The best I ever saw with me own eyes are Larry Coryell and Robben Ford with his brilliant band, the Blue Line. He's far more than a great guitarist. :)) Right on! I started as a bass player (then guitar), still feel one and have my 1972 Precision, and Will effin' Lee is possibly my favorite Fender bass-player of them all! I adore Robben too, maybe my #1 reference on guitar, but I feel Will plays even closer to perfection with good ole "Uncle Funky", Cornell Dupree; that outfit is incredibly tight and Richard Tee lays it even more churchy-groovy than this. Also: Robben's original bass anchor, Roscoe Beck, is huge too, although less known than Will for not having "played around" as much. He plays extremely tightly in sync with his leader, it's a real joy! :)
