As a father of three, and a Navy Veteran, I am absolutely disgusted to hear that nobody stopped to help them. The only reason I can figure why people wouldn’t stop is because they were all inches away from the same situation themselves and whether it’s right or wrong self preservation kicks in. Even in the middle of the war in the Atlantic Ocean, German commerce raiders would pick up the crews of the ships they sank. There's absolutely no excuse to leave a family to drown on a lake. The early-1990s powersports market wasn't saturated with oversized, overpowered watercraft the way it is now. Everyone else fleeing for shore in four-foot swells with driving wind and rain at their back, was in the same situation: taking on water, barely able to drive against the conditions, and praying furiously that the next big splash didn't go down the carburetor. One light craft pulling next to another in that scenario just means the next big swell can stack the two boats. You get two smashed craft and twice as many dead people.

I couldn't help but tear up listening to him talk about getting caught in that storm and how no one would stop and help as he was trying to keep his family alive. I was in a kayak about three years ago, on a lake in Colorado on a photography expedition. I'd crossed the two mile wide lake, taken some still photos and some drone shots and as it was getting late in the afternoon, I decided to head back across the lake. There were a couple other boats on the lake, fishing. When I was halfway across the lake, I heard thunder behind me. There was a storm building, coming over the mountain behind me. Having spent a considerable amount of time in the Rockies, i knew how fast storms can form out of nowhere and become deadly. Being a mile from the nearest shoreline, I started rowing as fast as I could and within five minutes the wind and waves kicked up, and waves were blowing over my head. The boats on the lake took off at full throttle with one of them passing by me less than a tenth of a mile away while I tried waving them down. They never even slowed down. It took everything I had in me to keep that boat pointed in the direction the wind was going in order to keep the wind and waves from blowing me over. When I finally crashed into the rocks on the back side of the lake, the skin was coming off my hands from the oar. My 40 plus years of sailing experience is the only reason I'm still alive. If you're on the water and the weather turns bad, make sure you don't leave anyone behind!!

Hearing the owner's story of that fateful day 30 years ago, brought back memories of my childhood with my own father giving up his life vest for me to wear when things got "REAL" while on the Atlantic Ocean, over 50 years ago. My dad "Pulled a Rabbit Out of His Hat" and we made it back to the Marina that day, but it was a close one! WOW, what an amazing almost unbelievable story. All you guys show us what being a good neighbor and good person really means. It's all about the "golden rule" and living it out. Shout out to Hunter and everyone else for all the great video, the drone shots and really being able to make a great production of this story. Glad this family was willing and able to share this with us all here in this "YT" world. Thanks again Fab Rats and Merlins Old School Garage.

As a Utah boat owner and someone that frequents Lake Powell, I have experienced bad weather situations with my family that were really scary, but can't even imagine the stress they went through and no one offering to help as the boat was sinking. I can tell it was a very bittersweet moment for the family to dredge up all the bad memories, but also know there are great people out there that truly do care. Hats off to the Fab Rat and Merlin garage teams!

Not only is the bridge from London back to it's glory, but the BOAT is back to it's glory! Such an emotional story to hear. SO glad to see what you all have done for this family. It's been an amazing series to watch on both channels. The Fab Rat's and Merlin crews are truly special people helping people. We need more of that in this world. I hope the owners of the boat have more positive memories to make with it in the years to come.

No way in hell I wouldn’t have stopped to help it’s as simple as towing them to the ramp there is zero excuse for leaving a family with babies out on the rough waters like that.

As a former boat owner, I can easily condemn people for not stopping and helping. Helping people out is just part of being a boat owner. It may not be a written rule, but it is certainly part of the culture where I live. I have both helped people and been helped by people while on the water.

Great people helping great people. Its not about money , its not about profit or the bottom line. Its about learning , helping and being there for others. The only way man will survive. ✌

Certainly bought a tear to my eye with this story. Being a former First Responder I can relate to the story. I have seen these situations go really bad. The recovery of the boat, the tears from the gentleman retelling the story shows how bad it really was, the near tragedy of the whole sinking. The hand over. Everyone who had a hand in this story should be commended for taking the time to do this for this family. Bit shocked by how people just left them to deal with it though.

What a heart-wrenching story. Hard to believe that so many boats went by with nobody stopping to help. I’ve seen the waves kick up on Lake Powell during a summer storm and it can get very scary, particularly in a jet boat with so little freeboard. Well, I hope that the owners take the boat and create some new happier memories in it. Great story and kudos to Merlin’s crew and the Fab Rats for getting the boat back on the water where it belongs.

Wow guys, Talk about a heart ripping story of young parents out for a nice afternoon with their little ones and then having to fight for their lives. Just simply good people enjoying their toys from their hard work, and then suddenly watching their investment and dreams slipping away and making the split second decisions to protect their most important assets of all. I'll be honest with you, yes I cried listening to them relive the day, obviously good Karma has been watching all this time as they raised their children and continued on with life. What a blessing and what a gift, thank you Fab Rats for all you did and thank you for being such good quality people.

That is such a miracle that the Original engine is still able to run and perform after 30 years under 130 feet of water! You guys are so blessed and amazing to do what you do. I become a bigger fan every time I see another video of everything you all do. God Bess each and every one of you!
@ParklandFilms2 жыл бұрын
I think the fact that their son remembered at least one of those toys, absolutely incredible. At 18 months of age, he may not have been totally aware of what was going on, but he would have seen the emotions of his parents and that etched some of those memories in his mind. So glad someone upstairs was looking out for them that day, or this video would have had a much different outcome.
@SirFrag322 жыл бұрын
Such a crock. If "someone upstairs" was watching out, then why did "someone upstairs" allow the storm to happen? Why did he not guide the others to help them? Foh. These people survived because they got themselves to safety.

That is an amazing story! Glad everyone made it out alive. This whole thing is crazy from start to finish, the fact that you found the boat and brought it back and that the people were still around and their story and their love for the boat, it’s all just crazy!❤

My dad's jet boat is similar (different color). One night in a freak accident we got wood chips stuck in the drain without realizing it, holding the drain open and slowly filling up the boat with water. As he and I ran it around a point to the ramp at dusk the motor cut out and it wound up sinking unexpectedly. God was good. People helped. They got a boat with a winch and a rig set up, pulled our boat back to the surface, put it on the trailer and we were off. I'm still thankful for that crowd of people drinking their beers and just seeing what they could make happen with the tools that were available to them. Same as I'm thankful for this channel helping these people out after all those years. This was great.

That was beyond emotional. And the story including boats that passed them by while they were in danger made it even more emotional. If I was the owner, I am not sure if I could take it back knowing what happened on it last trip 30 years ago. 1 bad memory can wipe out all of the great memories they had with the boat. Guess we will find out. I am just amazed that after so much time on the lake bottom, the boat still floats and the engine, with just a basic cleaning, still runs and sounds good. Merlin, Ben, Paul and his family are definitely good people.

I am so glad I found this video when you guys first found the boat, and watched it come back to life again, I am an avid boater and grew up on the Puget Sound, have been in very harrowing situations myself. But to listen to the owners experience brought tears to my eyes. What a terrible day that was for them, I hope they take her home and give her a complete makeover and make it look like the day they had it before that awful day they lost it. What a great series guys, you all ROCK, I will be watching you from now on. Thank you for this great experience and reuniting the owners with their pride and joy. I only hope they will not feel like they don't deserve it cause they really do, the fact they all survived is truly awesome. and now their boat has been rescued and revived to live again on the water like it was meant to be.
