Hi, don’t believe everything that people tell you, do your own research. I put in the same type of treated pine decking 30 years ago in NZ and it’s perfectly OK with the groves on top. The advantage in having the groves on top is that in the wet you have better traction and you are less likely to slip. The timber is treated for outdoor use and will weather just fine. Don’t water blast it as the weathering will get worse due to the timber “roughing up”. Just stain and seal the timber and keep up the upkeep every few years. Cheers mate. Harera

That’s exactly what we did and then read the comment and got really worried as there are also many blogs stating it’s side down. You can find answers both ways online 😂 It makes so much sense to do it that way.

In Belgium, Holland, France and other countries there's what is called Repair Café ; on a voluntary basis, some "experts" help people to repair instead of throw away and buy new. I'm a sewing expert, I go there once per month with some other experts and we "save" some stuff. The door is amazing ! Well done you
@TheIndigoEscape2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ornella! That's an amazing idea. I wish more of that came along. Here in Portugal people seem to be really into reparing. Hence why youAlways loved giving a second (or third, or fourth) to things. Turning old clothes to pillows or cushions. Repairing doors, repainting an old mirror. It's so satisfying to give love to something and make it more yours. It's not material attachment but a diminishing consumerism. Thank you for watching :)

Wow Omar and Andrea, that window is beautiful... that wood underneath, and the door, wowww spectacular. I am always amazed at how "inexpensive" fixing a car here in 🇵🇹 on average is, that is, as long as its not a Jeep a Jag or Mercedes, because just parts alone will set you way back, but compared to US costs; a pittance! For locals it is more complicated and expensive, but €335 was a deal for all they did. Next time do the inspection yourself. A breeze and cheaper but needs scheduling ahead of time. Glad to see how you guys are coming along just great. Keep up the great work. Cheers! 🤗

@@TheIndigoEscape I laid mine with grooves up two years ago and it’s still absolutely perfect, plus I’ve always believed the grooves are for grip when walking on them. The reverse of my decking boards/ the ‘smooth’ side has a finish that doesn’t look nice and the edges aren’t rounded off like on the grooved side, as well as having factory printing marks on it. You’ve definitely done the right thing 👍🏼
@jayhowie71786 ай бұрын
In their case, being covered it's probably OK, but groves down is the normal practice. Reasons why are that groves up retains moisture and accelerates rot, groves down helps to stop water running and sitting on the bottom of the boards. Grip is not really an issue on the "smooth side", no more than say, a paver stone or concrete
@AshFromEarth6 ай бұрын
@@jayhowie7178 People are welcome to do what they like, but I entirely disagree. The grooves are a machined aesthetic finish and the underside is unfinished. The point you made just sounds like something that someone made up and people believed it for some reason. How much water do you really think goes through the cracks and somehow covers the underneath of the boards and then just sits there? Ridiculous.
