Rev. Wilkins and his previous incarnation, Robert Wilkins, should always be revisted. I don't do it often enough, but am always grateful for the invitation. So, thank you . . .

After finding this treasure trove of praise and worship. I believe the people who lived in those times left this treasure to give us who are about to experience trials and tribulations a beautiful reminder of why we must endure. Jesus is coming back soon, very soon.

I'm not a religious person but I love these Gospel Blues Songs. I love the early recordings of Robert Wilkins so much but these later recordings do also have their own special merits. I recently got a memphis blues box set for my collection with all the early recordings of robert wilkins, furry lewis, allen shaw, little buddy doyle, gus cannon, and dan sane/ frank stokes. Highly recommend!

thanks, Nudge. these kinda songs cut through all the boundaries of religion. And great recommendation. more than all right.

I just keep coming back to your YT channel. For a few years now i've been playing solo shows, just voice, harmonica, suitcase drum, and home made wooden tambourine beater pedal. The longer i play blues the further back i go, and the more stripped down it gets. THANK YOU for posting these rare gems of spirit 🙏
@TheBWJohnson4 жыл бұрын
ain't nothing like the real thing. and it seems the reverse is also true to what you say- that the further we get from the start - the more fake emotion takes the place of the real. don't they know you can't fool anybody. so THANK YOU for your kind words and keeping the spirit alive because we need that kind of feeling more than ever.

@@TheBWJohnson I remember our initial conversation... guess on reflection I like and dislike in equal weight who I was then, but it was who I am now and forever... just choosing a different way to express my concerns. Omitting a long conversation.. always YT public now... I'd like to say how glad I am... to have crossed paths with you. I don't visit the blues [grass root blues... or BB King blues] very often. I go to folk or songs with titles that draw me in and KNOW as I love music in all its forms... I'll side-track and enjoy :) For a while and even now... you have done more for BWJ and his deserving 'ilk' than a headstone can/could ever do... ty x

@@trw5653 from the depths of my soul, thank you. and remember that the blues, at least for me, stretches across genres and that Townes Van Zandt is as much as the blues as Lightnin' Hopkins and more so than BB. anything that goes deep but all says in some form that 'you're gonna make it somehow' with feeling seems to fit. and that goes for people too so i hope your "rants" are still part of that expression you didn't leave behind and this channel is here for the next side track.

@@TheBWJohnson It'll be a sad day when I stop passing through one of your 'shares' that has been a constant in my 'thinking' times usually when I choose to disregard all health warnings re what is good to live a long and healthy life :) A long and healthy life cannot compare to a short and meaningful one... which in a strange way your shares highlight. Could many of the causes these days compare to that with which these songs evolved from? World politics has a big carpet and a bigger broom to sweep them under [methinks] / I'm not melancholic because it's Christmas... it's because I live in each moment and am glued to a past I never belonged to :) A lost soul but I truly believe a good one still trying to find her way. You seem to be an inherited 'old soul' no matter how big the divide and I am still forever grateful. I have acquired a taste for the rejected Jack Daniels... but only when combined with an Irish cream twist. The true Irish we once spoke of is for guests or quiet moments of contemplation... both of which seem harder to find as opposed to just falling into :) I'd like to hear this again... I find it hard to hear my mum at times... her words were hard but true as were her actions... her music was insular and contained though very beautiful too. My dad counteracted that as he just wanted to live life to the full. I got an education from them being so different and am forever thinking of them and wishing I could have expanded their own lived experience in music as both gave me that lifeline that only music has provided to so many :) I'd like to go to an old favourite now and 'take the night off'

I think this was from Newport 1959-1963.I had this ,but some thieving Magpie took it and never brought it it back.

I believe this is from a 1968 concert at Overton Park in Memphis, he played with Bukka White, Furry Lewis and 106 year old Nathan Beauregard, I have the album around here somewhere. I've been doing this number for about forty years, it's in open D and he just rocks between the one and the four it's easy to swing this driving groove easy vocals line, if you have a harp, tambourine, bass and washboard this gets people pattin there feet, which is the goal.
