Hi Rachel, your garden looks very nice. The pots of petunia and lobelia look perfect. Great choice to add drama. Have a great week.

Eye catching presentation is definitely important in your beautiful garden . My mother calls her efforts ‘titivating ‘ or says “ needs window dressing . She has a lovely garden ., with urns to which she likes to add temporary residents . Her climate copes with milky cream nasturtiums , some lovely cranesbill geraniums. , lobelia and lovely blue heartsease . She lifts many of of these from the garden , or buys some cheaply at sales . Rain today at Douentza , but they’ll pep up and be beautiful companions on the first sunny day.

'Titivating' - haven't heard that word for years! Might have to resurrect it ☺️ Your mother sounds like a woman of great style. Thanks for watching and enjoy your week!

I do love soft flouncy plants, as well as strong bright colours. Glad you like them too. Hope you're having a great weekend, Wanda.

Used to keep 2 hanging baskets of MIXED color Bougainvillea (on South facing front porch) Bloomed they're heads off ! so pretty... but those Thorns .. ouch. Attempted to Winter-over / dormant... no luck. Easier to just buy new plants each Spring.

Those Bougainvillea sound sumptuous. But, yikes for the thorns!

Those Lobelia are a beautiful colour. Do you know the variety? Thanks.

Sorry, there was no label on the pack.

I don't see the harm in buying bedding plants as accents. For example, I can buy a pack of Vinca seed for about $7 and I will need only 10 plants from a pack of 50 seed. I end up wasting a lot of seed because germination rates drop rapidly after about 6 months and it only costs me $20 to buy 10 nicely started plants in 3 inch (10 cm) pots. Now, I do sometimes buy seed and start them if I want a specific color palette that isn't for sale, but that definitely costs me more than if I were to just buy the plants in colors that are available.

Yeah, logically I agree with all that, Michael. I didn't say my objection to bedding plants was logical 😅
@michaelmccarthy40774 ай бұрын
@@GardeningatDouentza oh, I fully understand your POV on it and it isn't illogical. You're already starting other seed to plant out so buying bedding plants seems frivolous. TBH, if our landscaping wasn't done by the HOA, I would just direct sow seed so I would always have the colors I want and the plants would be stronger. But, alas, the landscapers would spray the seedlings with herbicide so I can't direct sow.
