about Kunichika's descendant,as ST mentioned. he do actually had 4 sons, Morichika the eldest who would later inherit the clan and do great things for the clan,dominating the Shikoku island before the Toyotomi regime stepped in and rollback his hardfought gain. The secondborn Chikasada later adopted into the Kira clan under his older brother's order,spent his life loyally supporting Morichika,so its nice seeing the Kira retainer there very early at the campaign,its a nod to this fact,i like to think. The thirdborn Chikayasu got the same fate,adopted into another clan,the Kosokabe (not related to the Chosokabe,despite the closeness of how the name sound and written in alphabet) so the Chosokabe could fully pacify the eastern portion of Tosa province where the Kosokabe held sway there,he's the longest serving among the younger siblings,he even got the chance to fight in korea during Toyotomi's regime and last but not least,the fourthborn,Chikamasu. Same thing,he got adopted into the Shima clan of Tosa,they need a heir,Kunichika have spare son so there he goes. But,interesting thing about him is that his death become the pretext for Morichika to invade the Awa province. i think the Miyoshi held the province at that time am not sure,but the lords of Awa suspect Chikamasu as a spy and promptly caught+ executed him. Kunchika also had 3 daughters,the most notable one is married into the Motoyama clan,again,for consolidating their position within the Tosa province,the Motoyama are like very close in proximity from where the Oko castle are located,a stone throw to the northwest. They need a lot them consolidation since y'know,they usurped the Ichijo and all that 😆

I think you accidentally wrote the wrong name for Kunichika's eldest son, but otherwise all the information is correct. Motochika was Kunichika's eldest son & successor, while Morichika was Motochika's 4th son and successor

There are pre-battle dialogue as you know, but I agree fuller speeches would have been nice. Three Kingdoms faction leaders and certain generals do have speeches for their first battle or a battle against a specific foe, but it isn't universal.

I’ve been playing Shogun 2 since it was first released, and I still love playing as the Chosokabe. Like you, I love ranged units. Their starting location is very isolated, but near enough to the trade nodes to the west of Kyushu. If you start farming trade ships right away, you can snag a few of them and generate quite a bit of cash once they’re fully loaded. Combine that with the warhorse resource in Awa, and you can finance 2 strong archer-centric full stacks with melee infantry and heavy cavalry to support early into the campaign. From there, capture Buzen in Northern Kyushu and build the Fletcher (and upgrade it when available), and work your way south. Once you’ve conquered Kyushu and your Fletcher’s fully upgraded, you are unstoppable, and you’ll just steamroll across Honshu.

Agree completely, even the cavalry animations are glorious in this game. Takeda fan here. Diplomacy I fix with mods that change the caps and drift overtime to make the AI value trade a bit more and not be so schizophrenic.

In my opinion the most important skill to get for generals in this game is the one that gives you stand and fight, right in the middle of the strategist tree. Increases the melee attack of all your infantry units, and the stand and fight ability is just cool as hell

well and then there's the one that gives triangle formation for cavarly, which lets katana cav beat yari cav or the fear inducing skill that stacks with the earnable one (takeda shingen starts with tier 1/2 of this skill unlocked) if you give takeda shingen the tier 2 fear skill and then also develop his inherant fear skill to level 2, he can just ride across the line and shatter the entire enemy army HIS MUSTACHE BRISTLES WITH TERROR

Oh a Shogun 2 campaign from you. That will be interesting. Maybe we even get a Ikko Ikki one day... a the hopes ^^ Shogun 2 is my favourite and it really aged well, from enviroment to effects it still looks nice and I think the sound design is actually better than some of the modern day total wars. Shogun 2 wasnt just balanced, but it also had this great, I dont know, lets call it "vibe"? The generals speeches, the animation, the little videos when you send your Ninja to assasinate someone, all this little things add up and just create an nice" enviroment" when playing. 3 tipps that might hopefully help: 1. You get the economy slightly wrong. Wealth of a province does not equal your income. The wealth of a province gets taxed by a rate that decreases with the amount of territory you own (more territory = less taxes because of bureaucracy). Because of this "growing wealth" from ports, or the Rice trade is quite strong, because its the only wealth that is not "fixed", like Farming, commerce or industrie wealth and can have higher values. Over the long run, growing wealth of provinces will counteract the tax los from more territory to a degree as it can surpass it. With that said, having a food surplus will increase the wealth of every province +1 per food! Also Metsuke are the only agents, that will increase the tax rate of a province. 2. Your Daimyo and his heir are actually not good generals. As they dont provide special boni. The Daimyos honor above 3 increases public order, but thats it. Generals and Family members, that are not heirs actually can receive a special title, that gives boni like reduces unit upkeep for the generals army, less building cost etc. Someone with such a title at higher lvl is often more usefull than the Daimyo (sadly, one of the critics of Shogun I have...) 3. You used the rally skill at the siege of your castle, while being inside your castle. You dont need to. Shogun 2 had the more realistic system of sieges, where at the most inner Ringwall, your men wont flee. The Tenno (the little house in the castle) will be defendet with their lives, even if its just 1 Men left, he will stand and fight, as long as you dont send him out of the castle, outside the castle he will break and flee. The same goes for enemies as well. If a castle has more than 1 ringwall, a unit that has low morale will normally flee towards the Tenno.

When I played this game, no matter what clan I chose, I always ended up fighting the entire nation and the remaining clans after I conquered 1/3 of territory, and that's where I would give up after exhausted defending land and sea.

Master trivia, a few tips as Shogun 2 player: 1. Never even try to charge yari units with your cavalry, not even the wavering ones. Because the unit fights 1v1 after your charge, your cavs melt regardless. It is fine to break the last bit of enemy moral, but hammer anvil is a must, else the yari units are going to turn around instantly. 2. Shogun 2 range units are broken. If you turn on auto fire, the unit will auto select the closest enemy. If your melee clash, they lose angle of shooting and will stand still do nothing. The solution is to turn off auto after melee units engage, and manually select your target. Enemy archer, on the other hand, is always manual and they will prioritize your low-armor, most valuable unit in range. You can use general/samurai units as bait to trade enemy range.

The way to deal with archer units in defending sieges, pull your army back to the opposite side of enemy archers, AI archers will climb because they don't have the range. Then your yari-wall can slaughter those defenseless archers as they are forced to engage in melee

My favorites to play are Oda because the yari longspear walls are just insane, the Hojo cuz I like their start (gold mine ftw), Uesugi because using Warrior Monks is bonkers fun, and Mori - mostly because Motonari is one of my favorite warlords of the time.

You know you can "hide" the army in the trees, he may launch an attack seeing the Castle undefended. If you stay close to the tree edge you may even be able to spring a little surprise on him.

I would recommend mass bow ashigaru in the beginning instead of bow sam. 2x bow ashigaru for almost same upkeep of one bow sam, 240 arrows vs 90 and it compounds, 270 for 3 bow sam vs 720 for six ashigaru. You will obliterate early ashigaru army with that especially as chosokabe.

Shogun 2 is probably my favourite Total War, I always come back to it. The DLCs have the better economies and tech trees, but the classic maybe has better unit variety (but worse ships). Otomo is great fun, because Tercio's are borderline OP, and you get Nanban Trade Ships almost at the start.

Yes. Since each arrow is hit or miss with everyone at 1 hp. Accuracy is a very important stat in shogun 2 as it basically determines your overall damage.
