I don't have three and a half grand for a radio so, they might as well said it runs on unicorn power.

Instead of seeing it as a replacement for discontinued radios, it's better to see it as an extension of Yaesu's current line of radios that share the same screen interface, from the 101MP.D to the DX10, the 710, and now the FTX-1F. It completes the set, just like the previous monochrome screen series shared the same characteristics. Same way ICOM's line of radios, the 705, 7300, 7610 share the same interface features.

The Yaesu looks nice. The head unit looks FTM-500 but with a bigger screen. Definitely consider it for a mobile unit. Would like it with more power. I thought I read that the Kenwood was just a mock up. So possible a quick throw together just for the Tokyo Ham Fair. Have to wait and see.

The big screen I agree looks really nice!

Re icom sub display, I prefer buttons, but on the up side this will be much better operating in the dark.

I want the 7760. It might be overkill for me but the form factor is perfect for me and the multiple antenna connections. I really like the specs on the new kenwood. Might be able to retire my 5100 to the shack with a hotspot

N type BNC and TNC are all the same just retention method changes. For a small form factor TNC is best but BNC is ubiquitous.

If they put APRS in the Yaesu that would be pretty cool
@AJ9FE5 ай бұрын
It looks like the Kenwood will require separate cable for Mic from the RF deck. As much as I prefer Kenwood APRS, I'll keep my FTM500 so I only need to manage one cat6 cable from the back of the car.

Kenwood are miles behind. They haven't released anything decent for ages. Pretty much their entire range needs a refresh.

It’s impossible to have 1ms latency with wireless links. LAN ethernet traffic is sent straight from point A to B without encrypting the packets. Wireless WPA/PSK protocols encrypt all packets before they are sent to the receiving side. That adds processing on both sides and that ads latency. Its still milliseconds but not 1ms. 20-50ms is more realistic again depending on channel usage and bandwidth.
@HamRadioDX5 ай бұрын
Using carrier grade equipment you can obtain ms and sub-ms latency. How do I know? I've installed them before!
@jolebole-yt5 ай бұрын
@@HamRadioDX yeah. carrier grade is a different game and much more expensive. But the consumer devices have definitely gotten better and better. it all depends on the hardware. I have setup wireless links with Ubiquity and since they were deployed I had no trouble whatsoever. They are used for VOIP traffic and I have no complains about audio delays.

1-20ms is perfectly possible and even normal for my home wifi. I'm talking Device > WAP > Router and back pings. The new 6GHz wifi spectrum has done as well at 750 uS in that scenario. Of course wifi is a shared spectrum so it will be interfered with if you live in the hell that is an apartment.

To be honest, all of these radios are not quite right. (for me). The Yaesu is too low power for a portable - should be 25 watts minimum, with inbuilt tuner (look at the X90 for inspiration Yaesu!), the 200w Icom is mega dollars; try as I might, I can't get the correct Powerball numbers. And the Kenwood is probably just a run of the mill 2m/70cm mobile with a premium price tag. But I guess I'm just a whinging old fart.....

If you find the correct powerball numbers, please let me know!
@jean-marcmartin5315 ай бұрын
You are right, everything is excessively expensive... whereas for less than 400 euros you have an Ic 703+ which is an excellent TX qrp with integrated tuner, a modulation compressor, so yes no color TFT screen, no from C4FM etc but to make the HF loanable QRP for the price of 400 euros or less... you will see it will be 1600 euros excluding options.... but that is just my opinion...

1st - comment sorry I don't see anything new that hasn't been done before. Little disappointed, to be honest.

The reason radio makers use DVI and not HDMI is because DVI port provides video only. HDMI port provides video and audio and because the sound coming out the radio is all mono and its analog, there’s no point in having HDMI port because it will require additional electronics and digital audio converters.
