Hi mate as you know we have spoke before and I have been plastering for 35 years as you know, Now this goes out to all fellow plasterers, Now have you ever been stitched up on a job where the client will not pay ? take this from an old codger like me you do no more you go down to BP garage fill up a can with diesel go back and say ('ive just got to seal the wall') then paint that diesel over the wall and leave, they cant paint it cant wallpaper it cant artex nothing the only way to solve the problem is to take it all off right back to brick, the diesel soaks back to brick and you are the one laughing not them lol, good job mate keep spreading.

Plastering For Beginners - I’ve finally watched it mate. Some observations and questions! 1) - Why do they prefer to use plasterboard for walls now instead of classic hard wall? 2) - So when it comes to filling out the chases left by the plumber and electrician to conceal pipework and wiring, use bonding coat? 3) - You may have already explained this in another vid but is it possible to do a video on the best cement render mixes and ratios, best mixing method, when to use each mix and ratio, etc? Thanks for the videos mate. Btw, as per my email I sent last week, this Friday is pay day!

Hi mate! It's just a faster way of doing it (and also slightly cheaper), which means it's taking Providence over the traditional way of doing things. Yes mate, Bonding is the one for any chases left behind and I'll try and get a video sorted soon for render mixes. Not a problem about payday - just send and email when you get it sorted my friend. Cheers Marcus, speak soon pal 👍

Hi mate. Great videos. IAM a restoration builder. We do up old properties. I've been using bonding coat for years now as a finish plaster. Great plaster will stick to everything. And gives a nice slightly grainy finish, perfect for older house's. You can get a nice finish with it and speed skim and sponge finish and trowel up with ox flexi. Plus it can go on thick or thin depending on the State of the wall. One coat sponge finish using speed skim is my method. You're thoughts would be grateful. Great vids. Thanks 😊. Rob...

Currently the builders have just used filler behind this which looks ugly. Hi Blaine, great video. A question please. I've knocked 400 to 500mm of old plaster effected by rising damp above the skirting board. I've already pva'd the brickwork with a 1 to 6 mix and then saw for that perhaps you shouldn't apply pva with thistle Hardwall. Will it be OK to go ahead mate? And should I apply a 3 part pva 1 part water mix just before plastering with hardwall. Also if I'm covering with wallpaper, so long as I smooth off well, will I get away without a finishing coat. Finally even though I've applied the 6 to 1 pva should I apply a salt retarding solution before plastering. FYI I have installed a new DPC using safeguard Drirods. Many thanks.

Chuck in a handful of cement in bonding sets it off quicker to plaster.

So how thick and how thin can you put bonding plaster on, and do you have to PVA it before you skim it ? Great video on different plaster.
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
You can get it up to roughly 10mm thickness before it starts sagging - you can get a really thin layer with it too. It's very versatile! I usually PVA before skimming mate, especially if you've left it a day to dry!

We are going to remove old plaster in every rooms. We will inventully see brick walls. Is it better to use cement or hardwall on brick walls for undercoat? Which one is stronger and won't crack after many years?
@PlasteringForBeginners

That's a tough one but I would rather go for BG Hardwall for internal plastering mate. It's slightly easier to use which is probably why i'd use it pal!

Great video What would you use for a smallish patch that needs doing where the plaster had bubbled due to possibly penetrating damp or leak. Would easyfill work on areas up to half meter square. Thanks
@PlasteringForBeginners

The problem is that if you don't fix the problem then it will keep coming through!! The best solution is to solve the damp issue first really.

@@PlasteringForBeginners thanks I believe the issue was thorn plants and ivy growing on the outside up the downpipe. When it rained the water would soak into the wall as didn't run to the ground fast enough (I think) These plants have been removed and the wall was wet behind this area.

Great videos, thanks for doing such a great service! Quick question please. I have some largish patch to plaster where bricks are exposed. I was thinking of doing a sand/cement render then multi finish BG ontop of that rather than using the hardwall plaster? What do you think? Thanks.

So what do you use to patch up where old plaster has come off and revealed the brickwork underneath? Not bonding as it is not for high suction, hardwall? I have a three foot by two foot area where the old tikes pulled off all the plaster when removed.
