you CAN do it!! you can always get a cheap ugly chair from a thrift store and practice so you understand how things go together. My first big project was a hideous green velvet recliner. Once you figure out the "magic" of how things go together and create the shapes, it all makes sense.

Well Done Neil...👌 Great Tutorial and Fantastic Final Result. Your tutorials thusfar have been a great help for my Upholstery projects here. Looking forward to the next one 😁 Warm Regards Alawhie South Africa P.S Quick Question: I'm currently trying a diamond tufted ottoman with tufting on both the top and sides (Square 1m x 1m x 50cm). It's quite large, so it requires fabric to be joined. I believe that it can either be joined by cutting the fabric along the diamond pattern at the edge and then sewing... But then there is also another method you briefly discussed in some of your previous videos in which there is no sewing used. Which is your recommended method in terms of ease of learning for a relative newcomer?
@faceliftinteriors
@faceliftinteriors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alawhie! Thank you so much, I’m so happy my tutorials are helping someone with their own projects 😊 With regards to the diamond tufting you’re doing...I would recommend that you cut the join to the shape of the diamonds as you have said (allow about an inch extra for folding your pleats) and then join the fabric by folding the fabric into place and stapling. I find it’s slightly easier to manoeuvre the fabric when it’s not sewn together on a box like that. This type of join is called a ‘van dyke’ join. There may be some more in-depth tutorials on KZbin to help you further. I’m planning on doing a tutorial on this in the near future as I’ve only briefly covered it before. Let me know if you have any further questions and I’ll help you the best I can! Let me know how you get on 😁👍🏻

@@faceliftinteriors Neil, thanks so much for taking the time to write a good response. Highly appreciate it, as its not common to see content creators responding in this manner on the platform. Probably won't be too long until you have much too many subscribers to respond to every message in the comments section lol. So I'm posing questions now while I still can. I'm moving on to adding the fabric to the ottoman tomorrow and will apply the aforementioned method that you have recommended. I did a headboard according to one of your previous tutorials on diamond tufting and the result was good, because the tutorial covered most of what had to be known. It was a small one nevertheless and therefore never required any joining of fabric. I look forward to your formal tutorial on the 'Van Dyke' method when you have the time to get to it. I've watched other KZbinrs and read many tutorials on other upholstery related matters, but your content absolutely stands out from the perspective of teaching in an easily digestible manner for somebody who is entirely new at this. Have a good day. Cheers Alawhie South Africa

Hi Alawhie! Once again you blow me away with your kindness, it’s really appreciated. You don’t often get people who say such kind things on this platform either so I make sure I show that it’s appreciated 😊 I will try my best to answer as many questions as I can as a lot of what I know is either self taught or learnt from watching other upholsterers so I know how it feels to be a novice and trying to learn the craft! It feels great to know that I’ve helped at least one person with their own projects as this is why I started this channel! 😊 I think it’s going to be a long while before I’m inundated with comments (if I ever get there! Lol) so ask as many as you like! Thanks again Alawhie 😊👍🏻

Great video! I’m reupholstering sofa and client doesn’t want piping. Original has piping. I’m having trouble getting the line where the piping would have been on the front of the sofa to look flat. It shows little ripples where I’ve stapled the cardboard strip even tho I add new blue foam after that. Staples along foam and cardboard strip seem to be where the little ripples occur. Any advice please?? Could I just glue the blue foam and not staple? I’m so glad to have found your videos!!

@faceliftinteriors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! Thank you so much for watching my videos - it’s really appreciated! Are you stapling along the very top of the cardboard strip? As sometimes if you don’t staple along the very top, when you pull the fabric down, it can cause ripples.

Hi Karen - is the cardboard strip kicking out at all along the bottom causing the ripples? Are you using half inch blue foam too or quarter inch?
@karendevelle4493
@karendevelle4493 3 жыл бұрын
@@faceliftinteriors Hi again! So one of my reps was here and said 2 things....the cardboard strip was too thin and I needed the heavier one. Also, my staple gun wasn't sufficient enough to do the job right (which I had kind of thought). I worked in a shop for the past 2 years where they had all the proper tools and supplies and am just getting my own shop going, so having to learn what I need. I have now ordered the Maestro Electric Upholstery staple gun; I have the heavier cardboard strips, and yes I am using 1/2 " blue foam. After I get me new staple gun I will let you know if (hopefully) that solves the problems. The other staple gun was just a hardware store model and besides the staples being too thick, it wasn't sinking them in properly. As the saying goes "you have to have the right tools for the job"!!!

Hi David - thanks so much for watching and for your comment 😊👍🏻 fabric I buy directly from fabric suppliers - I have accounts with lots of different suppliers so I can buy their books to show customers their ranges and they choose what they like. Examples of fabric suppliers I use are ‘Ashley Wilde’, ‘Warwick Fabrics’, ‘Clarke and Clarke’, ‘Romo’ but you can buy upholstery fabrics online too! Materials I use a company called ‘Livedale’ - which is an upholstery supplies company.
