I did just a quick bit of research and it seems "Julius Mock and Sons" was incorporated in New York State in on February 26, 1954, and it was described in the New York Times in 1986 as a "manufacturer of steel doors". So it's not a general shipyard, but rather a specialist manufacturer, which makes it not surprising that their doors might have made their way to European shipyards.

Hope without a plan is just a wish. You are doing things correctly and you should be proud. As a suggestion, with the extra space in the engine room, you may want to consider having a workshop were tools and other items may be stored as well as where things can be repaired during an extended sail. Daniel I have paused the video at 11 mins to post this as you've drawn a very good layout of the proposed plans but Im struggling mentally to place things with regards to the current floorplan. Could you perhaps produce a new drawing with both the old and new layouts side by side to let us visualise it in terms of bulkhead placement and engine room layout etc it doesn't need to be architecturally perfect, lets just say easy to follow.

I always enjoy reading your comments! Being registered as a pleasure craft we have to comply with the same rules as any other "normal" yacht. We both have a license for pleasure crafts of any size. That's how we operate the boat at the moment. But sailing the open ocean with Flying Coney with up to 12 crew guests is a different thing so we will both get the RYA Master 200GT. That's an official captains license and Barbara will probably also get the commercial endorsement.

Filming within the black hull is quite difficult. We have the same problem that all the racing crews on the carbon fibre open 60s and Volvo ocean racers have. The blue lights help a bit to separate me from the background. We really try to get a good picture. Thank you for seeing it.

This is a great plan! One change I would do is to have an island bed in the owner's cabin. Living in, full time, an island bed is so much more practical!

An island bed is great in the harbor but not so much out sailing. We lived with both and I can totally understand why you prefer an island bed but for us it's not a must have.

Very entertaining video, keep up the work, there is a lot to do. DON'T fall into the trap of planning the layout on the weather deck plan. Particularly in the bow there will be much less room at lower deck level. I helped build a 13m yacht where the owner did the arrangement using the weather deck. I had to re-design the layout much more compact.

Good advice, thank you. We will probably use laser measurements and CAD for the final interior plans. Also the dimensions of the boat makes it easier to fit the interior.

Great project, Love your style. In case you don't know about Skip Novak's Pelagic 77, it has similar dimensions and 12 berths too. MIght give you some ideas. That boat has two identically sized main sails, hence interchangeable - strikes me as a very good idea. Good luck.

Okey, great you got the idea that 3D scanning the ship is a good idea. That will certainly make the CAD stuff a lot more easy. If you had to measure by hand, it would take quite some time, but it could still be done. As long as the format is something you can work with in the CAD program, you should be all good. Of course it needs a benchmark, otherwise you wont know the size of things in the file. Any ideas who you are going to bring for the 3D scan? Will you do it yourselves? I like they layout of the ship, It looks like you wont lose much at all, in fact, i think you will gain a lot by having the old interior removed. I think it will be all good, just be sure you think before you do, but it looks like you got the right ideas now. Everything seems to be well thought over and some sound theory and methods to get things done. :) Good luck! Greetings, Jeff

😊Thanks i did oversleep a bit .I do remember it's a 12 hour difference between us so it is noon here and midnight there I do really like your planes for all your changes .and your future planes on what you want to use Flying Coney for .who knows sometime in the future you may need a cook and general maintenance person on board for one of your races I do have some experience in both areas .

your design of one private room for 2 ,in addition to the group accommodation , allows extended mutual benefit dynamics .It is a bit like cargo ships with a passenger cabin for additional income .Apart from the youths you want to travel with ,you will have the option to dig into the huge cruising market . Lot's of elders and others ,who do have the money and time and interest in cruising ,do not want to join a common cruise ship ,with predominantly elders and pre-organized mass events .The ratio of 2 elders ,or handicapped, with 10 youths and you 2 on board is as well a very good ratio ,that has mutual benefits . Many would even prepay to reserve such an experience . To keep that option ,think of the layout of the cabin to be convertible from 2 comfortable beds to one big bed and easy pathways . Take especially care of the staircase and at least one comfortable safe sitting on deck and try to add one toilet on deck ,when you design the toilets . Since potential customers of this cabin need to have a certain mobility and sense of adventure ,their bathroom can be designated outside of the cabin, even though an on suite bathroom might be better. These special and very well paying customers are likely to be interested in doing jobs as well ,to be really part of an adventure . May you take this into account to create more options and extended mutual benefit dynamics .

I would like to offer a little bit of information. Just because I find your project quite fascinating. That is a very large boat. I'm quite Envious. There is a product called POR15! They pride themselves on complately suffocating rust. I have used this product. In many automotive restorations. If you were to removethe large-scale rust and then clean the surface, you simply paintthe POR15 Over the top of the rust. The product Is a ceramic base paint. Once the product is dried The rust simply ceases all advancing. I personally have used it on automotive bodies and simply left them in a field to purposely. Rust and twelve years later there still is no rust period.

With such a large crew what about food storage and will you have a crew of 2 to cook the chow or are you 2 going to do that ? Is the mid-ship cabin for the cook and helper and the crew cabin will hold 12 ? The engine room might be a good place to have a walk-in freezer and dry good storage and will this be for cold weather sailing as well ?

I have been watching your videos from the beginning and in the beginning you mentioned that you have been racing Nacras. May I ask? I have often been wondering what you're experience with offshore sailing is. And also here where I live any kind of commercial vessel that does chartering needs to have a licensed captain depending on the number of guests and size of the vessel. Are you a licensed captain and on what kind of boats have you worked before?

Flying Coney is a pleasure craft and Barbara and I both have a license to sail with a pleasure craft of any size. Our boat is about the maximum what you can easily register as a pleasure craft. But after all a pleasure craft it is. Since we plan on staying a pleasure craft we can only take friends and crew aboard. So if you're a supporter of the project and of Flying Coney you'll get a chance to sail on the boat. Sail training usually isn't commercial use. It's common that there's still a small charge to cover the operational costs of the boat. German traditional sailing ships are non commercial and they're not allowed to make any profit and that's how they handle it. If you want to sail on them you become part of the crew. That's the legal side of your question. But we do want to get the RYA Master 200GT. Barbara will get the commercial endorsement for it. Since Flying Coney is under 200GT that should cover everything. Barbara served on a 155 meter commercial merchant vessel for over a year both in the engine room and on the bridge. We also did some offshore sailing in the past. Barbara sailed two times in the tall ship races, this year we had this short passage on the sailing ship Jantje. We also got the chance to get some sailing aboard the Belle Amie. Actually I can't wait to get a sailing rig on Flying Coney so that I can nerd out on how to handle it 😂

There is no doubt that it is going to be beautiful when finished, but with all you talked about today, what type of budget, and time frame do you think it's going to cost, and take? |Also just one thing i saw. if you're going to make one room for 12 bed, I don't think I'd have a toilet in the same room. I do like how everything you do you're filming, :)

It's not the same room, it's the same watertight compartment. The cabins will have walls and of course the toilet will have its separate room and a door and ventilation. The boat will be operational for day guests within two years, that means it's possible that we earn the money for the interior rebuild that way. We would love that we have a full income via KZbin at this point. Because it will not be possible to earn money with the boat and make videos at the same time.

When you register the ship as pleasure ship on dutch flag. You can sail with 12 people, only when the loadline is shorter then 12 meter! Please inform very good by the authorities

If you intend to have 12 trainees plus yourselves plus possibly a few 'officers', you will need more toilets and showers.

3 toilets / heads for around 16 people is reasonable for a traditional sailing ship. The Jantje or the Belle Amie both have only two and both can carry more people. It's not a yacht, it's a sailing ship. But it might be a good idea to make a wet head out of the forward toilet to have two showers.
