Some of the most successful and pleasing albums have a LOT of reverb (first Led Zep, first Sabbath, DSOT, The Wall). I love that sound.

Sometimes I like to use low quality reverbs(usually default plugins) if I want a reverb to be really quiet but still "stick out" somewhat in the overall mix, which I suppose could be applied with this technique similarly. As opposed to starting with the premise that you want your verb to blend more so you can afford to turn it up, it can be making it more apparent so that you can turn it down. While still tweaking initially from unity(or close to unity) gain, treating it mostly like any other instrument layering. Also big props for these tutorials, they're all so thorough.

I like your approach. Definitely gonna try this. Got me thinking of guitarists getting so many different pedals; this trick probably works well with hardware too.

Ha ha, well maybe I can help with that when I expand on the subject over at ABI. Definitely more techniques to come that could make them easier to deal with.

Hey man, supernice tutorials, but i have a dilemma with reverb in cubase (me noob) , when i add a reverb i have to set the levels of it from the FX channel fader, but also from the send window i can choose how much reverb i want to have, my question is which fader should i play with to get the right sound? .I usually leave the fader of fx xhannel at 0, and set the right volume of reverb from the send . One more question how do you calculate the right time for decay, and predelay of reverb to make it fit perfect in the mix?..is there a rule or you go by ear? THX

+Andrei Timotin I'm not a Cubase user, but it sounds like you are asking if you should adjust the level of the reverb on the send or on the return. This really depends on if you are using the reverb for multiple sources, in which case you'd be best to adjust on the way to it, otherwise from a work-flow standpoint having it on a channel fader makes for easy access. Keep in mind too that some reverbs can sound nice if pushed harder at the input stage if they model saturation, and then you can adjust your gain on the return channel. In terms of timing, I generally go by ear, but I usually aim for a setting that allows the reverb to dissipate before or just after then next musical event occurs. Too much washy reverb will kill a mix.
