The story is seemingly about a prince and princess of two war torn countries. As children, they meet eachother while the countries are at their worst without knowing the truth of the other one's status. They become friends and make a promise together. As they grow up, the now king and queen have seemingly forgotten their childhood and are now fighting in the frontlines of the war. Soon they end up crossing blades and recall their childhood, and start to question why they must fight. Whilst crying they promise to continue the duel until their childhood promise is fullfilled. ( This is for anyone who is confused. )

I think this story is about two kingdoms, The Blue one representing light and The Red one representing darkness. The Prince of Dark becomes friends with the Princess of Light and over time they fall in love with the other, Yet there's a raging war between the two kingdoms separating them. When The Prince of Dark loses his Father he ascends to the throne and makes the war more brutal than it already was. He runs into his love on the battlefield and wants to save her but the war prevents them from not fighting each other.

@@artemisia5663 It is. But in mistletoe it was seen from the perspective of their parents. And we seen the prelude, which was the marriage and assassination. And in ruined kingdoms it's from perspective of the kids. They made a promise to be together but mature reality made it impossible because they had duty towards their people over all. So they fought each other. And also it's not like the blue are good and red evil. this is a common misconception. Remember that most of these song/stories have a twist at some point. It's more likely that blue represents the royal pride and red is honor and emotionalism. Blue is represented by a bird. Let's say it's an eagle. It represents pride. Red is fire. Fire is lively, emotional and it's warmth can be dangerous and protective at the same time. Both fire and a bird can be beautiful and dangerous. So both sides are neutral. More to that we can see that in Mistletoe blue queen is not terrified by the assassination. she is terrified because of the moment which is death. Afterwards she turns around and simply walks away. It's a constant power strugle of neighbouring kingdoms. Prideful blue kingdom just wanted to gain an advantage but the queen didn't realise that red king's son is also gifted with power of revange. The whole point of this song is to show that love and childhood dreams and promises can't survive the brutal reality of life and thus their love can't stand as they must continue the game of power. When at the same time they could marry and connect the kingdom into one but they are different. And difference can't be overcome whatever they'll do. one is red and one blue.
