There was no 1983 Corvette, in America anyhow! That was when they changed over from the C3s of the 70s, to the C4s, and while Corvettes were available that year, here in America, they were either titled as a 1982, or a 1984!

Ford also knew the value of exclusivity, and only built 4038 GTs over the 2005 and 2006 model years. Going a step further, in 2006 Ford offered the GT Heritage Edition (the example you see here is on offer with Broad Arrow at its upcoming Amelia auction). Only 343 GT Heritage Editions were built, all wearing the Gulf livery of the GT40s that secured victory in the ’68 and ’69 runnings of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

However while over 4000 units were planned built, I think they cut the Ford GT short by over 500 units due to the fact that they were losing money on every sale... Since it was a promotional car. Called a loss-leader, or a halo product. It was built on a shoestring budget out of bits and pieces of other Ford-related stuff and sold for a low price. So when they started to feel the effects of the financial crisis that lead to the collapse of the US car industry a couple of years later, they had already cut the Ford GT short.
