Instead of "test," try "audit;" as a former church treasurer, I was required to prepare a yearly report and inform an annual audit; not to 'catch' me in wrongdoing, but to be sure our church ministries were properly supported. Jeff Gray is one of the original and best First Amendment auditors on KZbin, and he does find places that pass his audit.

Love this! ❤️ I grew up Christian but sometimes I'm doubting if I still am because I'm a very critical thinker and doubt a lot of things, for example why one specific religion should be above others. I do still cherish a lot of Jesus's teachings though and I find this KZbin channel and Rev Ed Trevors also very good and inspiring. If we can all just try to be good people, to be kind, loving, caring, generous, thoughtful and genuine, that's what matters most in my opinion.

@@windynight4841 Exactly. It would make it very unfair for people who aren't born into the "right" religion. I believe God's love is bigger than this separation and divisiveness. One day at church, a homeless man came in and sat down.He got some stares and glares. I went over and welcomed him. I was the only one who approached him. He left right after the sermon. During the prayer request I asked for prayers for this man. The next time a homeless man came in to our church, everyone gushed over him. He got offers for coffee, snacks, and food to take with him. How disappointing, and even heartbreaking. I know of a reasonably big church in another state through someone I know. I dont know how thier finances run as in how much is donated from church coffers versus individual's donations; not my place to ask but I suspect the person I know has no clue nor choses to. But after hearing of what i will what call "good works" across the globe for a couple of years, I asked what they did in thier community or local greater geographical region "back home". (Hyperbole about across the globe but missions, organizations, and efforts while worthwhile and transformative not in the US.) I heard a lot of thinner reasons of why its not needed, that thier open church doors offers refuge to people (uhn..?), and so on down the line. My skeptical self could provide some functional dynamics reasons but ... not my church, not my bubble, not my business.

I was able to develop a relationship and get to know him. We are most like Christ when we love or help someone who can't or doesn't help us. We are often unaware of the hurting and the struggling in our communities. Young man was able to complete trade school, got a good job, and was reconciled to his family.

I agree with the Heavenly visitor. In 2017 I met an individual named Joseph in a park in Cape Breton. I was on my way to work and stopped by a duck pond to say my prayers. From behind a clump of trees he came. My first glance and thought was that guy is immaculate. I really thought strange to think that. He came right up to me. Not a crease in his non descript clothing...white tee...jeans...plain sunglasses and a ball cap. He asked me for the one thing I had and that was a cigarette. I gave him the cigarette and he started talking. He never lit the cigarette. His talk began with....when I sleep I dream of 11's. I thought I do too...as my lotto numbers start with 11...he moved on from that to how he dealt with trauma as a child. In my head I was thinking I survived by lots of alone time on a rock but he told me my truth..it was in fields of straw where I created my own safe home. He then started talking about the world wide web and how dangerous it really is. How you do not who you are conversing with...who giving false knowledge. He asked me what I would like to see changed in the world. I stated China quite quickly but I had other fears in my heart. The primary fear was the creature trump. The strangest thing about all this was I was carrying a Roman Catholic St. Joseph medal and as he was talking it started heating up in my pocket. It was actually burning my leg through the material. I was stunned..I was confused and felt why would I be chosen. I left his presence a arrived at work...asked a coworker to touch the medal and it was still hot. From that day until 2021 I saw 11's each time I closed my eyes. Life has taken me on many direction since that meeting. I am a older gay man. I have been created by God and yes...I am loved by Jesus.

There is a belief in most forms of animism that everyone you meet is what you would call “god”. That’s a core tenet of the faith. The passage you cite makes me think Jesus was exposed to the forms of animism practiced by the nomads in his youth.

@almitrahopkins1873
@almitrahopkins1873 8 күн бұрын
@@KingoftheJuice18 Which is in no way whatsoever the same thing as either the original post or my comment. Animism teaches that every animal is god. Every tree is god. Every blade of grass is god. Every rock is god. Everything in the observable universe is god. You cannot separate the creator from the created. They are one and the same by the spirit of creation. That is a binding of the spirit that ties all things together throughout the entirety of creation. I am not some cookie-cutter image of your god. I am your “god”. But the part you Christians seem to struggle with is, so are you. Jesus tried to teach you that. It’s in the non-canonical apocrypha. Men chose to omit those books to protect their power and you have suffered for it. You are neither the rising ape nor the falling angel. You are both. You cannot walk with god, because you have been taught to believe you cannot walk with god. You see sin in the story of the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil in the Garden of Eden, when that was a story of the creator encouraging curiosity. You have been taught that to use the Free Will your creator gifted you is somehow sinful against your creator. The First Man was a manitou without equal. He was a creature unique among all others in that he lacked the animals that made them. Grandfather Coyote convinced the First Man that he was just an animal so he would ask the creator where his mate was. The creator split him right down the middle to make mankind because of the curiosity gifted to mankind by the trickster Coyote. You still have that divine essence within you. It was given to you by the merging of your mother’s and your father’s spirits. All of the other manitou gave gifts to mankind to help them along. Brother Dog gave you loyalty. Sister Cat gave you vanity and cunning. Grandfather Crow burned his feathers black bringing you fire to keep you warm when you were cold. Grandfather Snake keeps the secrets you are not yet ready to know. Grandfather Bear teaches the compassion and healing. Grandfather Wolf taught you to fight every battle like it is your last. Every story has a moral and a purpose. They are all to teach you how to be what you are. You are a god descended from gods. Act like it. My apologies if you were unprepared for the secrets I learned from Grandfather Snake. My time in the wilderness has been extremely educational.

If I could draw, there's a comic I would make. In it, there is a man walking through town. He walks past the billboard with the jewels and the dollars and the fancy dressed fellow proclaiming Jesus. He walks past the park where there's a fellow saying "Repent!" while shaming others. He walks past the protestors, who are so against those who are not like themselves. And then he walks past a business, where out the side door the owner is handing out sandwiches to a hungry family. And he says "There you are, Lord. I've been looking everywhere for you."

Blessed Sunday Rev Ed. I saw this man's video before and it was astounding to me. I wasn't thrilled with the police's response by patronizing the very unChristian people. They told them how he could get in trouble by going into the road to get a donation. I understand that they are supposed to keep the peace but they need to also set an example in doing so. A guy from trump's campaign made a video saying he keeps phoney Hollywood money inhis car to give homeless people so they will get arrested using it. The hate in that person is unacceptable. My son is a director and was making a commercial at our house. They were using that fake money. My husband found the hu dred dollar bill and thought our son dropped it. He put it in his wallet with his hundreds. Thank God above that he didn't go to the store before our son came over again. When he told him he found his money, our son told him that it wasn't real. Then he showed him where it's written on the money. I continue to pray along with working for people to be kinder to one another. Thank you for all you're doing. I come to hear you for strength to keep going. May the Lord blesss and keep you safe.

I left the church at age 12 because of how the other people talked about my mother behind her back - her mother was Native and her father Irish-descent, and she was divorced in the South in the 1960s, and people talked about her as if she was just barely above a prostitute. I told Mom that I wasn't going back to church and why, so she made me go see the pastor... Rev. Spain listened to my reasons and agreed with me. I was told that the following Sunday the sermon was on gossip and slander in the church. These days, I watch how the church acts, and for the most part it violates every commandment of Christ. There are those who claim to be Bible-believing Christians who repudiate those teachings and say that Jesus is "too woke." Apparently, being kind, compassionate, loving and forgiving others - including their enemies, and caring for the sick, poor, oppressed, and forgotten/despised is not their idea of Christianity. I heard one "alpha" dude refer to Jesus as a "simp", as being weak and cowardly - like wtf, dude. Like Mahatma Gandhi, I love Christ but want nothing to do with the church or Christians.

I grew up in a tiny town in Northern California and our church came and went and then it would be back again. On one occasion when I was about 10 I was sitting in a pew waiting for church to commence and a bum walked in the door. The pastor run up to him and chased him out and away. When the pastor walked by me to go to the pulpit I said, "But what if he's an angel." He didn't even bother to look down at me but rushed up and started the service. By and by they passed the plate around and I kept my 10 cents fully intending to go find the bum and give it to him. When the service was over an older lady stood up and said, "Can we please pass the plate again for Linda's angel?" And yes they did pass the plate and the little old lady and her friends drove off to find my angel.

Panhandlers cut into their tithes. I sat outside an affluent Catholic Church with a sign that said “Whatever happened to alms for the poor?” more than once. I didn’t need the help, but I knew plenty who did. That’s the sermon Jesus would give.

I am a non practicing Catholic But there are aspects of my faith that have stayed with me. My autistic son died of cancer almost 17 years ago. There were many times that I felt that there was something bigger than me helping my son through his ordeal. A couple of days before my son passed, he told family members that he saw angels. I don't think that he ever saw a picture of angels. But there was a prayer I taught my boys about guardian angels. The thought that he saw angels before his death has given much peace since then.

God bless and preserve Rev. Ed. First..I am a born again Jesus follower who struggles to be a witness of who I believe He wants me to be in preparation for His Kingdom. In my home state (S.C.) I was a certified school teacher. I grew up in a super conservative (i.e. Jim Crow) denomination that loved everyone who looked, walked, talked, thought like they did...but had little use for those who didn't. Wouldn't care for the poor locally but would gladly give a few dollars for missionaries to Africa. The King James translation of the ancient Scriptures just really would be banned from at least lower grade classrooms if "conservative" Christians" knew what they were talking about. I could go on and Jesus is Lord and the more I hear the more I realize only He can save mankind from ourselves...but it won't be through Southern states public education.

A major blow to my Catholic faith happened when Pope Jean Paul 2 came to America. In one city he was going to visit the authorities removed all homeless people from the streets the Pope was expected to drive down. I think Jesus would have sat down with the homeless people and chatted and ate supper. I didn’t hear anybody in the Catholic Church protest. Interesting that you used the analogy of the “rotten apple”. Phil Zimbardo, of Stanford Prison Experiment, says sometimes it’s the barrel that is bad and sometimes it’s the barrel maker. We need to discern where the rotten is.

I've been watching Honor Your Oath since I ran across one of his videos over a year ago. I am not a christian exactly because of christians like these. I don't believe in god but I believe in being a good and moral man. And I studied the bible years ago when I was looking for faith. I wonder how many of the self-identifying christians have read the same book I did. If they have, they will know what I know, that is, if Jesus Christ were walking the Earth today, he would not spend his time in a beautiful church or an awe inspiring cathedral. He would be out amongst the unhoused in a dirty homeless camp. He would be ministering to the homeless, the mentally ill, and the addicts. The hypocritical church goers might receive similar treatment to the money changers and merchants in the temple courtyard.

At least there was one. That's a victory. We know there's more "good ones" out there. As Fred Rogers always said, "Look for the helpers". A question I have is, was this videographer unknowingly sent out by God to "test" these churches, to expose their hypocrisy and to show there is still kindness in the World?

Lovely story, wonderful sentiment, and nice Biblical reference. The Brotherhood of Man is predicated on the Fatherhood of God. The stranger could be an angel... or they may simply be our brother or sister, not sure it matters. "Love others as I have loved you."

Our community has a fund all the churches contribute to fo a one-time gift to someone who asks a different pastor each month is in charge of the fund checkbook. If you ask for lodging they will pay the motel, diapers they will get them from the store, gas they will fill your tank etc. Recently our church discussed a shower but rejected laundry because church members wash but forget to dry.

The Ancient Greeks believed that beggars who appeared at a festive occasion looking for alms were actually the gods in disguise. So they used to aid and comfort them ! It's an ancient story but one in great need of the telling !

When I finally left my parents' church after coming out as trans, I stood on the other side of the street one Sunday in the most provocative "drag" I could muster, reading Matthew 23 (woes to the scribes and Pharisees) at the top of my voice. They didn't call the cops, but someone did try to come out and talk me down, which of course was just a load of the old false sympathy that would never sincerely acknowledge my complaints. It's probably for the best that I only "pulled that stunt" once, but sometimes I do still wish that I could convey to them how much harm their doctrines caused me, because purity culture theology is still being taught there. I guess it's a better witness to refrain from wrath while I recover, and just prove them wrong by continuing to live the life of faith, in accordance with the measure of faith given to me.

I can't build the right church, but we can. One church I belonged to had many people who served on Sunday and a good amount came from the homeless families and their children we served. They were the hands as others brought the coffee grounds and goodies. We also realized the need for sandwiches on Sunday. I now live far away and miss that congregation who were willing to ask those in need if they would like to help.

That guy would also stand near courthouses and be accosted by police because the...I know you hate the word, but the Karens inside the courthouse would call the police claiming he's panhandling. The thing about calling the police on people for that is, it's calling in a gun. Police are unhinged and will beat, taser, and even unalive you just for flinching in a way they don't like.

I do like Hebrews 13:2, but I think we all know most of the time that it's not an angel. Which is why I tend to go with "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." because as far as I see it every one of those people in that video was given a huge opportunity. They had the chance to serve Jesus. We all fall short. We all need to do better most of the time. Even the man who acted righteously in this video and those of us looking down on the others could do more. I know I don't always treat the people in my life with the love and kindness I would if I knew they were an angel, or if I reminded myself that it was my chance to do something for someone I claim to love and serve.

You know I hate pointing to the Cathar's as being right on this subject, but they kinda were. If you look at Cathars' and Mennonites' thoughts on how the Church should have been structured away from centralized power and money you can see it's less likely to become horrible when money and power are cut out of the deal.

Most churches are false religions, they do not teach true religion that's found in the Bible. Always ask yourself, "What would Jesus do?" "Do not neglect hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2 (NASB) 🙏

its way too dangerous IMO to treat every stranger as if they were sent by God, because odds are they are not an angel and in fact may be a dangerous lunatic and who wants to be raped or killed? The church has to be sensible about how dangerous the world is.

There are KZbinrs who stand on public sidewalks to get a reactions from businesses, churches, etc. They want police called, etc. They are part of the first amendment auditor community Plus you need to remember these people edit their videos to show only what they want us to see. We don't know what happened to get the men of the church to say such things.
