SuperDan !!’ Love your vids and I miss your Destiny videos. Used to watch you pretty often. I am looking to put these coilovers on my 2017 Acura ILX. Glad you suggest them cause a lot of mixed reviews from what I have seen. I trust your review so I’m going for them. Hope all is good with you and try Destiny 2 again, I been playing since D1 launched. How much would you think the labor would be to have these coilovers installed ? I know it could very by location but just a ball park.

Ya the problem with the negative reviews are people expecting to pay $500 and get the best coil overs on the planet..... That isnt how stuff works, things are more money for a reason & people need to understand you get what you pay for. The coil overs have no issues, they just dont offer as many features as other coilovers like BC which are over 4x the amount of money. If all you want to do is lower your car and dont mind taking a little extra time to adjust them manually to get the ride you want, then they are great. If all you want to do is throw them on the car and spend 10 seconds adjusting a few settings and you think its worth paying $2000 for that ease of use, then ya BC is better.

Thank you for making an honest review video. Wish I could saw your video before I got mine. I recently bought these coilovers for the my 2014 Scion xB “my daily driver” . I agree with you 100% . The springs rates and dampening aren’t that great. I’ve adjusted the dampening many times to get it to ride “decently” but still it gives off a bouncy ride. Ive seen other videos of people saying these are “solid” coilovers and that was enough convincing for me. I should of saved up more and spent the extra money for a different brand. I can honestly say they did make my car look good though and for the price and you can’t have high standards.

if your's is bouncy, usually that means the spring rate is too firm for the amount of damping provided from the shock absorber. But from what I gather, these are not the highest spring rate but still stiffer than OEM. I have a 2005 Acura TL and I just emailed advan racing, and they said for my car, the Spring rate is 10kg/5kg. And that is not the lowest, nor is it the highest spring rate that I have seen for my TL. So in general, these coilovers do not have the highest spring rate which would cause a lot of bouncing. So maybe the shock is not damping enough?? I think even a 10kg spring for my car would Bounce IF I put an OEM type shock absorber on my car.. Those have a low damping rate. So you end up bouncing a lot. Also, if you lowered your car to the ground, that may also cause bouncing. These coilovers are likely for mild drop only BUT they provide a better ride when not lowered too much. But I assure you 1 thing.. If you buy another brand, and drop it low, it will bounce too! And it will ride horrible! BC or not!

Hey great video! I had a question maybe you can answer or at least give me some advice on. So I have the rev9 coil overs for a dodge charger 2019 rt and it is great up front adjustability is perfect. But the issue is the back of the vehicle the back is pretty slammed causing negative camber even though the coil overs are set to the max height. I have stock tires and rim size and have spoken to rev9 customer support and they were kind enough to send me free larger springs, but I know the springs aren't going to make much of a difference. do you have the same issue on your scion? from the video it doesn't look like it, but maybe you did something?

I daily my car and have had lots of people say they are comfortable..... Until I stiffened the springs, but from the factory they are great coilovers for a daily car. Once you start tightening / compressing the springs or maxing out the damping they become stiff. But any coilover will be that way if you adjust it to be that way. @@DanDoesCar I guess I should have said pretty close to stock ride height. I'm mainly needing something that could be closer to a half inch. I just don't have much clearance left because of the rim sizes I have. There's a little bit of wiggle room but I have to have adjustment. I may not be able to go full inch. Mainly to have the possibility to change drop in the future when I swap to smaller rims but I want it to be drivable until I do get them. Mainly just looking for the option of stock ride heights or an inch or a little more in the future drop. For the time being I need a little mixture of both so I was hoping that I could adjust these up to stock ride heights temporarily until I can afford my new rims. I'd be lying if I said I knew that answer..... Given that the new model has new body lines, I would guess that the answer to that is no. I did see some posts on reddit about using the 1st gen coilovers on the 2nd gen, but that isn't mechanic advice. So you would have to call the company and ask that question because I couldn't find anything online about that.
@CharlesNam
@CharlesNam 2 жыл бұрын
Compressing the spring does not make them stiffer, it merely gives it more preload and it may give you a temporary sensation of a stiffer ride if there isnt enough droop. Good thing about coilovers is that if you do want to change springs to an actually stiffer spring, you can always swap them out yourself quite easily. Source: Im a coilover engineer.
@DanDoesCar
@DanDoesCar 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that tbh..... My car certainly stopped rubbing after tightening the springs with the same ride height. Does tighting the springs change camber? Just not sure how I'd rub nonstop and then stop rubbing after tightening the springs.
@CharlesNam
@CharlesNam 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanDoesCar So to keep the same ride height you must have tightened the spring by x amount, and then wound up the lower mount by the same amount to compensate. Generally that should not remedy any issues related to rubbing, rather it could worsen it if you shorten the strut via the lower mount to compensate for higher ride height caused by more spring preload. Shorter damper = shorter length at full bump = less clearance in your wheel well. I don't have much info about your setup to comment how you could have ended up getting rid of rubbing issues tbh. Only thing I can think of is that by winding up your spring, you have limited the available spring travel, so that your coil springs bind before the tires start rubbing your wheel arches. But that would mean you'd get thumping impacts coming through the whole chassis if you hit a big enough bump or trough, so I'm only guessing here. Coilover springs for GT86s tend to be quite short (short springs = limited spring travel to begin with) so that's a possibility. Tightening the springs does not change camber either. So the above is all I can think of right now. But just remember this: an 8kgf/mm (or 440lbf/in if you like) spring will always be an 8k spring no matter how much preload (tightening) you give. i.e. same stiffness. This applies to all but the progressive springs, which are very rarely used in coilovers, that do stiffen up as you compress them. 99% of coilover kits you get have linear (not progressive) springs, but some are falsely advertised as being progressive either by people with little knowledge or by people who aim to deceive.

Low key, the companies that make Great Value brands from Wal Mart are the same companies that make the original products too. General Mills makes the Honey Nut Cheerios and great value version, Honey Nut O's. Blue Bell makes their ice and some of the great value brands🤫 So really it's just two different prices for the same thing made by the same people. So Rev9 is basically Godspeed with a different name/look🤡

BC are awesome, they just cost 3x the amount of money. They are better than rev9 though if that's what your asking. TEIN I have never heard of

how are they now? blown yet?
@DanDoesCar
@DanDoesCar 8 ай бұрын
They never ended up blowing, but after 4 years they were too rusted for me to adjust to lower the car again after winter was over. So I had to get new set. I always had to lift my car for winter & for it to pass inspection. Exhaust comes with silencers, so passing inspection with that is easy. Camber and Low car was pain in my butt lmao

@@ohsnapzitzmeng I would have, but as a creator, making a video on the same thing is pointless, so I got these kzbin.info/www/bejne/Znqoq5WnoLGJr5I Only did that to make a video on a different product. They are both good, but the new ones I have only had for a little less than a year, only complaint about them is they make a wierd noise going over bump, almost like its an air shock. No rattling or anything, just wierd puff noise, idk how else to explain it lol

Hows the ride quality compared to stock?
@DanDoesCar
@DanDoesCar Жыл бұрын
You can adjust the damping on the coil overs.... So it depends how you set them up, so it really depends. Tightening them they still feel comfortable to me, loosening them makes it an even softer ride, but I tighten them all the way. Comparing it to a Civic or something the comfort is horrible. But you cant really get performance from a floaty suspension. Hard question to answer tbh, really depends on how you set them up
