Revell Ford 59 Skyliner Finished!!
This has been one of the most fun builds I’ve done in years. It has it’s challenges, but not too many. The four piece body isn’t all that formidable after all. The moving roof and trunk went together a lot easier than expected. The only main problem I had was with the front glass. The chrome trim was malformed over the 45 years it sat in the box, so I had to glue it down in stages. Other than that this kit is kind of a dream. The engineering that went into it’s design tops most of the new kits on the market. Sure there are some details missing, but all in all it’s a great representation of the Skyliner.
I once again must thank Chuck Spoor for sending me my White Whale. His kindness brought my childhood memories back to me. I also what to thank everyone else who followed along. You guys are great.

You did a very job on this classic model! Not only is your two-tone paint job on the car superb, the way you finished the figures also adds a lot. (Gotta love that cap on the driver!) I'm reminded that master modeler Mat Irvine noted that the biggest irony of these old kits was that to get the most out of them would require modern finishing supplies, such as those you mentioned, (panel highlighter, chrome pens, etc.,) as well as wet/dry sandpaper, liquid cement, cyanoacrylate glue, acrylic paints and airbrushes, that most modelers back in the day didn't have. (If memory serves, Mr. Irvine was speaking specifically about the Revell XSL-01 Moon Ship, but it applies to most early plastic model kits.) 93rd like. Thanks for sharing this with us! Here's hoping that Atlantis Models has the tooling, and this iconic kit may make another appearance . . . .

Thank you very much. I sure had fun with this kit. I wish more kits had people with them. You are very right. It does take modern supplies to get the most out of this one. I remember way back when I made this before that you had to glue one thing and let it sit for ever before you could move forward. Now with CA it's only a mater of minutes. And all the other tools and supplies. They sure do allow you to get the most out of the old kits. But also think about all those great details that were molded into this one. There was some very talented people back in the day.

Thank you. Ford did a great job with this car, I just copied the original. I have about fifty pictures of it in my computer. LOL The only thing I did different from the original is I opted for a black trunk instead of the light gray that the original had. I thought it showed off the linkage a lot better.

I just finished the engine. Blue engine, yellow transmission and red valve covers & air filter. Next is the chassis. What I'm having trouble is choosing a color for the car, it's a very beautiful car and ford did some elegant 2-3 tone color combinations, especially with that "chrome crown" running through the side that separates the different colors. I have mostly GM cars, so my first Ford has got to be good. I'm thinking of a yellow, black combination with a white roof. You@@grandpamarkshobbies

Wow! That came out really nice, Mark. For sure one you can be proud of. Beautiful work all around. My dad was a traveling salesman and every other year we'd get a new Ford company car, Fairlanes or Galaxies. Never had a Skyliner, wouldn't be part of the fleet. Interesting using Mod Podge as a glue. I've used it to create ripples on water feathers on model railroad dioramas, but not as a glue. Is it similar to canopy glue in that regard?
@grandpamarkshobbies
@grandpamarkshobbies Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. It must have been fun to play around in a new car every year. I've used Mod Podge for glue for years. It's great. I use the gloss and brush a thin layer where the glass goes, then when that sets up just a bit I take the Mod Podge and kind of push it all around the outside of the glass where it meats the inside of the body. Kind of stitch weld it in. Then I just leave it go over night and it's done. It holds great, and is a little bit flexible so the glass doesn't pop when you try and stretch it over the chassis.
