I have a theory on Susan Twist. I think Susan Twist is Susan Triad who also made Triad Technology, who might also be Susan Foreman because 'S. Triad' rearranged is TARDIS and who made the initials for T.A.R.D.I.S.? Susan, the Doctor's Granddaughter.

When it comes to the Monk what I like about the character is that they're basically a silly goose who's been given time travel, he ain't evil, just likes to have fun. Russell already wrote the Toymaker to be more in line with the Master and if this is the Monk I wouldn't wanna see him do the same, his comedic character is what sets him apart from someone like the Master. This is also not me criticising your interpretation in Echo's Return btw, just that in relation to the official show, well they hired Peter Bloody Butterworth to play the man on the 60s, I think to bring him back you need a comedic powerhouse to do it justice

Don't forget the Meddlin Monk appears in The Dalek Master Plan. Once on the planet Tigus, again in ancient Egypt and finally on an ice planet, after the Doctor stole the directional unit from the monks Tardis, leaving the Monk unable to navigate his Tardis, rather like the Doctor's Tardis.

The Monk had a misguided sense direction for a better Earth. He tried to help England defeat the Norman invasion because the potential for a better future was with Harold's armies being victorious.

If the Monk IS returning, it could explain why Ruby was left in a church for one thing. It would certainly fit. And if he IS returning, I hope he's working with the Weeping Angels. I'm sure they have crossed paths in the EU, but seeing them together on screen could be brilliant.

To add to my other channel's comment, personally I don't think the Monk is the One Who Waits, who the Toymaker refused to play with. I could see the One Who Waits as the Black Guardian or the Valeyard. Either fits with the notion of a powerful evil beyond the Doctor's ability to defeat, and both are long overdue a return appearance on screen. Who knows, maybe the Valeyard will return in whatever we'll be getting in 2038 for the 75th anniversary?

I really would love it to be the valeyard because it would finally bring him back and all the lines in new who about him would finally pay off and a lot of people would come back for it! I think it would be cool if the Valeyard was the big bad and the 14th and 15th had to defeat him together. Hopefully not bring 14 back too soon though lol

The Monk appeared in a Fifth-Doctor comic story in “Doctor Who Magazine”, in which the Doctor said: “You were the failed Time Lord we called the Time Meddler”.

Isn’t the meddling monk a time lord? It would make sense if that were true considering his Tardis was made “bust” and his time lord genetics would allow him to live for thousands of years

The last time we saw the monk in season 3, the Doctor breaks his Tardis so he can no longer pilot it to exact times or places, it would make sense that he would have to become the One Who Waits so he can predictably get back for revenge against the Doctor without the his Tardis randomly materialising somewhere dangerous. The triad could also be hinting the big 3 Gallifreyan founders (Other, Omega, and Rassilon), basically the Monk's way of leaving clues for the Doctor to reveal he (another timelord) is also around. Or it would be the third time the Monk's shown up in the show, in Season 2, in Season 3 and now. Also, on a sidenote, I never realised how similar the Monk and the Trickster are, they both wear robes and both make changes to the timeline, just with slightly different intentions and methods.

I had a theory re: Toy Maker popping back but it’s most likely nada, In blue Yonder, when DT throws salt down so ‘evil stretchy Donna’ can’t cross over b4 counting. DT makes remark to Donna about not mixing superstition with reality 🤔so close to edge of universe. The monk wasn’t that threatening. He was just another time lord. And we have seen him past 1066. He wasn’t that dangerous there either. Susan Twists character was present at a key point, when gravity turned to mavity. Is she behind the move to alter reality, turning it into a fantasy world? I took Gaudete as a reference to the very popular Steeleye Span version from the 1970s. I remember that one (still have the album). The character has obviously either time traveled or is immortal, so she probably loved hearing the old chestnut with modern instruments. If you haven’t heard Steeleye Span before you should listen. Not just to gaudete, some of the other songs were morbid fairy tales. And in the original script Steeleye span was mentioned by name.

Meddling Monk is far more likely than The TARDIS made flesh. The reason I think this is because of the amount of lore involved. With Doctor Who going international, there are going to be new viewers that don't know anything about the show's past. The Meddling Monk doesn't have a rich back story. He is one of those "Hey, I remember him" characters from Classic Who. New viewers won't feel lost or confused by a Monk story since it won't really matter if they have heard of him or not.

We already have two versions of Timelord from the evil temptresses Rani and Master both super intelligent and to add The Monk to them would be too repetitive

Wouldn't it be a similar and simpler explanation that this woman (Susan Twist) in different incarnations is from the New Who era, perhaps based on the Neal Gaiman female in The Doctor's Wife, TARDIS come to life in female form. Who could better stand behind the S Triad Technology Company than the anagram of S Triad aka:TARDIS as the female embodiment thereof? Who else is always with the doctor through time?
