Nigel... The splattering of the airbrush... It is OUR fault... Took me a long time and a friend who actually makes AB's to learn: 4 steps, remember... 4! 1: Press it down, 2: Push it back, 3: (the most important) PULL IT FORWARD, 4: (only then) Release it up. Closing the needle forward before cutting the air, not only avoid the acummulation of a drop of paint on the tip, but also make the tip-cleansing for dry paint much less constant. That said... Took me years to re-train myself to not release the trigger at once... My friend said: "Once you pressed it to start paint, do not release it until you painted what you commited to paint. Deal only in 'back and forth' movements. Only then you close the air." All the best!

Hey Nigel, Those hardware store plastic primers are really hot, they are designed to etch plastic, yard furniture and stuff like that not really intended for models. Probably was a good thing it was old. At least everything turned out nice in the end. Ah the joys of modeling.

I used these primers for years before i had an airbrush. the fact that they etch the plastic is a good thing in many cases.. so many modern primers just sit on the surface and scratch or peel off.

A tip for storing paint tins, whether it be Humbrol or a 4 litre can of automotive paint. Every 6 months just simply turn the tin upside down. Doing this lets the thinners, solids and tinters keep mixing whilst it’s sitting on the shelf.
