Mum and Dad honeymooned in Newquay in 1956. They proudly showed me where their Bed and Breakfast was a few years ago. They drove down from Hertfordshire in an old Austin 7! They have photos of them with their board for surfing. They are 89 and 91 yrs old now! They met a family with a little girl who my Dad thought was wonderful. She was named Derin. They loved her name so much, that a year later they named me after her. So Newquay has special meaning to me.

It would appear that the toilet block has changed at least twice since the murder. The current block is quite new. I had, along with my friend, a strange occurence whilst night fishing at the old lifeboat slip area. it was very quiet all evening and we were looking around when we spotted a man walk to the (older) toilet block and walk inside. Not terribly unusual, however, the man never came out! We watched the area for a good hour, but nothing. When we left, we walked to our motorcycles, which were parked by the toilets and decided to just check that the man hadn't had a medical episode. There was nobody there. I am certain we didn't miss anyone exit the toilet block. We always found the area a bit creepy after that, but I had no idea about the murder there until watching your video just now!

She used to live in a hotel called Skiden House where weird things used to happen but she says someone eles in the town was also experiencing weird stuff- the full poltergeist works apparently! If anyone on here had similar experiences, I would love to hear about them.

I was born in 1964 and grew up just outside Newquay. Newquay and Cornwall in general was just fabulous back then. My parents and every neighbour and friends’ parents did B&Bs. We grew up sleeping on Z beds in the kitchen or an outdoor shed from Easter to the end of the season in September because we gave up our property to guests. Newquay is not a place I recognise now, although the beaches haven’t changed much.

Looks like Newquay's morphing into 'Costa Fistralia' with all those monolithic apartment blocks. So pleased Headland Hotel still graces the cliffs with its gentle old world grandeur. What a sad story for that couple & family enjoying the last day of their holiday by the sea. Poor Mrs Hand ~ left sitting in their car wondering where on earth her husband was. The unfortunate Mr Hand would probably have survived today (advances in medicine) to tell his story. Love the photo comparison detective work with the old chimney stack. My questions would be: if robbery were the motive, why would it be necessary to actually terminate a 'frail' 65 year old man rather than just use threats to induce him to hand over his wallet, especially if the money wasn't then found and taken; why take the time and trouble to wrap the stone in newspaper first (certainly implies premediation, but also hasty/opportunistic selection of handy nearby materials); was the wife also treated as a suspect; if she was, did the police search the couple's car and find a copy of the Daily Mail missing its front page containing the possibly inspirational story of another marital dispute gone terribly wrong...

The easiest way to hide is in plain sight, therefore I quite fancy Andrew’s theory that the man in the green shirt was created by the three lads to throw the police off the scent. The three lads never seem to have been suspected and incredibly odd, given how many people were interviewed that no one else seems to have seen the guy in the green shirt. Fascinating and very sad. Will be interested to see if you find a connection to the case in Bude, or whether the murderer left his fingerprints on the front page of the paper in Newquay, so ripped it off in an effort to conceal his identity.❤

July 1958? Yeh, this is going to remain a cold case without a doubt. If there was DNA evidence on the victim's clothing they'd have to employ the services of someone like Parabon to conduct a DNA family tree search. If the perpetrator was 25 as reported he'd be 91 years old now! A bit too late for a prison sentence given the current shortage of prison space. I did read that Dartmoor has facilities for 700 criminals but was closed due to high emissions of Radon gas.Yes, the 3 who found the victim could be culpable in the crime although if they were locals then maybe one of your viewers is related to one or more of them. Did the police do a background check on the 3 to see if they were 'kosher'? An interesting link to the Bude case but surely the authorities would have the husband's name etc from the wife who fortunately survived. Could he account for his movements on the day of the Newquay attack? So many question! Nice video though.
