Thank god there are so few locks in my area, even from where I am moored there are three directions of travel and the locks are hours way, its all in all about 250 miles of traveling with very few locks. Usually at about 4mph most of the time. If heading to St Ives it's about 8 hours and 3 locks for an example.

Sounds like you really took to the K and A.. We have been on many of the canals and frankly it’s our favourite .. it just has everything .. mind you we like to wild moor so that’s great as visitor moorings are quite often taken and there are not that many. Great vlog
@WidebeamandWellingtons Жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 it’s been really fun so far, ok there’s been some challenges but they just add to the experience 😊 yes we wild moored most of the time as they were taken but again it’s an adventure 😁

I like the barge pole tip - Agree lock 82 is an absolute mare. We’re moored down the river section from you on the other side of Greenham lock on a 60x11. Not sure I could get on with wheel steering.

That was another nice vlog! Yes the K&A looked a nice canal for sure. You both did so well taking Vivere along it. Now back at Newbury, i bet you have been back at work a couple weeks now ! Twiglet running to you at the end was so cute... when was she born Hayley ? Loved her toy duck laying there while she slept. I know i keep saying but she is so adorable. 🐾🐾take care 🙏.

Hi Margaret 👋 it wasn’t without its challenges but it just adds to the adventure! Yes both back at work, boo! 🤣 Twiglet was born on the 25th May, we’re biased but she is adorable 🥰 haha 😂 🐾🐾😘

So after 15 minutes I’ve learnt the lock bricks are slippery, plug a leaky lock with a barge pole, jump off and on to the roof and a dog adapts to life onboard quickly…….mmmm not really great lessons…..and so have given up…..having said that the filming itself is really well done and the soundtrack has been well chosen. I’ve also been corresponding with Collingwood - hope your issues there have been sorted.

Glad to see you made it home safely. My wife Mary is particularly pleased that you now have a cute new puppy. One question: what do you do with your compoost waste? Do you store it? And when you do discard it ,..... where? We are planning to come across the pond and join the cruising community in the near future, and are just now sorting out the details. Love your vlogs. Looking for your next adventure.

Hi Eddy, aww we’re pleased with our new puppy too she’s such a cutie 🥰 The urine can just be poured in bushes and apparently is actually good for some trees 🌲 there are different options for the other, it can be composted or disposed of. There are lots of FAQs on the site we bought it from: www.strumpetandtrollop.com/faqs/ 😁

@@WidebeamandWellingtons how much should we pay for a “pram cover” over the stern of a widebeam ?
@WidebeamandWellingtons4 ай бұрын
Sorry only just seen this, they tend to be anything from £3000-£5000 depending on the design/ construction 😊

@@WidebeamandWellingtons thanks guys - any recommended supplier? By the way loved your video on the reflective film for the portholes - what did you do for the skylight? Hopefully you’ll be around in October and we can buy you lunch for all your assistance. Cheers Swanny

Hi, just a quick question, you say you use a composting loo, now CRT have stopped allowing you to double bag the solids & put them in the bins. How do you get rid of them? Thanks, I enjoy the videos, always wanted to do the K&A.

Hi 👋 it is tricky, we’re lucky enough to have our own refuse and access to an allotment. Obviously we’re not on full time either, would probably be more difficult if we were! 😊

Oh dear, while I was pondering how my Dad would have dealt with those heavy lock gates, since was a farmer over here in the US for 40 years (probably something involving lots of rope and a block & tackle), I think I just accidentally invented an electric-powered steel mooring cable system for canal boats. The best part is that all the equipment already exists--but no one seems to have thought of using it in quite this way before. The worst part is that since all the equipment already exists, I can't patent it. The perils of being a science-fiction writer, I suppose: always thinking up novel (no pun intended) ways to do everyday tasks, LOL!
@WidebeamandWellingtons Жыл бұрын
Oh wow a science fiction writer that’s super cool 🤙 We love Sci-Fi. Could you re-fashion your idea perhaps 🤔 😁

@@WidebeamandWellingtons, why would I not? You're entertaining, fun, and seem like you'd be nice people to know in real life. You have great music on your vlogs, too. I watch a dozen or so canal boat channels on KZbin. The US doesn't have much of anything like your Inland Waterways system, just lakes and rivers, mostly. A few, up North, to be sure, but nothing like those you sail on.
@danhollifield Жыл бұрын
@@WidebeamandWellingtons, what I'll probably do is use the idea in a story. Perhaps some colony world has lots of rivers and inter-connecting canals, and the colonists use boats for transporting goods and people during the early days of the colony before any highways were built. It's an idea. As I said, the thing would use products people can already buy, just in an application no one thought of before.
