The amount of time and dedication Puget Systems put to their systems are next to insane level! Not to mention the support afterwards. Plus I also appreciate the tests they do with various CPUs and GPUs that literally a benchmark for creators. Just AWESOME! Thanks for the WIndows key discount btw 😉

I totally agree with the air cooling stance, my workstation is a tool to work on and earn money. Reliability is my number one requirement, if a fan fails it is a 5 minute fix, water cooling is a rabbit hole for wasting time when something goes wrong. AIO benefits for my workloads are so tiny when compared to 24 hour operation and reliability.
@Static-MT
@Static-MT 8 ай бұрын
I agree as well. Water cooling introduces risk into the system. When you need a box to run all day and night on long jobs, consumer grade water cooling is not the way to go IMO.
@nadtz
@nadtz 8 ай бұрын
This exactly. To be fair consumer water cooling is a lot better than it used to be but the difference between consumer and DC water cooling is night and day. I don't see a need to introduce an AIO or water cooling system that I have to worry about when replacing a fan on a cooler is a 5 minute job.

AIO have come a long long way, I use it in 3 out of 4 of my home machines, but the ones I build for clients are all air cooled. Even though I've got AIOs that have lasted over 3 years, there is a much higher chance that an aio fails. And customers would rather have long term reliability for most systems.

I remember when Puget Systems wasn't really that big back in the early 2010's. They've come a long way.

I had Puget Systems build me computer for doing mostly photoshop work that was quiet and they did a fantastic job. Not only is the computer much faster than my Apple tower, it is so much quieter and runs a lot cooler. The Apple Tower sounded like a jet plane when creating jpgs from nef files and would take 40 minutes. My new computer does the same job with very little fan noise and only 12 mins. The Apple tower produced enough heat to heat my office. I now have to have a small oil heater in my office if it is in the negative degrees. They support team is wonderful to work with.

Can I get Windows 10 Pro keys and use them while installing a new Windows 11 Pro copy? If yes, that sounds like a fantastic bargain. Appreciate your response.

I built my own system…which I just configured on their site…it cost me $2,000 to build myself…and it would have cost $5,100 for them…and I get that I’m not “their customer “…because I have time to build myself and actually enjoy it….so the savings of $3,000 makes me feel good….but on another note…even though intel and AMD say you can run these cpus at 95 degrees….i don’t trust them …and lowered my 7900x to 75 degrees in the bios…and only lost a tiny bit of performance according to the benchmarks….

I find it a bit scary that the people complaining about air cooling are the same people "savvy" enough to use liquid. Yet they aren't intelligent enough to understand that normal people just want a system that works and will keep working. Liquid cooler is a big point of failure.

I agree with Matt from Puget, I upgraded to an i9 13900k with 96gb DDR 5 Ram and Quiet PC air cooler and 4070ti. I use it for video editing and gaming, no point in liquid cooling. And yes my old PC is a i7 4790k, where as I did a fresh install for Windows 11 Pro.

I am sort of in the same boat as you but don't really know PC parts like that, so I have been doing research and stumbled upon this video, I am a photographer that is looking to build a new PC that can run lightroom classic effortlessly but also use it for gaming at the same time. Do you have any recommendations or advice? (i am on a 2,000$ budget)

For any photography based PC upgrade. I'd say i7 14th gen. Nvidia 4060/4070. When it comes out. M.2 drives. @@thekid12-k8z

Can the team at Pugent please look at developing benchmarks for Capture One? I'm presuming that they haven't done it as it's to hard for the user base or the API is not really setup for that, so I understand. But I still want it. 😀

reagarding dual socket and high core count single cpus . Density and the licensing cost is really and issue. First of all its crazy expensive to create a bigger server room :) i work with a 3d and vfx studio and if you add up the software and plugin costs you have to pay for 2 or 3 systems instead of 1. a 10k usd cpu basically pays for itself in the first year :)

This fighting 300+W CPUs with biggest AiOs and airflow cases seems to me default, but so strange approach. AiO in the system, noise needed to cool 300W, room heating... Powerlimit e.g. 13900K to PL1=PL2=200W and you will loose ~10% performance in the most multicore workloads. In others, so majority, it will be at best few %. Do these losses really make a difference to somebody? If it's simple thinking of "getting all what you paid for", it just sucks hard to me.

They are a great source of data; however, the prices are outrageous. Institutions can pay those amounts usually; however, the lone or grad student can achieve so much more with less. In addition, Ubuntu as an option is just gross. Go full Debian and not have to worry about upgrade hell I do get it for those just wanting to plug and play. If you are doing AI, you are probably good under the hood.
