Revamping Oka Ruto from Yandere Simulator

Hey Callimaries~ Just wanted to say that I am aware Satanism is a real religion and that practitioners don't actually worship satan. I wanted to clear up that my mention of them was not negative in the slightest, and all I intended to say was that Yandere Simulator poorly depicted what appeared to be a satanic ritual, which is a practice in Satanism that some Satanists perform. Hence why I said the club has no understanding of what they're doing. I also want to thank people for letting me know that the pentacles/pentagrams are also used in Wiccan practices. Either way, I felt that Yandere Dev not only poorly represented the occult by blending in several different practices together but also ignorantly transposing it onto a culture with its own beliefs and views of the supernatural.

I feel like the alternate more Japanese accurate “occult club” would be more of a “supernatural research club,” where they go to supposed hunted areas, and looking at the the 7 wonders of Akademi would actually make sense. While kamis and yokai are deep rooted in Japan’s culture, the belief of ghosts in their most universal term is more questionable. They would still be odd balls due to their deep interest in ghosts and local supernatural rumors, but it’s exactly what you would expect from a Japanese club that deals with “occult-ish” things.

i feel like yandere sim should be about yanchan discovering feelings and emotions from the rivals and not senpai, like yeah they're can be an ending where she kills all rivals to get senpai but there's soooo much more lore that could be implemented. it reminds me of like dating sims with multiple suitors but the rivals would be good friends that teach her how to be a human being and feel real emotions without needing senpai's validation. it would be such a more in-depth interesting game.

Exactly, that sounds amazing! Unfortunately Yandere dev wants a girl who only devotes all her time to him. He doesn't understand how relationships work because I guess he's never been in one so he wants a partner who's basically going to worship him and only care about him and nobody else. Hence why Ayano only cares about Taro and will do anything for him, also he's the only one who "brings color and emotion into her world."

It'd be a absolute twist if the game followed a storyline of her leaning how to learn these emotions and how to handle when she doesn't feel emotion and when you get to the ending of the game you can reject senpai, or accept his love. It'd be cool if under the cherry tree senpai asks you out and if you reject him. You not only break the yandere cycle and the obsessive love that her family goes through, but you also break the cherry tree rumor cycle. If you accept his love, you continue the cycle, and the rumor is shown as tree. Which would be a bad end, which could lead to the rivals you made friends with dying?

Fun fact, actually. It's entirely possible to use art in one's spiritual/occult practices, whether it's for actual spell work, devotional pieces for deities, or anything else one can think of, so Niko's sketchbook could technically also be her grimoire/spellbook if she wanted it to be. Other forms of art like writing, music, fashion, sculpting, and even cooking can also be used in this way. There's even an entire method of divination known as shufflemancy which involves creating a music playlist, shuffling a number of times, and then drawing messages from whatever song starts playing when you stop shuffling. Witchcraft can incorporate basically any other hobby somebody might have. (I've never had 1k likes on a comment before?? Thank you! ;w;)

Suggestion: in trying to get Himari to explore herself we get a mock date with Nico, who things our identity struggle at first may be the same thing she went through. where at the end she tells the player that her thoughts and feelings are valid and if himari needs a hand then not only is nico available but she’s managed to gather a few others for a pretty close support system, re emphasizing that you’re on a good path.

I have an idea though it's a little silly. What if after you friend Niko, maybe the main character can take an "interest" in writing and ask for help from Niko by telling her a story that is closely related to the rival/problem she is facing. This could help a player (and be a WAY better info-chan cough cough) in case they are lost. It also can teach a lesson of hobbies which could be good for the main character's sanity or well-being.

I once said this in a conversation with my friends, The whole game takes place in a "japanese" school based in america. I don't mean canonically, but its truly so Americanized. @@boo_blue_boo9229 In this story, though, as our protag befriends the rivals it slowly let's her realize that isn't healthy, and eventually at the end go to therapy willingly and get help for her obsession. She could very easily realize that Senpai wasn't a romantic interest but instead just the host to her obsession, due to him being truly kind to her being mixed with her disorder. So, I believe her confessing to a rival instead of Senpai can make sense, as she could easily lose the romantic interest she had with Senpai, again, as she healed and got help with her obsessions. Like, one rival (who you'd confess to) was the most active in being there for our gal which led to the romantic, instead of obsession, interest.

Someone's gotta write a whole story for this on AO3, personally I'd only read the good ending but that's just cause I've gotten bored with Dev's murder stuff. I want Himari to be friends with everyone. And honestly I hope once you are finished with revamping the rivals, you draw a piece that has like everyone chilling together as friends, whether at a coffee shop or maybe at a park and its after she's had therapy so they're all a little older but they all still care about her. I am obsessed with her having a family of just close friends right now. I've been reading too much found family.

Given the fact that Himari's parents straight up abandoned her when she was first in the psych ward, the found family angle would be great for her. She is currently living with relatives, yes, but she probably doesn't really connect with them at all, so this would be wonderful for her to find a family among the girls and Seiya. Maybe she and Seiya can even be roommates with a couple of of them once she's stable enough mentally. ^^

It would be really COOL if you did an ending redesign. Like you make an outfit for all the characters and put them in a scene together where the prompt is the specific ending youre doing. Example/prompt: *befriending rivals ending* after befriending all the rivals and convincing/manipulating them into not confessing to Saya you all become quite good friends, everyone meets outside school in casual/prefered outfits, maybe going to a bakery or getting a tarot card Reading, etc.

I thought of more prompts :) = *everyone dies and Senpain and Yanchan has 0% sanity* yanchan only worked on killing, never once stopping to talk or comfort Senpain. His sanity slowly spiral downhill. Feeling cursed Senpain refuses to talk to anyone, he becomes Even more closed in to himself. Saya quits the martial arts club, he doesnt want the members there to die either. He keeps quitting doing stuff until finally he quits school. Feeling hopeless again yanchan searches for him, but he is No where. Yanchan gives up, finally, she attempts suicide but fails and is back in the mental facility. She finally found him, he lets No one get close to him. Game sequel where we try to comfort Senpain...? *killing everyone but talking with Senpain* senpain goes insane, you're the only one he has left and he doesnt want to lose you. Senpain starts manipulating and killing, for you, he doesnt want anyone to Hurt you. Senpain stalks you, only to find you threatening someone to stay away from him, senpain is charmed as his sanity is already beyond saving. When you meet him at the cherry tree, before Even getting to confess, he kisses you. He tells you to always stay close, he Will not lose you too.

While we're on the topic, I want to share my Oka and Occult redo aswell In my version, the Occult club isn't really an Occult club and more of a Tea Ceremony club, here, Oka and her clubmates serve tea and cakes as they talk about anything relating to the Occult. They may read fantasy books together, perform rituals, do tarot readings, or just have fun talking about anything they want. Additionally, they'd take on a more elegant fancy appearance like goth monarchs basically yeah that's just my concept lol, feel free to share your own ideas of the occult aswell (also if you'd like more info i could share where i post updates)

Maybe instead of Ribaru being a paired item with Osana, she could be Oka's secret girlfriend? It would make a lot more sense to have Ribaru further into the game as an "obstacle" rather than with the first rival, and she would be seen as a problem to the murderous players, but a cute protector of Oka from bullies to the pacifist players.

While I think that could be interesting, I think the consequences of doing that should completely ruin the player. For example, if senpai saw his friend get outed he’d become instantly disgusted with whoever did it and if he heard any rumours or found proof it was you, it’d lead to a bad end. If anyone in the student body found out, even though they’d respect the decision, the rumours that they spread would reach people who don’t and they would warn senpai or future rivals about you. Outing people is a very real issue so if it was (obviously hypothetically) included, the player should be guilted as to not show this as a good thing to do

Man I looooove this story. It isn't about Senpai anymore, it's a girl's journey of learning the value of relationships, taking care of her mental health, finding her identity. You can chose to see the other girls as rivals or allow them to change Himari's life for the better. You took this game that's basically a shitpost full of misoginy and a weird guy's fantasies sprinkled with awkward dumb japanese tropes, and turned it into such a wonderful tale with a great message, especially for women. Also love how the choices aren't just the killing method or rival riddance method, but real choices with good or bad consequences. I'd pay to see it turned into a real game, imagine this story brought to life by crazy graphics and gameplay ? I would be such a huge fan I would make it my entire personality lol

I know this probably doesn't matter much since these are mostly western ideas, but the pentagram isn't just a symbol of Satanism. It is a very prevalent symbol within the Pagan faith which often deals in the occult. So while it is prevalent in Satanic worship it also applies to more than just that. This probably doesn't mean much in terms of the redesign because Satanism and Paganism are more western ideas, but just wanted to let you know.

Niko is officially one of my favorite characters from your rewrite, though it's hard because all your characters are so well rounded and written that I adore all of them. Niko being gay and representing the occultism and mysticism I grew up with (being from South Asia) really endears me to her! I love her personality, and throughout I had this overwhelming feeling we'd be friends, since my best friend in real life is very like her! I can't express with enough words how much the psychological introspections in these videos mean to me, this story feels genuinely thought through and crafted with a level of care and love you don't often see, especially for female characters. The moment you brought up Strange Aeons I was hoping Niko would turn out to be queer and I had to stop myself from physically cheering out loud when it happened! I could keep screaming forever about how much I absolutely adore both Niko and this video, but I'll contain my word vomit for the moment. This was a lovely video, from story to art to presentation. Thank you for making it and feeding this poor starved asian queer so well!

I just really need to tell you how accurate depiction of an occult person you had made. My friend is occult and she is basically same (if you don't count the sketchbook) like your redesign. I can see you have made a lot of reserch and I'm glad you're not calling these kind of people creepy and call out on Yanderedv's stareotypes. Occult people are not only about demons, they are about atmosphere, auras, bone collecting, long furbies, hella gut shoes and just basically everythin you mentioned. Again, the fact that this is so accurate is hella great!

I really feel like the rivals you meet along the way should shape how you play the game and what your confession/regection would be like, like you can go through the game bashing in rivals heads and burning the evidence, but like the befriend route, you can empathize with the characters, osana can teach you how to be kind to senpai, amai can teach you how to be observant and not overbearing on your partners , oka can teach you how to be sensitive, and support your partner. The list goes on, or you can take it in a different route, osana can teach you that force and guilting people can get you your way, amai can teach you that “bribery”(constantly giving gifts) can guilt others into doing favors and oka can teach you that you can “manipulate” the world around you to scare or convince others. Ayano being a “blank slate” means she can absorb all the experiences and observations she makes an that can determine elimination methods, and how ayano confess to senpai

Hi there, actual Occultist here that found your videos, and firstly I love the redesign! I also wanted to throw in my issues with the original Oka Ruto design; Yandere Dev has made it clear any of the demons or Occult aspects of the game are just extras, non-canon, etc. Mostly because, from what I have gathered, he just doesn't like that stuff. He thinks it silly, and doesn't really entertain it as being real in his story. Which is TERRIBLE. Because he doesnt like something, its effectively just demoted to 'creepy club of weirdos'? There were SO MANY directions he could have taken this. Ever heard of Yasunori Katō? From a 1983 novel, he's as infamous as Dracula in Japanese lore, plus series like Tasogare Otome no Amnesia that showcase supernatural forces in a school environment. Yet instead, he creates this insulting, almost mocking parody of it including Satanism and what HE thinks is 'the dark arts' just so he can create this girl to fit his visual preferences. Honestly he could have taken this so many ways, and he chose a way that's a real slap to the face. Absolute respect to you for all the research you also provided talking about other beliefs, also look up Onmyōdō because I feel that would translate well to Niko Mori's new character ^^

I love this SO much! Each yan sim redesign makes me wanna see this story implemented into it's own game. I love this design so much more than Oka's, especially because it doesn't feel like a gross borderline sexualization of "the weird girl" which seems to be a common theme in yandere dev's characters. Especially with the Oka body pillow and stuff that is widely inappropriate for a HIGH SCHOOL student! BUt either way, your redesign is so amazing and I love the actual research you do that builds into the characters. Your art and seeing the progression also inspires me to continue with learning and experimenting with my own art. Love your vids!!

i was thinking about saiya’s sister and i think i came up with something. obviously we want to go the platonic route, since THIS IS HIS SISTER. however, this could go one of a few ways. i’m gonna call her sister from this point on. in the original game, sister sees yanchan as a rival for senpai’s attention. that could be used in this storyline as well. in this version, there are more valid reasons for her to be clingy. she almost lost her brother when he tried to take his own life. she has brain damage. her father abuses her and the only one that really seems to know or care is her brother. she might think “my brother is super emotionally hurt. i hurt him. he tried to take his life bc of me. he isn’t the same anymore. it’s all my fault. i have to fix it.” obviously she wouldn’t want her life support to leave her ever. so we could go with this but with more character and personality than the main game. also, something i’ve always had a problem with, should yanchan really see his sister as a rival in the first place? i don’t think she should. yeah siblings might sometimes have a say in their sibling’s relationships, but in my experience that doesn’t happen. siblings do not care (unless you’re just that notorious for having a bad personality) and in this version it might even be better to have her be a support. wouldn’t it be kind of funny if sister saw how great of a person himari is. not to mention, sister would be good friends with (this version of osana. i forgot her name 😅). if you befriend (osana gamer girl) then osana might tell sister about you. what if sister wants to set you up with her brother? while she was in the hospital, maybe she tried to read romance novels in her spare time. she might use tacky tricks that actually make you look really bad. especially in front of saiya. it might lower your reputation, and you need to find out how to ask sister to stop without being mean or making her hate you. it would be a difficult rival to beat bc there wouldn’t be a lot of information on someone’s kid sister. maybe you end up figuring out her insecurities. thanks to befriending other rivals, the player would have enough empathy and skill to talk it out and become a big sister figure to sister. she might even follow you around or get in your way sometimes. saiya would get embarrassed, but he would be happy that himari (who at this point he might kind of have a crush on since this is at the end of the game) and his little sister are getting close. she could also change her personality completely from the main game. the trauma sister faces is really awful. she might turn cold and mean. the only light in her life at this point is her protective big brother. she admires him in an unhealthy way. he is her life support. she cannot lose that perfect image of her brother. she might find out how popular he he is at school and how girls at school fall in love with him. she doesn’t want a girlfriend ruining her brother’s perfect image. she saw what happened to her dad. she knows what a woman can do to a man. she knows she could lose her brother if a girl ever breaks his heart. what if he ends up like their dad? what will happen to her? she believes that the best thing to do is separate him from any girls, by any means necessary. himari is the closest girl to saiya at this point. himari is the one who wil “ruin” saiya’s life. now himari is targeted. the player now has to deal with getting stalked and gossiped about. depending on how good the player’s reputation is, this will determine if they succeed or not. i think that at the end of the week, instead of a confession for this rival, saiya finds out about all of the rumors sister has spread about himari. they get into an argument. himari will then get the option to continue or help confront and comfort sister. they have a talk and sister starts crying and spilling out her trauma. she apologizes over and over again. himari sees what happens when obsession becomes toxic. this is the start to her feeling as though she should go back to the hospital. after this interaction, himari helps the siblings make up. sister might see himari as super cool, and she might support the relationship from there. you could also avoid talking to sister after the sibling fight. sayia would be sad, but sister would stop spreading rumors about you. you might be able to win even though the siblings are in a disagreement. however, himari will think that there might have been something she could have done. her mental health will deteriorate and she will have to work harder to conceal her mental illness. that was a lot but what do you guys think the little sister in this narrative will be?

so basically 1) sister is super clingy bc her brother is everything to her 2) she’s silly and clumsy but just wants to help. she also has deep rooted insecurities that make her hard to relate to or handle. she can find comfort in himari. 3) she is cold blooded and obsessed with this perfect idea of her brother that doesn’t really exist. she hides her vulnerability and thanks to himari, she can get better. this shows himari the path she could be going down if she doesn’t get the help she needs. i’m excited for the other rivals and i cant wait to see how their storylines will fit in this new (much more thought out) narrative

I have to say, this is probably my favorite redesign yet. I really love how much though and effort you put in to understanding "occultism" as we would call it in the west. As someone who would be considered an occultist myself, it was so exciting to see you put so much care into making her really feel like a part of the community. And especially how you talked about the cultural differences, and how it's not really seen as abnormal in many other cultures. I really love the fact that she's into vulture culture as well. I’m re watching your series as it’s always great to listen to while I draw. Izumi knowing that their relationship is strictly platonic made me think that maybe Izumi is secretly Bi.
