Great video mate. It's why I love my domestic work as there's no rush and my aim every job I do is to leave a great finish and progress in my work. I still follow what I learnt in the early stages from your videos and courses and will always be grateful you made them. Keep up the good work

Nice videos buddy, I did a plastering course years ago and I really enjoyed the process, there's a great satisfaction as the wet plaster turns to rock! I don't really do any now but really enjoy your vids and tips, hope life is treating you well and have a great day! Oh yeh, I got some good comments about my work but I started later in life and probably don't have enough physicality to do too much these days but I'd do a small job if it came along but eh, the ceilings! xD

Have you ever plastered external insulation board, I can’t seem to find many videos apart from fitting the boards, it’s a common practice in places like Poland I’ve seen a few houses done here but not that common, but with energy prices going up I think it will be more of a thing, quite interested as to what render to use on the boards

Great video as always, I'm a DIY plasterer, been doing it a fair while and competed a few whole house jobs one thing I really struggle with is plaster building up on the back of the trowel, it means when I trowel out from the corner it leaves a build up on the adjoining wall, any tips? Cheers!
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you pal. Good question! When you bring the trowel with the plaster to the corner you have to be quick and whip it straight to the angle. You start with a wide open trowel which will stop the overspill. Then as you start to apply the plaster you close the trowel closer to the wall as you’re applying the gear. It’s hard to explain but the open trowel at the beginning acts as a barrier which stops the overspill. It’s that’s or you apply the plaster a few inches away from the corner and then come back to fill the inner edge. That works also. Hope that makes sense pal 👍

Fantastic as always buddy. Do you use your speed skim and go over with your trowel immediately after laying on?
@nicklane4714
@nicklane4714 2 жыл бұрын
I do; lay it on not bothering too much about consistency and immediately run the speed skim over it. Very light pressure with the trowel to take out the marks immediately after that. Let it pull in and repeat for the second coat.
@PlasteringForBeginners

Thanks Marcus mate. Yeah…I trowel immediately after Speedskiming. I just find that I get a better finish 👍
@blackesteyes1133

@@PlasteringForBeginners Interesting. I speedskim after second coat, let it pull in a touch, speedskim again then work it with the trowel. I feel if you use the trowel straight after the first speedskim then it kind of defeats the object of using a long flattening tool. With the trowel only being 14" your more likely to get slight waves if you approach it whilst it's on the wetter side.
@MarcusT86
@MarcusT86 2 жыл бұрын
@@PlasteringForBeginners thanks Blaine. My last practice was a disaster. Mixed it way too wet again, so much so it was coming off the hawk straight from being dolloped on. It was basically liquid. On top of that my mixer ground out a load of plastic bits from the monkey bucket on my second coat so there were bits of hard plastic in it. I told myself not to have a go as I was knackered after a night shift. I was almost resigned to having to hire a plasterer and give up. It doesn’t help that my right hand is wrecked from an RSI from work, but I’m seeing a specialist now and might be having steroid injections in it. But I cannot shake the dark art and wanting to do it. So I’m spending summer getting in my fittest shape ever now (just did 10 miles on the bike), and dropping the final 2 stone, which will mean a total 6 stone loss since we first started chatting! Going to give it to the cooler temps of Autumn before having another try, and if it’s shit again, time to call in the pros!
@PlasteringForBeginners

What a nightmare Marcus!! It sounds like you’ve had a tough run my friend…but don’t give up! It’s better to have a firmer mix rather than a wet one and it’s horrible when plastic gets in the mix. It’s a killer. Well done in the weight loss though!! That’s amazing. I remember your posts about training with hammer curls for stamina - respect!! You’re killing it my friend. Keep it up 👍

I’ll be honest, I don’t. I usually mix 2 bags at a time and often work alone which would mean multiple mixes. And it’s the lifting…does my back I’m so I just avoid it to be honest. My Plastering friend loved it but I never got into it. I just scoop it but I do appreciate it’s slower.

I would consider a spot board as a piece of PPE. As a retired RGN, the amount of permanent disability I've seen in former manual handling employees would fill a book. Protect your back or else face a lifetime of crippling pain and permanent disability either before retirement or thereafter.
