REUP- The Funkster takes on Ring Of The Hawk

This was quite a difficult episode of ROH. It was often a question of weather or not a match should qualify for this video. In the end I settled on PPVs and as many special shows as I could find. If I had included TV this video would of lasted day and night. So it's Terry Funk in ECW! Ring of The Hawk Season 2!

That Sabu - Funk barbwire match was the reason ECW never did another one afterward......where could you go violence wise after that? Plus, Funk almost died after the match due to the bardwire being wrapped tight around his neck, they had to cut him out. Sabu tore a huge gash in his bicep when he dove into the corner and Funk Moved. You can see Sabu wrapping his arm with tape quickly while Funk is about to give him a neck breaker. That barbed wire match was on another level of hardcore.

@@gsesquire3441 No, they mention it in one of the ECW docs that were made 10-15 years ago. Funk was so tied up in the barbed wire that it was around his neck. Anytime he moved the barbed wire tightened around his neck until they cut him out of it. Look it up.

Surprised you didn't mention at 35:00 that Sabu tore his bicep off his bone after doing that spot falling on the barbed wire. You can see as Funk sets up the neckbreaker that Sabu is taping his ripped bicep to his arm. He finished the match. One of the most nasty spots/botches of all time that isn't given justice by the bad picture quality, and Sabu's toughness.

Terry Funk and Ric Flair had the most brutal hardcore series that I ever witnessed. During the NWA era, Funk and Flair were feuding over the NWA Heavyweight Championship and had a series of three matches to determine the belt holder. Over a 2 week period, Funk and Flair fought hardcore, using ring entrance bells, chairs, announcers mikes, fire extinguishers, and chains on each other. Getting more bloody with every match, it culminated in an I Quit match. Flair took a Mike and literally peeled the skin back from Funk's forehead, screaming at him: "Say IT!! Say I QUIT, you sick bastard! " In an exhausted voice, he groaned "I Quit! " and the arena erupted in cheers, with Flair helping Funk up from what was left of the table and using his infamous bandanna to hold his scalp in place. One of the greatest wrestling matches ever!

Also the plastic bag spot in ECW was a tribute to Funk trying to smother Flair with a bag to start that feud.

What year did this part of their feud happen? They had a series of matches in 89 the culminated in an I Quit match then to, but there was nothing where Flair peeled back Funk's forehead skin......never heard of this. So I'd like to know what year this took place? They didnt have a feud any other time during any of Flair's title reigns outside their 89 feud. The I Quit match was on TV and Funk quit before Flair broke his leg.

Someone probably pointed this out by now, but i believe the reason Foley was wearing a WCW shirt (and also saying that the audience wanted a "scientific wrestling match") is because Foley was doing a "WCW sympathizer" heel gimmick. Basically turning on the ECW fans for being bloodthirsty and reprehensible (which... to be fair...) and saying how much better WCW was.

@DS_IndustrieZ
@DS_IndustrieZ Жыл бұрын
That makes sense, there's levels to the reception of a product... You Hate it You dont like it Your Neutral You just watch it You like it You love it You appreciate it. A lot of people like something but don't like it enough to spend money on it. Not just in wrestling , but movies, music , and in life itself. I always liked wrestling but never liked it enough to buy a ticket, the most I ever spent was 30$ on a used copy of smackdown shut your mouth for ps2 back in high school. If you truly appreciate a product you will not only invest in it because you enjoy the product. But because investing in the product contributes to the companies financial ability to produce more... Also ecw was majority ppv and VHS tapes so their money literally came from people willing to spend that money. Factor in the shit advertising ...well no advertising when they had a stint on TNN. Then it makes sense. It's a difference between liking it , watching it, and being a fan of it. Wow I just typed a whole book ...my bad lol

@@ricardonb6375 They were extremely good at exactly two things: they had a great entrance theme and they knew how to 'garbage' wrestle. They were basically tailor made for ECW. Much like how lots of other guys caught fire in ECW only to be snapped up and then failed by WCW and WWE, the Public Enemy were not really good enough to work anywhere else. I mean, the same thing happened with Sabu in WCW, and Mike Awesome and Justin Credible. Reality is, the Public Enemy as a team just weren't good enough to really do much outside of WCW; they were too late to be the next Nasty Boys.

The way Dory Funk stubbornly held onto that mullet in 1994, when there wasn´t a hint of hair left on top of his head, made me laugh! If there´s an all-time list for worst hair-do´s in the entire history of professional wrestling, his "Bald on top/Mullet in the back Combo" might just take it! He was an amazing wrestler and an all-time great in the ring, right up there with his brother, but he should have been self aware enough to know that at some point, you gotta give it up and if not shave off the rest, at least cut it down to where it doesn´t look that silly!

God sent me here I just reviewed 1993 ecw and wrote it down and my phone so I can remember most of it without watching anything. 1993 mostly sucked for ecw the matches were ugly. Sabu towards the end of 1993 was amazing!! Eddie gilbert cut the best promos till he left. Now Paul heyman getting in his groove ...
