I'm 37, and this movie used to come on late night programing blocked "Up All Night" on the Channel "USA" These over the top comedies / gross out / low budget horror movies that they would air really defined my sense of humor, and to some extent my own character. Movies like "The Toxic Avenger" "Killer Clowns from Outer Space" and the Revenge of the Nerds trilogy. I'm quite nostalgic for that era.

This was based on a Magazine article about how the once pick on and socially outcast high school nerds were now becoming wealthy with the 80's tech boom and getting the hot chicks while their former tormentors are being left in the dust. The only similarly with the article was the title.

I love that for most of the movie you were like “ok, this is inappropriate but it’s funny because it’s transgressive” but then it gets to THAT scene and you just nope’d right out with “this is the rapeiest thing ever”. Agreed. Crossing some lines for the sake of humor is ok but some things are just big spotlights on how far we’ve come. Cringe. Oh well, put this up there with the blackface scenes in The Jazz Singer and White Christmas. We grow, we move along, but we keep our perspective. My own personal hypocrisy: I can get over the rapey parts, but not the “magic dick” excuse that makes it ‘excusable’ (ie “she enjoyed it and forgave him therefore we can wave our hands to make you forget he raped her”) . Ugh.

It's a fictional movie. The screenwriters were not there to virtue signal, nor is anything bad behavior they write into a movie a reflection of the writer's values or the audience. Fictional characters do bad things, but somehow it's okay for the nerds to get assaulted and terrorized with no "nope'd right out" from you guys, but you all gotta call out THAT, then say look how far we've come.?? You're going backwards if your current screenwriters/authors can't freely write fictional bad things that fictional characters do. Sounds to me like generational pretentious insecurity itrying to bully earlier generations.

Well, yes...these guys r steriotypical 'nerds' with no social skills and no idea how to get a date... BUT I know it would b hard for someone fron today's era to fathom, but a nerd was anyone that, actually studied and did well in their classes in junior or high school... Once u got to university u could admit to being a good student... B4 that it classified u as a geek or nerd... I was partially exempt because I also played baseball, football and hockey and was good at all of it... Therefore I could get invited to events with people I played with... During university I even switched from hockey to a men's rugby league... But I was also an A student in math and the fairly new computer science programs... PC's had just recently been invented and I took to programming and the ability to create 'little worlds and even non-graphical games'... Which if people knew it would have made me shunned... even during high school I had to hide the fact that I was good at math and studied for tests in other subjects...
