I recently created a video titled “I’m no longer collecting high end knives”. I’m done spending stupid money on a traditional knife that can do most of what a $300 plus knife can do. People are broke today and have to save their money. Great video.
@yankee2yankee2162 жыл бұрын
$300+ knives can do just about anything a $25 knife will do, sometimes more… So why would you want to stop collecting them? I myself own about 70 modern pocket knives (no traditional ones, although the new ones also belong to that tradition), with an average price of over $200. The expensive ones are, for the most part, much better than the cheap ones.
@yankee2yankee2162 жыл бұрын
One other thing, although harder to sell, expensive knives hold their value better. Some of the knives I bought 3 years ago, and which have been discontinued, now sell for about 2X as much as I paid. I see great knives that were released 5+ years ago, bringing 3X what they sold for originally. It’s like with cars (except that they don’t rust), the costly ones are well cared for, and their value lasts (and even appreciates, eventually, when they become hard to find), while the cheap ones are abused, and not maintained, and they will never be worth much. Which is not to say there are not quite a few very good cheap knives, but the costly ones are usually better. Surprised? I don’t think so.

One of the slip joints I like the most is the buck 303 cadet (don't call me old, I'm only 20 years old). I like mine because even though it doesn't have a half stop, it has a good sized unsharpened portion that I can choke up on so the main blade can't close on my fingers. Plus if anybody here misses American schrades or old sears craftsman knives, the buck 303 cadet and 301 stockman is still produced in Bucks American factory and they both have textured nylon handles that are almost the same as those 2, plus throw in a few extra bucks and you can get some with wooden handles.

I absolutely love a modern slip joint! These knives are so freaking sweet and easy to carry and keep sharp. Like the guys said not intimidating like other types of kinives and welcome in most countries. Love the video. Keep passing on the good information guys!

Very nice!! A slip joint is a great little knife to carry in mixed company. You never know how someone might react to a full-sized pocket knife. Thanks for checking out the video!

I've recently got into the EDC/knife carry world. I bought a few "modern" knives but have just come back to the slipjoint. I like it because it's non-threathening and it reminds me of my dad and grandpa. Just picked up an old Case amber jigged bone stockman from Ebay that looks exactly like my dad's.

These are huge in the UK since they are legal (unless they are over 3 inches, size doesn't matter though, it's how you use it). Thinking about how the gov has banned a tool that has been around since before modern humans is disturbingly hilarious

Just got my hands on two Gladstone, MI made Marbles slip jonts made by Queen (Parts made by Queen. Put together in Gladstone) and OMG they are a sight to behold. I'm so glad SMKW has brought back Queen to the USA. I'd like to see more options right now though.

Great vid. Something you might like to add if you do a future showcase on slipjoints is that you operate them differently to say lock knives. I'd recommend a Taylor Eye Witness Barlow. For around 30 dollars you will have a knife that will outlast you and with it's heavy pull weight is childproof, if that's what you need. Slipjoints are not to be messed around with by the uninitiated. Thanks.

Thanks for watching! Having a Slip Joint is one of those knives that you don't realize you needed until you have it. Definitely pick one up. Maybe one of the Real Steel Luna Lites?

Case CV knives make my favorite edc for slipjoints. I would say GEC, the Bullnose i had was very good, but price wise, and ease of pull wise, case is good.

I grew up using slip joint knoves, my dad had them, my uncles had them, ganddad had them and i liked them (still do) just fine, then i started using locking blade knives. The one day I went to use a slip joint knife and found myself a little concerned the blade would shut on my fingers. I still use them, but it did give me pause to realize that difference. Now mind you in my life that may have happened only once or twice or when i was doing something with the knife I probably shouldn't have been but still I think about it.
@TheClipPoint3 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! That’s part of the nostalgia of a slip joint. I feel like most people have a story like that. I also believe that a slip joint is the best knife to learn on. Slip joints teach you to respect the tool and give you the concern of potential injury. That’s something a lock blade could never teach!

One of the best slip joints to have is the Spyderco UKPK imo. It is safe to use because of the way they did the jimping. It is one hand opening but still not intimidating in any way. Also the built quality is top notch (as expected from a Golden, Colorado Spyderco knife). I think much of the come back of slip joints comes from people living in countries with more strict knife laws than the US. In most places in Western Europe you cannot carry locking knifes, so slip joints are the way to go.

I think they must be (coming back that is). With all the different laws governing knife possession and carry, and the increases in traveling in modern America, some of us want SOME knives that can pretty well go anywhere, without risking a jail sentence. The truth is, they work fine for most tasks. All those locks and flippers are, strictly speaking, unnecessary for most jobs.
