I am a Master carpenter myself and i love watching how you guys have made this burnt out stone brick slowly come back to life. I will say though that nobody in their right mind would ever bother doing a project like this on a old stone mini castle as it is just so much issues with adaptation and regulations etc. But that is exactly why i love this series. Taking on a completely insane project and just going for it is mostly the dream of any carpenter with enough money, time and friends. Keep up the good work and i cannot wait to follow this project to the end.

Idea for the turret - how to see out of the windows: Build a 30” wide wooden walkway around the perimeter of the room at a height where the stone meets the cinder block. As there is already a ledge that you can extend and support with either 45 degree bracing back to the stone wall beneath or a simple floor joists system. It would maintain the internal height of the turret room while being at a suitable height, while standing, to provide 360 degree view from the sum of the four windows. At 30” wide there appears there will be sufficient headroom to clear the inward slope of the roof. 😎👍

You could install a very narrow winding metal staircase (with railings) along the insides of the tower that lead up to the turret. Then, you could have a narrow walkway around the inside of the turret so people can see out the windows. This will give you access to the beautiful view, it will not interfere with the natural light coming in and it would be an absolutely kicka$$ feature of the château.

Wow, wow, wow! We need your chilly weather here in South Texas❤ Great work, guys! Fabulous, such a fantastic feeling when something that felt almost impossible to create was accomplished with so much hard work. You guys have the brains and brawn. Having g a sense of humour on difficult days or any day, HELPS!

Central Texas here - Just a reminder: Be careful what you wish for!!! Also, a chill factor of low 30's (Fahrenheit) rolling in the next 2 nights!! And then daytime temps swinging wildly up to high 70's each time! But no worries, bcuz by Sunday, we'll be back in the hot 90° weather once again...

In our 100 yr old house we put Velux pivoting windows in the roof. They had blinds between the two panes of glass. When we opened them (even in the rain) it created the most wonderful draw of air from the ground level to the third floor. They would be nice for the turret’s windows

Velux windows in a castle turret? Ok, now I’ve heard it all. I feel sorry for your house having fallen into the hands of obvious barbarics who don’t care about preservation at all.

@ it was an attic with no windows we made bedrooms up there without altering the roof line. It was not a historic preservation. It was a working class money pit home. I stand by my fovour of the pivoting windows adding a form of air ventilation throughout the chateaux. If it makes you feel better I’m sure he can find a more appropriate version of a pivoting window. PS it’s not a castle it’s a chateaux there’s a difference.

@ Ahem, chateau means castle in French.

@ a castle is built with fortifications by a ruler meant to protect the people inside from attack. This has no great hall nor throne room nor is it for royalty. It is a home built for the pleasure of the owner and his family and future generations.

@ Maybe, but in France we just call everything a chateau, be it Le Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne, which has fortifications, or Chateau de Versailles, which has not. Sorry, we French are simple minded people who cannot remember too many words.

I hope the sheeting that you’ve put on the outside of the turret holds together, but it looks amazing. Keep up the good work time is flying by.

Gusaf Eiffel actually built an apartment high up in the Eiffel tower. It's still there... The room at the top of the tower needs to be a bedroom for a princess... What else is a tower for? Dragons entirely optional.

Agree! Not building a floor in the proper height for the windows would be a sin! Those windows will have the most brilliant view of the whole chateau, and in all four directions!

Same here. Only problem is that it gets cold there and this Florida gal would freeze. It was chilly this morning and had to put on my sweater. Tomorrow will have to put the heat on.

An inside gallery round the tower at window level would give you the spectacular views, while maintaining the vastness of the space.
