ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT MEET & GREET RECAP VIDEO! Got the phone call about 40 days ago that I needed to help organize and promote a special “Mortal Kombat” event in Nashville Tennessee on 7/24 at Game Terminal. You may recall my post about this arcade that got 135,000+ shares.
Today we had 6 guests representing 16+ characters that were all apart of MK 1-3. I had approximately 1000 ticket registrations for the event, and also personally hosted the Costume Competition and VIP Q&A Panel. All together it was a hugely successful event.
The in-house staff at Game Terminal is phenomenal. Patrick McKennon has assembled an all star cast of team members. Specifically his internal marketing team really took the lead on event registration, email blasts, printed collateral and overall logistics. Typically this would all be my responsibility, so having a huge local team to lean one was a huge benefit. Additionally the security staff, Game technician, Tournament Organizer and Streamer, and the bar staff were all 10/10. It’s all an extension of Game Terminal being a top, if not the top, Arcade Bar in the nation.
I learned a lot about the game from the people who helped make it including some fun facts about the real life gym in Chicago most of the characters worked at even while they were already famous as video game characters! Also it was Kano (Richard Divizio) who invented the catch phrase “Get Over Here” and it was Scorpion (Daniel Pesina) who was responsible for getting Jax (John Parrish) into the game. Daniel was the martial arts coordinator and advisor for the first two games, so when Katalin Ogrens brother, who was a fan of the game, walked into the gym in Chicago where Daniel worked, he “begged” him to “put his sister in the game” (because she was a super accomplished martial artist) and this is what led to Kitana, Mileena and Jade joining the roster in MK2.
Sonya (Kerri Hoskins) has been in 12 arcade games, she was also the cheerleader in NBA JAM, the cage girl and Mistress Helga in Revolution X, and even Maya in Killer Instinct.
Funny, I didn’t get a single autograph. Haha. I always forget.
